How to Keep a StreamYard YouTube Stream Running While Your Browser Is Closed

StreamYard’s standard live setup does not say whether a live show continues after browser closure. Learn when to use its automatic pre-recorded workflow instead.

It depends on what you mean by “stream.” For a standard StreamYard live studio show, scheduling only creates an announcement; you still enter the studio and click Go Live. StreamYard’s documented setup does not say whether an already-live studio broadcast continues after you close the browser, so don’t assume that it will. If you need a broadcast to start while you’re offline, use StreamYard’s scheduled pre-recorded streaming workflow instead.

Choose the workflow that matches your broadcast

Workflow How it starts What happens while it runs What is established about closing the browser
Standard live studio show You enter the StreamYard studio and click Go Live. Scheduling the show alone does not start it. The show is controlled through the studio. StreamYard’s documented setup does not specify what happens to an already-live broadcast if you close the browser. It is not safe to promise that it will keep running.
Scheduled pre-recorded video You schedule a video for a selected time; it starts automatically, even if you are offline. It plays without live studio control of overlays and media assets, and ends when the video finishes. The workflow is specifically described as starting while you are offline. It does not provide the same studio controls as a live show.

These are different workflows, not two ways to schedule the same kind of broadcast. StreamYard says in its How to Create a Live Stream guide that a standard scheduled live show still requires the host to enter the studio and click Go Live. Its Pre-recorded Streaming guide says a scheduled video starts at the selected time even if the host is not online, then ends when the video is finished.

If you need an interactive live studio show

Keep the StreamYard studio available for the broadcast rather than closing its browser on the assumption that the stream will continue. The documented workflow establishes how a standard show starts, but it does not settle the browser-close question once the show is live.

  1. Check the YouTube destination. Confirm that StreamYard is connected to the channel you intend to use.
  2. Confirm live-stream eligibility. YouTube restrictions can affect whether the channel can go live. StreamYard’s Connect a YouTube Channel guide describes channel access requirements and notes that YouTube has additional live-streaming restrictions.
  3. Enter the StreamYard studio and start the show. Scheduling a standard broadcast creates an announcement; it does not replace entering the studio and clicking Go Live.
  4. Do not treat browser closure as a supported way to leave the show running. The cited standard-live instructions do not establish the result of closing the browser after going live. If staying online in the studio is not workable, choose a workflow designed to run without you online.

If the video can be recorded in advance

Use StreamYard’s pre-recorded streaming feature when the content does not need live studio interaction. In its Help Center guide, StreamYard states: “Once scheduled, the video will go live at the selected time—even if you’re not online to start the broadcast.”

Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
  1. Prepare the recording. Use the video you want to broadcast; this workflow plays a pre-recorded video rather than letting you operate a live studio show.
  2. Schedule it through StreamYard’s pre-recorded video workflow. Choose the time at which it should start. The documented behavior is automatic start at that selected time, including when you are offline.
  3. Plan around its controls and ending. While the video runs, it is not controlled from a live studio, so you do not have the same live control of overlays and media assets. The broadcast ends when the video finishes.

For YouTube, verify that the correct channel is connected and that it is eligible to livestream. StreamYard says channel owners and Brand-account managers or owners can connect a channel, while YouTube’s own live-streaming restrictions may also apply.

Using an existing YouTube live stream with StreamYard

StreamYard also documents connecting an existing YouTube-created stream using RTMP details. This is not an automatic offline-start workaround: the cited guide says this feature is on paid plans and still requires you to enter the StreamYard studio and click Go Live. It also says YouTube comments will not appear in the StreamYard studio for this setup. See Connect an existing YouTube Live Stream for the documented arrangement.

Common points of confusion

  • “I scheduled it, so why didn’t the standard show start?” A standard scheduled live show creates an announcement; you still need to enter the studio and click Go Live.
  • “Will my live studio broadcast definitely stop when I close the browser?” The cited standard-live guide does not specify that outcome. It also does not establish that the show will continue, so don’t rely on either assumption.
  • “Can I use a pre-recorded schedule for an interactive show?” Not with the same live studio control: StreamYard says the pre-recorded video runs without studio control of overlays and media assets.
  • “I can’t connect or start the YouTube broadcast.” Check that the intended channel is connected, that you have the required channel access, and that the channel meets YouTube’s live-streaming conditions.
