The quickest fix is to minimize OBS. On supported systems, you can instead enable OBS’s capture-exclusion setting; if your loop comes from one app, use a supported window or application capture source rather than capturing the whole desktop.
Choose the fix that fits your capture setup
- You need to capture the whole display: minimize OBS, or use the documented capture-exclusion option for your operating system and source.
- You only need to show one app or window: use Window Capture or the relevant application-capture mode if your system and OBS source support it.
- You need OBS visible while the loop runs: put OBS on a second display and capture the other one. A second monitor or television is optional, not required.
Display Capture can include anything visible on the selected display, including OBS itself. Before relying on any method during a live loop, check the actual scene and output on your setup.
Minimize OBS: the simplest workaround
- In OBS, confirm that the live scene uses the display you intend to capture.
- Start or preview the loop and check that the captured image is correct.
- Minimize OBS to the taskbar or tray on Windows, or to the Dock or menu bar on macOS.
- Check the output again. If you bring OBS back onto the captured display, it may appear in the capture again; minimize it when you are done using the controls.
Minimizing changes whether the OBS window is visible in the captured image. It is not, by itself, a command to stop the stream. Still, verify your output because capture behavior depends on the source and system configuration.
Hide OBS from capture on Windows
- In OBS Studio, open Settings → General.
- Enable Hide OBS windows from screen capture.
- Return to the scene and confirm that the intended content appears in the output without the OBS interface.
While this setting is enabled, screenshots of OBS will not work. If you need to inspect or capture the OBS window itself, account for that behavior before troubleshooting.

Hide OBS from capture on macOS 13 or later
- Add or select a macOS Screen Capture source in OBS.
- Set the source to Display Capture.
- Enable Hide OBS from capture.
- Check the output to confirm that the desktop content you want is visible and OBS is excluded.
This documented option applies to the macOS Screen Capture source in Display Capture mode on macOS 13 Ventura or later. Do not assume the same control is available with a different source or macOS version.
Capture only the loop’s app or window
If your loop content is shown in a particular application, a narrower capture source can avoid showing unrelated desktop content and OBS. OBS lists Window Capture for Windows, Linux, and macOS 12.6 and earlier. On macOS 13 or later, macOS Screen Capture can capture a display, window, or application.

- In the scene, add or select the capture source that matches the content: a window or application source where supported.
- Select the intended app or window and confirm that it displays the video rather than an unrelated window or desktop area.
- Preview the scene and verify that switching, minimizing, or closing other windows will not reveal content you do not want viewers to see.
Use this approach only if it provides the loop image you intend viewers to see. Source behavior varies by platform and configuration, so verify it before leaving the stream unattended.

What Studio Mode and source visibility actually change
Studio Mode
Studio Mode lets you edit a scene in Preview separately from the scene viewers see in Program. The edited scene does not become the live output until you make a transition. This can help prevent accidental scene changes, but it does not hide a visible OBS window from Display Capture.

The source eye icon
The eye control hides or shows an individual source within an OBS scene. It does not exclude the OBS application window from a display capture. To keep OBS itself out of the captured desktop, minimize it, use a supported capture-exclusion setting, or capture a narrower source.
Troubleshoot a visible OBS window or unexpected output
- OBS appears in the loop: check whether the scene uses Display Capture on the same display as OBS. Minimize OBS, enable the supported exclusion setting, or switch to an appropriate window or application source.
- OBS reappears after you open it: if the display is being captured, the visible OBS window may be captured again. Minimize OBS after using its controls, or keep it on a separate display.
- The Windows exclusion option does not seem to work: confirm that Hide OBS windows from screen capture is enabled in Settings → General, then inspect the actual output. The setting also suppresses screenshots of OBS while active.
- You cannot find the macOS exclusion option: check that you are using a macOS Screen Capture source, set to Display Capture, on macOS 13 or later. The documented instructions do not establish the same option for other sources or versions.
- Hiding a source does not hide OBS: the eye icon affects a scene source, not the OBS application window. Use a capture-exclusion option or change what the scene captures.
- The preview looks right, but you are unsure what viewers see: inspect the live output and confirm the correct scene is on Program. In Studio Mode, changes in Preview are not live until you transition.
- You are concerned that minimizing will interrupt the loop: minimizing is a visibility workaround, not a stream-stop command. Because behavior depends on the capture source and system setup, check the output before relying on an unattended stream.
