OBS Replay Buffer is not a continuous-streaming tool: it saves recent footage when you trigger its configured hotkey. To keep an ASMR broadcast running, use YouTube’s live encoder workflow instead. For a live microphone session, connect an encoder to a YouTube stream and monitor it; for prerecorded ASMR, feed the encoder a playback source or playlist. Test the full setup before relying on it, because a running encoder alone does not guarantee uninterrupted streaming.
What Replay Buffer does—and what to use instead
OBS describes Replay Buffer as a way to save recent material on demand after enabling the feature and assigning a save hotkey in OBS’s Hotkeys settings. It does not keep a YouTube livestream running continuously. OBS Studio Overview
For a continuous broadcast, YouTube’s encoder workflow is the relevant route: create or select a live stream, give the encoder YouTube’s server URL and stream key, start the encoder, then check the incoming signal in Live Control Room. YouTube’s encoder guide
Set up and test an encoder-based ASMR stream
- Create or select the broadcast. In YouTube Studio, open the live-stream workflow and create or select the stream you intend to use. In Live Control Room, retrieve the server URL and stream key for that broadcast. Treat the stream key as a credential; do not share it publicly.
- Configure the encoder. Enter the server URL and stream key in the encoder’s streaming settings. Choose resolution, frame rate, and bitrate that your upload connection can sustain. YouTube’s RTMP/RTMPS guidance recommends CBR and a two-second keyframe interval, with keyframes no more than four seconds apart. Use YouTube’s current bitrate table for your chosen resolution and frame rate rather than applying one bitrate to every setup. YouTube’s encoder settings
- Provide the right source. For live ASMR, route the microphone and any other audio hardware you actually use into the encoder. For a prerecorded continuous program, the encoder needs a playback source that feeds it video and audio; a stream key by itself does not create or loop that program. The official pages cited here do not establish a complete OBS playlist-loop recipe or guarantee unattended restarts, so verify playback and recovery behavior in your chosen setup before leaving it unattended.
- Run a representative test. Start the encoder before the intended broadcast and inspect the incoming preview in Live Control Room. Test with audio and movement similar to the real session. For ASMR, include quiet passages and transitions as well as the actual microphone chain; this applies YouTube’s representative-test guidance to the low-level audio and scene changes common in ASMR. Listen for noise, clipping, dropouts, and abrupt level changes.
- Check local recording and the stream. If preserving a local copy matters, confirm that the recording file exists and continues to grow during the test. Monitor audio and video quality continuously, including after any scene or source change. YouTube recommends leaving about 20% upload-bandwidth headroom; a connection that barely meets the encoder’s bitrate target has little room for fluctuations. YouTube streaming tips
- Go live only after the preview is healthy. Follow the Live Control Room prompt to start the public broadcast after the encoder signal appears and the preview looks and sounds right. Keep monitoring the encoder and YouTube’s stream health rather than assuming that a successful initial connection will last for the entire session.
Choose the stream format around the outcome you need
“Continuous” can mean an uninterrupted public broadcast, an archived video viewers can replay later, or a live stream with DVR rewind. Those are separate outcomes, and YouTube’s limits make it important to choose deliberately.

Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Public continuity: Keep the encoder, source, computer, and network operating for the whole session. The cited YouTube guidance explains connection and monitoring, but does not establish that a particular encoder or playlist source will recover automatically after every interruption.
- Archive: YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume that a much longer broadcast will produce a complete, usable archive; confirm the platform’s current guidance and decide whether separate recordings or shorter broadcasts better meet your preservation needs. YouTube’s encoder guide
- Viewer rewind: DVR may be limited or unavailable on very long streams, particularly beyond 12 hours. If rewind is essential, check the behavior for the planned stream length instead of treating an always-on broadcast as equivalent to a normal VOD. YouTube’s DVR guide
RTMP or HLS: choose for compatibility, not as a continuity fix
YouTube documents both RTMP-family encoder guidance and HLS for supported cases. HLS is not inherently a lower-latency substitute: YouTube says it has higher latency than RTMP because video is sent in segments. Its HLS requirements include TS format, a rolling playlist, and segment durations of 1–4 seconds. Use HLS only when your encoder and use case meet YouTube’s requirements; changing protocol will not repair a failing source, unstable upload, or interrupted encoder. YouTube’s HLS setup guide
Copyright and reused-content checks for prerecorded ASMR
Before looping recorded material, confirm you have the rights to every audio and video element, including music, ambient recordings, samples, and visuals. Permission to use a track in one context does not necessarily cover rebroadcasting it in a continuous stream. YouTube’s copyright and monetization rules can change, so review the platform’s current requirements and use material you own or are authorized to stream. Repeating or compiling material also does not by itself establish that a channel meets YouTube’s monetization policies; assess the channel and content against YouTube’s current reused-content rules. These are distinct questions from whether the encoder successfully sends a signal.

Troubleshoot the common failure points
- No signal in Live Control Room: Check that the encoder uses the server URL and stream key for the selected broadcast, then confirm that the encoder is actually sending. If the key was exposed, replace it in YouTube and update the encoder.
- Video arrives but ASMR audio is missing or too quiet: Check the selected input device, routing, mute state, and levels in the encoder and source. Test with the same microphone chain and quiet sections intended for the live session; a brief loud sound can conceal a level problem that makes soft passages inaudible.
- Stuttering or unstable quality: Check the encoder’s bitrate against YouTube’s current resolution-and-frame-rate guidance and verify that the upload connection has the recommended headroom. Reduce the stream’s demand if the connection cannot sustain it, then test again.
- Prerecorded playback stops: Determine whether the playback source ended, lost its file, or stopped feeding the encoder. The official guidance cited here does not specify a universal loop or automatic-restart setting; test the exact source and restart behavior you plan to use.
- The broadcast drops: Check the encoder, computer, source, and network separately to identify what stopped. YouTube’s encoder workflow requires an active encoder signal; do not assume the stream will resume without checking the encoder’s behavior and Live Control Room.
- Archive or rewind is missing: Check the broadcast duration and YouTube’s archive/DVR limits. Streams over 12 hours are not covered by the automatic-archive assurance for streams under 12 hours, and DVR may be limited on very long streams.
