Scheduling creates an upcoming event page; it does not provide the video feed or make a YouTube playlist repeat as the broadcast source. To send prerecorded material as a live event, you need an encoder or a playback system that can supply the feed. YouTube’s playlist Loop control is for viewers watching a playlist, not for programming a live broadcast.
Why playlist looping and a scheduled live event are different
A YouTube playlist’s Loop or Repeat control changes playback for the person watching it. YouTube documents turning on playlist repeat from the playlist box on a computer or mobile device, or choosing “Repeat • Playlist” on a TV or game console. A scheduled live stream is a broadcast feed. The scheduled page can appear as an upcoming event, and viewers may choose “Notify me,” but a creator still has to send video to YouTube. How to broadcast prerecorded material in a scheduled event
For a one-off documentary, recording, or edited compilation, prepare the media as the encoder’s source and use that encoder to send it to the scheduled event. A YouTube playlist URL should not be assumed to work as an automatically repeating source in event settings.

- In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, open the Manage tab and create or schedule the live stream.
- In your encoder, enter the YouTube Live server URL and stream key for the event. Keep the key private; anyone who has it may be able to send a feed to your channel.
- At the scheduled time, start the encoder and confirm that the preview appears in Live Control Room.
- Select Go live in Live Control Room when you are ready to begin the broadcast.
- To finish, end the stream in YouTube and stop sending from the encoder.
For a repeating programme, verify that the chosen encoder or playback system can continuously play the source you need, repeat it, and restart or reconnect as intended. Check its current documentation and test the full workflow before relying on it; YouTube’s encoder instructions explain the connection to a live event, not the repeat capabilities of every encoder.
What YouTube’s documented encoder options establish
YouTube lists software encoders including OBS and Wirecast, as well as hardware such as the AJA HELO Plus. YouTube describes the HELO Plus’s optional PlayToStream functionality as a way to schedule and stream prerecorded media directly to YouTube Live without a computer. That is a specific hardware example; the cited YouTube page does not establish that PlayToStream imports a YouTube playlist URL or repeats playlist items. What scheduling, DVR, and archiving do—and do not do
- Scheduling: creates an upcoming event page that viewers can find and opt to be notified about; it does not generate or repeat the broadcast feed.
- Trailer: YouTube’s live settings documentation says scheduled streams can have a trailer lasting 15 seconds to 3 minutes. Eligibility requires more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guideline strikes. A trailer is separate from the live programme itself. YouTube live stream settings
- DVR: lets viewers pause, rewind, and continue during a stream. It affects a viewer’s playback position, not the source being sent by the broadcaster.
- Archive: YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. An archive is a recording of the stream, not a way to loop its outgoing feed. YouTube encoder guide
