How to pitch a story or guest idea
TODAY’s About page provides the editorial contact for story ideas and asks senders to include their name, message, and best contact method. It does not publish a guest application or a formula for selection. The following outline is practical advice, not an official TODAY template.
- Write a specific subject line. Name the story or question plainly rather than asking generally for exposure.
- Start with the reason it matters now. State the timely development or audience-relevant question in the first sentence.
- Explain what is distinctive and verifiable. Briefly say what the proposed guest can contribute and what facts or sources support the idea.
- Identify the person and their connection to the subject. Be candid about relevant interests, affiliations, or commercial ties.
- Include your name and best contact method. These are details TODAY specifically requests.
Keep the initial email focused and avoid sending large unsolicited attachments. If an editor is interested, follow their directions for any additional information. Do not present an appearance as assured: the official contact information does not state booking odds, typical response times, or paid access to an interview.
What to know about editorial standards
TODAY says its reporting is guided by accuracy, fairness, and transparency. It says it relies on named sources and labels sponsorships and branded content. A useful pitch should therefore separate documented facts from claims and disclose a proposed guest’s relevant interests. These stated principles are not a selection rubric and following them does not guarantee a booking.

NBC News Group’s audience-visit help article, updated November 19, 2025, directs visitors to TODAY’s live-plaza information. TODAY’s About page also says visitors should register. Check the official visit instructions for current dates, arrival procedures, and event-specific requirements before traveling; the help article does not reproduce those logistics.

Because that location detail is from an older page, verify current access and visit details through the live-plaza instructions before making plans.
