To keep a 24/7 Indian music stream running through a power cut, protect every part of the setup that must operate: the playback computer or encoder, modem and router, and any locally originating music or video source. A router-only UPS cannot keep a computer-based stream online. For prerecorded music and visuals, cloud playout can remove the home computer from the playback chain; for a live performance or camera feed, the source still needs power where it is.
First identify what is producing the stream
The right continuity plan depends on whether your YouTube broadcast is prerecorded or live. YouTube’s encoder workflow requires a working encoder connection and stream key, plus outbound internet; YouTube recommends testing before broadcasting and monitoring stream health (YouTube encoder setup; YouTube encoder requirements).
- Prerecorded playlist on a home PC: A power cut can stop the computer, encoder, modem and router. Back up the equipment needed to play, encode and transmit.
- Prerecorded playlist hosted by a cloud service: The home computer may not be the playback origin. For example, Upstream describes cloud playlist playout from its servers while the creator’s computer is off; that is a vendor description, not independent testing (Upstream).
- Live performance, camera or other local feed: The source, encoder and networking equipment all need power. A UPS cannot keep an unpowered performer or camera feed available.
For Indian music channels—including bhajans, kirtan, Gurbani or other recordings—continuity does not replace permission to broadcast the music and visuals. Confirm that you have the necessary rights for the material and the way you intend to use it on YouTube.
Choose a continuity approach
| Setup | What a home power cut affects | Practical approach | What it cannot solve |
|---|---|---|---|
| Prerecorded playlist encoded on a home PC | The PC or encoder and local networking gear | Use a UPS sized for the combined load and desired runtime; configure and test restart and stream recovery. | Runtime depends on the UPS model and actual load. A local UPS does not restore an ISP outage or YouTube service problem. |
| Prerecorded playlist on cloud playout | The home computer need not be the playback origin, according to the service’s description. | Consider cloud playout and test the YouTube connection and event workflow before relying on it. | Service availability, account access, platform behavior, rights and cost still matter. |
| Live performance or locally originating feed | The source, encoder and networking equipment | Back up every required local device and test recovery; consider independent backup connectivity where feasible. | Local backup cannot keep an unpowered source running or fix an ISP-side fault. |
Decide based on source type, how long you need to bridge an outage, the equipment’s combined power draw, the UPS runtime at that load, restart behavior, internet resilience and whether hosted playback is suitable. The reviewed manufacturer and platform materials do not establish one universally appropriate UPS model or runtime.

Set up a local stream to recover after a power cut
1. Put the entire required chain on battery-backed power
For a PC-based prerecorded stream, include the computer or encoder and the modem/router—not just the router. For a live local feed, include the source equipment as well. Check the UPS manual for its battery-backed outlet locations and runtime information, and compare runtime at the load you actually expect. Schneider Electric’s UPS guidance explains the importance of matching a UPS to the connected equipment; it does not provide a universal runtime for a streaming PC (Schneider Electric UPS guide).
Estimate the combined draw of the devices that must stay on, then use the manufacturer’s model-specific runtime data for that load. Battery age, connected equipment and the UPS model affect the result; do not assume a runtime based only on a product’s headline capacity.

2. Check YouTube and encoder settings before an outage
- In YouTube Studio, open the scheduled stream or create a stream in Live Control Room, then use the encoder setup details shown there. YouTube’s stream settings describe the stream key as the credential/address the encoder uses to send the feed. A custom stream key can be reused when appropriate (YouTube stream settings).
- In the encoder, enter the YouTube server URL and stream key. YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends RTMPS; follow the current setup details shown for your stream (YouTube encoder setup).
- Test the complete setup before relying on it: start the encoder, verify that YouTube receives data, and monitor the stream health indicator in Live Control Room. YouTube documents encoder requirements, but settings depend on your encoder and stream configuration; do not use an unverified bitrate or resolution as a universal rule (YouTube encoder requirements).
3. Configure restart behavior and test the real recovery path
After a brief power interruption, some equipment may not restart in the state it was in before the outage. Check the computer’s power and startup behavior, confirm the encoder opens or can be restarted, and verify that the playlist or source is ready. YouTube’s Auto-start and Auto-stop are stream controls, not backup power or internet services. Reusing stream settings may copy those choices, so review the controls for the workflow you use (YouTube stream settings).
Test by following your actual interruption-and-restart procedure while monitoring Live Control Room. Do not assume that a UPS, computer restart or Auto-start setting by itself guarantees the broadcast will resume.

Recover the broadcast after power returns
Work through the chain from power to YouTube. YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance points creators to check the encoder, stream configuration and connection when a stream is not working (YouTube stream troubleshooting).
- Check power: Confirm that the UPS is on, its battery-backed outlets supplied power, and the computer, modem and router have restarted.
- Check internet service: Confirm the modem/router has an active internet connection. A powered router or working local network does not prove that the ISP link is available; test outbound connectivity from the encoder location.
- Check the encoder: Confirm that it is running and sending data. If it reports a connection or start error, inspect its software and configuration, current system load and the YouTube stream key.
- Check YouTube: Open Live Control Room and inspect the health indicator. After the encoder resumes sending, confirm the public watch page is behaving as expected.
- Escalate the fault to the right provider: If the local devices and encoder are healthy but outbound internet is unavailable, contact your ISP. A local UPS cannot fix an ISP-side outage or a YouTube service issue.
Common problems and what to check
| Symptom | Likely area to check | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| The router is on, but the stream is offline. | The computer or encoder may have lost power, or the modem/router may not have an active ISP connection. | Check that the encoder restarted and test outbound internet from its location. |
| The encoder is open but YouTube receives no data. | Encoder connection settings, server URL, stream key or outbound connectivity. | Review the current YouTube encoder details and key, then check the internet connection. |
| The encoder reports a start or connection error after reboot. | Software/configuration, stream key, system load or internet connection. | Inspect encoder status and configuration, verify the key, and check connectivity. |
| The UPS ran out before power returned. | The connected load exceeded the runtime needed, or the selected UPS was not suited to the load. | Reassess combined device draw and compare manufacturer runtime data for the required duration. |
| YouTube stream controls are enabled, but equipment is off. | Auto-start and Auto-stop control stream behavior; they do not power equipment or provide internet. | Restore power and connectivity to the required chain, then confirm encoder and Live Control Room status. |
Keep prerecorded playback running in the cloud
If your channel plays uploaded recordings rather than a live camera or performance, a cloud playout service can move playback off the home PC. StreamNeo is a YouTube-only cloud service for uploaded videos: you upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once and go live. Its cloud continues looping the uploaded material with your computer off, so a home power cut does not stop the local playback computer from being the source—because it is not the source.

- Upload your recording or build a playlist.
- Add your YouTube stream key.
- Go live; StreamNeo loops the uploaded content from the cloud.
There is nothing that has to stay powered on at home for cloud playback. StreamNeo plays the video as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; it automatically tries to recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card required. Monthly service is $9.99 per month. Cloud playout does not remove the need for a working YouTube connection, account access or appropriate music rights. See StreamNeo and its plans, or check your music and video rights. Start your free first day on StreamNeo.
Keep the music rights and recording expectations clear
Power continuity is separate from copyright permission. Make sure your channel has rights to the recordings, compositions and visuals it streams; a playlist being prerecorded or continuously available does not itself establish permission. YouTube’s archive guidance says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That does not guarantee that a longer 24/7 broadcast will be preserved as one complete recording, so check the current YouTube guidance if an archive is important (YouTube live stream setup and archiving guidance).
