To keep background music playing through a YouTube Live loop, make the loop part of the video, playlist, or media source feeding your encoder. YouTube’s viewer-side Loop control repeats playback for someone watching a video or playlist; it does not control the audio entering your live stream. Preview the incoming feed and confirm the music is audible before going live.
Where the loop needs to happen
A YouTube Live stream sends a creator’s audio and video feed to YouTube through an encoder. The repeated music must therefore be produced in the source or encoder feeding that stream—not by a viewer pressing YouTube’s Loop control.
| Loop type | What it repeats | What it controls |
|---|---|---|
| Viewer playback loop | A published video or playlist | Playback for an individual viewer, not the creator’s incoming live feed. YouTube Help: Loop videos or playlists on YouTube |
| Live-source loop | Content from the creator’s media source, playlist, or encoder | The outgoing live feed. Exact controls depend on the encoder or player used; YouTube’s guidance does not document a product-specific looping menu. YouTube Help: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder |
Set up and test the audio loop
- Choose the source. Decide whether the repeated music is part of a video, a playlist, or a separate audio source in the software producing your stream. Confirm that your chosen encoder or player can repeat that source; consult its current instructions for the exact control.
- Set repetition in the source or encoder. Configure the media to repeat there, rather than relying on YouTube’s viewer-side Loop control. Check that the loop restarts as intended and that the music does not drop out or overlap at the transition.
- Check the outgoing feed in Live Control Room. Before starting the public stream, inspect the preview and confirm that both picture and music arrive. YouTube advises creators to test streams and monitor audio and video quality. YouTube Help: Stream with an encoder
- Monitor after going live. Keep an eye on the stream’s audio and video rather than assuming a successful start means the loop will continue correctly. YouTube recommends checking the event from channel or watch pages and mobile devices as part of testing.
Use music you are allowed to broadcast
Choose music whose license explicitly covers live streaming, the territories where the stream may be viewed, monetization if applicable, and any archived replay. YouTube lists its Audio Library, original music, Creator Music in certain regions, and third-party music with an appropriate license as possible sources. Availability and terms vary; check the actual license rather than relying on a “free” label or a credit in the description. YouTube Help: Use music and sound effects from the Audio Library
YouTube says, “All live streams are scanned for matches to third-party content, including copyrighted content in the form of another live broadcast.” A detected match may cause YouTube to replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt it, or terminate it. Even if you have a license, ask the rights holder whether they must allowlist your channel so the live stream is not interrupted by automated detection. - 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
YouTube’s livestream terms also put responsibility for rights on the provider, including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers, and other royalty participants. A license to use a track in an ordinary video does not necessarily establish permission for continuous live broadcast or replay. YouTube: Livestream terms and conditions
Protect the stream connection
A correctly repeating source cannot compensate for a broken connection between your encoder and YouTube. YouTube recommends keeping upload capacity at least 20% above the total stream bitrate. This is a headroom recommendation, not a guarantee against outages; network disruption can still break a stream. YouTube Help: Troubleshoot your live stream

Troubleshooting music dropouts
| Symptom | Likely area to check | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Music stops when a video ends | The source is not repeating, or the repeat setting applies to viewer playback only. | Enable repetition in the media source, playlist, or encoder feeding the live stream. Test the transition in preview. |
| The encoder preview has no music | The source may not be included or audible in the outgoing feed. | Check the source selection and its audio level in the encoder, then verify audibility in Live Control Room before streaming. |
| Music disappears or the live stream is interrupted after starting | A connection disruption or a third-party-content match may be involved. | Check network stability and bandwidth headroom. Review YouTube’s live copyright guidance; if the music is licensed, ask the rights holder about channel allowlisting. |
| Music plays live but the replay is restricted or problematic | The music permission may not cover the archived replay or relevant territories. | Review the license for replay, territory, and monetization rights before using the track. |
