OBS Studio can import a scene collection from Streamlabs Desktop using its built-in importer. In OBS, enable the search for known locations under Settings > Importers, then choose Scene Collection > Import. After importing, select the collection in the Scene Collection menu to activate it. Your scenes and sources can move this way, but you should expect to verify or re-create some output, hotkey, and audio settings.
Import a Streamlabs Desktop scene collection
- Open OBS Studio settings. Click Settings, then open Importers.
- Enable automatic detection. Turn on Search known locations for scene collections when importing. This lets OBS look in known locations for Streamlabs Desktop scene collections.
- Open the importer. From OBS’s top menu, choose Scene Collection > Import.
- Choose the detected collection. Select the Streamlabs Desktop collection shown by OBS.
- Activate it. Open Scene Collection and select the collection you imported. Importing makes it available; selecting it switches OBS to it.
OBS’s built-in Scene Collection importer supports collections from Streamlabs Desktop, as well as OBS Classic and XSplit Broadcaster. You do not need the Streamlabs Plugin for OBS to import a collection. Streamlabs’ import guide was published September 23, 2024, and last updated February 6, 2026.
What transfers—and what to check afterward
Scene Collection: scenes and sources
A scene collection holds scenes and their sources. OBS also notes that global audio sources configured under Settings > Audio are part of scene collections. Imported sources may still depend on files, devices, or other resources being available on the computer where OBS is running, so inspect each scene rather than assuming every source is ready.
Output, hotkey, and audio preferences
Do not assume the entire Streamlabs setup has transferred. Streamlabs says output configurations, hotkeys, and audio settings may need to be set up again in OBS. Check those preferences and test the collection before going live. Streamlabs’ guide describes these as settings that may not transfer automatically.

Profiles are separate from scene collections
OBS Profiles save stream, video, and output settings; they do not store scenes. Profiles can be imported or exported as JSON. Scene Collections are for the scenes and sources, not output settings. Use the collection importer for your layout and manage output-related settings separately under Profile. See the OBS Project’s documentation on Scene Collections and Profiles.
If OBS does not find the collection
- Check the search option: Go to Settings > Importers and confirm Search known locations for scene collections when importing is enabled, then reopen Scene Collection > Import.
- Activate the imported collection: If the import completes but your old layout is not on screen, choose the collection from the Scene Collection menu.
- Inspect sources: Open the imported scenes and check that files, capture devices, and other sources are available on this computer.
- Recheck settings: Verify output configuration, hotkeys, and audio preferences in OBS; some may need to be configured again.
The official import instructions describe detection through known locations but do not establish every possible reason a collection might not appear. If these checks do not resolve it, consult the current OBS and Streamlabs support documentation for your installation.

Do you need the Streamlabs Plugin for OBS?
No—not for importing a Streamlabs Desktop scene collection. The Streamlabs Plugin for OBS is a separate, optional way to use Streamlabs widgets, alerts, overlays, and other features inside OBS. Streamlabs’ guide, last updated October 1, 2026, says the plugin requires OBS Studio 28.0.0 or later and is available on Windows. It is free to download and use, while multistream and some premium overlays are part of Streamlabs Ultra. Check Streamlabs’ current plugin guide for details that may change.
