For a household watching a live playlist, you need power for the router and any separate fiber terminal, an active internet connection, and power for the playback device. If you mean broadcasting a 4K 60fps playlist from your own channel, you also need a stable upload connection and a powered encoder; YouTube’s recommended encoder bitrates are 35 Mbps for AV1 or H.265 and 50 Mbps for H.264.
First, clarify what needs to stay running
“Keep a YouTube Live playlist running” can mean watching an existing live stream during a power cut or keeping your own channel’s broadcast online. The household power checklist below is aimed at viewers, because load shedding can switch off the equipment used to watch. Creator-side 4K60 settings are covered separately.
- Watching: Keep the broadband equipment and playback device powered, and confirm that the ISP connection remains available during the outage.
- Broadcasting: Keep the encoder and network equipment powered, and provide YouTube with a reliable upload connection. A router UPS by itself does not keep the complete broadcast online.
Keep a household YouTube stream available during an outage
1. Identify every device that needs power
Check whether your broadband setup has a separate ONT or fiber terminal as well as a Wi-Fi router. Both may need power. The TV, computer, phone, streaming stick, or set-top box used to play YouTube also needs power; a small router UPS is not evidence that those devices can run from it.
2. Match a mini UPS to the equipment
Read the power adapter label for each device you want to back up. Before buying, confirm the UPS output voltage, supported current, plug size and polarity, and whether it has enough outputs to power the required router and ONT together. A compatibility claim for one 12V router does not establish compatibility with a different model or with a fiber terminal.

- Ambrane describes its PowerVolt as a 12V router UPS for devices rated at 2A or less and advertises up to five hours of backup. That is a manufacturer claim, not a guaranteed runtime for your setup. See Ambrane’s PowerVolt page.
- Champion lists 12V output up to 2A for the UPS1224D and describes an average battery life of four hours. This is also a manufacturer claim. See Champion’s UPS1224D page.
These product examples are not universal recommendations. Runtime depends on the connected load and other conditions; check the maker’s specifications and test your actual devices before relying on a backup estimate.
3. Check the ISP connection and the playback device
A powered router does not prove that the internet service is still available. Ask your provider whether its equipment and service in your locality remain active during a local power cut; availability can vary by provider and neighborhood. If considering mobile data as an alternate connection, account for local coverage, congestion, data limits, and the power needed for the phone or hotspot. No particular carrier or locality can be assumed to remain connected.

Keep the display and playback device powered as well. If your router and ONT stay on but the TV or streaming device loses power, YouTube playback still stops. A router mini UPS is a targeted way to power compatible networking equipment, not a complete household backup system.
For creators: YouTube’s 4K 60fps live settings
If you are sending a playlist or other video to YouTube Live, the encoder-to-YouTube upload settings differ from a viewer’s download requirements. YouTube’s published guidance lists these recommended and minimum bitrates for 4K (2160p) at 60 fps:

These figures concern the stream sent from the creator’s encoder to YouTube; they are not a target for the viewer’s download speed. Choose settings your upload connection can sustain reliably. YouTube recommends testing with representative movement and audio before going live, monitoring stream health during the event, and reviewing any messages shown by the live control room. Latency and ingestion protocol
YouTube says 4K streams do not offer its low-latency option and are set to normal latency. Its HLS ingestion documentation supports H.264 and HEVC and frame rates up to 60 fps; it says HEVC generally provides 25% to 50% more data compression than H.264 at similar quality. HLS is segment-based and usually has higher latency than RTMP or WebRTC. YouTube’s protocol comparison likewise describes HLS and DASH as supporting advanced codecs and high-resolution streaming with higher latency. These are tradeoffs, not guarantees of fewer dropouts or continuous service. No codec or protocol can compensate for a power cut, weak upload, ISP failure, or YouTube-side interruption. Keep a creator-side stream running through load shedding
A creator needs backup power for the encoder (such as a computer), router, and any separate ONT or modem, plus an internet connection that remains usable. A router UPS can address only compatible networking equipment; it does not power a computer or establish that the ISP remains online. Test the complete setup before relying on it for a scheduled stream, and monitor YouTube’s stream-health messages while live.
