How to Keep a YouTube Channel Live 24/7 With Pre-Recorded Videos

A 24/7 YouTube broadcast needs an encoder to play your recordings and send a continuous feed. Here’s how to set it up, test it and handle rights, stream health and replay limits.

You can keep a YouTube channel live around the clock by sending YouTube a continuous feed from an encoder that plays pre-recorded videos. The encoder can run on a computer you keep online, or in the cloud. YouTube does not provide a native “loop forever” switch for a live broadcast: the playlist playback and continuous feed come from the encoder workflow.

Before you start: check whether the channel can go live

YouTube says live streaming must be enabled, the channel must be verified, it must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days, and the creator must be at least 16 years old. Check the current eligibility requirements in YouTube’s live-streaming help before setting up the encoder.

Choose where the encoder will run

You need an encoder to play your recordings and send a live video feed to YouTube. You can run it locally on a computer or use a hosted cloud service. These are practical differences to consider, not a claim that one approach is inherently more reliable.

Consideration Local encoder Hosted cloud encoder
What stays online The computer running the encoder and its internet connection. The service handles the feed remotely; your home computer does not need to stay on.
Files and playlists Playback uses files available to the computer and encoder. Configure the playlist to repeat or advance as intended. Files are uploaded to the service, which plays them as a feed.
Monitoring Monitor encoder playback, connection and YouTube stream health. Check the provider’s playlist, playback and reconnect controls as well as YouTube stream health.
Recording and backup You can arrange a local recording, but verify that it is actually being saved and has enough storage. Confirm what recording or backup options the service offers; they vary by provider.
Cost and dependencies Account for the computer’s use, internet connection and storage. Account for the service fee, uploaded-file storage and dependence on the provider.

Prepare videos and confirm broadcast rights

Use video and audio you own or are authorized to broadcast. Organize the files into a playlist and decide whether it should repeat or move through the recordings once. Test the sequence before launching: a playlist that reaches its end, encounters an unavailable file or pauses unexpectedly can interrupt the intended programming.

YouTube scans live streams for matches to third-party content. If it identifies a match, it may replace the feed with a placeholder; if the material remains, it can interrupt or terminate the broadcast. A license does not necessarily prevent an interruption: YouTube says the rights owner should add your channel to its Content ID allowlist when you have licensed the content. See YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance.

Set up a continuous broadcast with a local encoder

  1. Install and configure encoder software. Choose software that can play your recordings in a playlist and send a continuous live feed. Keep the computer powered on, prevent it from sleeping, and ensure its internet connection remains available for the duration.
  2. Create or schedule the broadcast. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or schedule a stream. YouTube treats the incoming encoder feed and the viewer-facing broadcast as separate resources; creating the broadcast does not itself provide the video.
  3. Connect the encoder. Copy the stream URL and stream key from the broadcast’s encoder settings into the corresponding fields in your encoder. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or share it. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
  4. Set video and audio output. YouTube’s encoder guidance supports RTMP or RTMPS; H.264, H.265 or AV1 video; AAC or MP3 audio; and frame rates up to 60 fps. Use constant bitrate encoding and a two-second keyframe interval where your encoder allows it; YouTube says the interval should not exceed four seconds. Select the bitrate from YouTube’s current table for your resolution, frame rate and codec rather than relying on a single bitrate for every stream. Prefer RTMPS, which encrypts the feed in transit. See YouTube’s recommended encoder settings.
  5. Load the playlist and test it. Confirm the intended order and repeat/advance behavior. Send a representative feed before launch; check that the preview has picture, motion and sound, and that the stream status is active. YouTube recommends testing audio and motion and watching stream health.
  6. Make the broadcast live. Once the encoder feed and preview are correct, transition the broadcast to live in the Live Control Room. Keep the encoder running and check periodically for disconnects, health warnings, playback faults and copyright notices.

Use a cloud service instead of leaving a computer on

A hosted encoder can play uploaded recordings and send the feed remotely. You still create the YouTube broadcast, connect its stream key as the service directs, and check the preview and stream health before going public. Compare services by playlist controls, uploaded-file storage, reconnect handling, monitoring, backup options and ongoing cost; these features and terms vary, so check the provider’s current details.

Or let it run in the cloud with StreamNeo

StreamNeo is a cloud service for keeping a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos. The setup is: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, then go live. It loops the uploaded videos from the cloud, so nothing has to stay running at home. Each slot streams the uploaded file as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; there are no quality tiers or re-encoding. StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, with one free day per account. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo, or start the free day.

Monitor playback, stream health and policy notices

A continuous stream needs ongoing checks even after a successful launch. Look for encoder disconnections, unexpected playlist stops, missing or silent audio, and YouTube stream-health warnings. YouTube can also interrupt or terminate a live feed when it detects third-party content. A service or encoder may offer reconnect behavior, but do not assume it eliminates the need to check the broadcast.

Plan separately for archives and viewer rewind

YouTube says it can automatically archive live streams shorter than 12 hours, but a longer stream may not be captured at all. Its help page recommends keeping a local archive backup. If a complete replay matters, make an independent recording or plan shorter broadcasts rather than relying on one uninterrupted 24/7 stream to produce a complete YouTube archive. Details are in YouTube’s live-stream archiving guidance.

DVR rewind is also limited or unavailable on very long streams. Do not promise viewers they can rewind the full history of a continuous broadcast; check the current YouTube DVR guidance and tell viewers what replay access to expect.

Understand monetization limits for repetitive programming

YouTube’s monetization policies apply to live streams. Its policy says monetized content should be original and authentic rather than mass-produced, generic or repetitive. On July 15, 2025, YouTube clarified that it renamed “repetitious content” as “inauthentic content”; that clarification does not establish that any particular continuous stream will qualify or fail. Make programming materially useful or varied, and do not assume that using a live format makes it eligible for monetization. Read YouTube’s channel monetization policies.

Troubleshoot common 24/7 stream problems

  • The broadcast is live but shows no picture: Check that the encoder is sending to the stream URL shown for the correct broadcast, that the stream key matches, and that the encoder is actually playing a file.
  • The preview appears, but the broadcast will not transition to live: Confirm the feed is active in the Live Control Room, then use the broadcast controls to go live. The incoming encoder stream and the public broadcast are distinct.
  • The feed disconnects: Check the local computer’s power and internet connection if encoding locally, or the provider’s connection and playback status if hosted. Review YouTube stream health and reconnect the encoder if needed.
  • The playlist stops or repeats incorrectly: Check its order, repeat/advance setting and whether every referenced file is accessible. Test a full playlist cycle before relying on it continuously.
  • Video stutters or stream health is poor: Compare the encoder’s chosen bitrate with YouTube’s recommendation for the selected resolution, frame rate and codec. Check connection stability and use constant bitrate encoding with a two-second keyframe interval where possible, never exceeding four seconds.
  • Audio is missing or mismatched: Check the encoder’s audio input and supported AAC or MP3 output, then test sound in the preview before the public launch.
  • YouTube replaces or stops the feed: Review copyright notices and remove or resolve the matched material. If you have a license, ask the rights owner about adding your channel to its Content ID allowlist; a license alone may not prevent the live interruption.
  • No complete replay appears: Streams longer than 12 hours may not be archived. Use an independent recording or shorter broadcasts if a complete replay is necessary.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I stream just one pre-recorded video as a YouTube live stream?

Yes, if an encoder plays it and sends the resulting live feed to YouTube. The encoder—not a YouTube loop-forever setting—provides the playback.
