You usually do not need advanced features to start a live stream from a computer. Phone verification unlocks YouTube’s intermediate features, including computer live streaming with a limited daily limit. Advanced features are a separate tier that raises the daily limit and requires sufficient channel history or identity verification if YouTube offers it to you.
Check which feature tier your channel has
- Sign in to the YouTube Studio account for the channel you want to stream from.
- Open Settings → Channel → Feature eligibility.
- Review the status for intermediate and advanced features. The page shows your channel’s current eligibility; it does not guarantee that every verification route will be offered.
YouTube groups computer live streaming under intermediate features. Advanced access provides a higher daily limit, rather than being the initial requirement for computer streaming. YouTube’s feature eligibility guidance explains the tiers.
Unlock intermediate features with phone verification
If intermediate features are not enabled, complete phone verification from the Feature eligibility page. YouTube sends a verification code by text message or voice call. Enter the code as prompted, then return to the page and confirm that intermediate features are enabled. YouTube lists computer live streaming among the features available at this tier. YouTube’s account verification instructions describe the phone step.
This is the key distinction: phone verification is the usual first step to unlock computer live streaming; advanced access is not required just to cross that initial threshold. Intermediate access has a limited daily live-streaming limit, while advanced access raises the limit. YouTube does not specify a single universal numerical limit in the help information cited here, so check your Studio eligibility page for the status applied to your channel.

Request advanced feature access
After phone verification, use the advanced-features workflow on YouTube Studio → Settings → Channel → Feature eligibility. Depending on what YouTube makes available to your channel, you can qualify through either route:

Follow the steps shown in Studio for the route offered. Keep the channel in line with YouTube’s policies and maintain positive channel history: policy noncompliance or a loss of positive history can delay or remove advanced-feature eligibility. You can return to Feature eligibility to check the channel’s status.

Check live-streaming requirements separately
Feature eligibility is not the only gate. YouTube says a channel must be verified and have had no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. The streamer must also be at least 16 years old. These are separate live-streaming requirements; buying equipment or completing advanced identity verification does not override a restriction or age requirement. - Webcam: Stream from a computer with a webcam.
- Encoder: Use streaming software or hardware for gameplay or a production involving equipment such as microphones, cameras, or preamps.
- Mobile or console: YouTube also lists these as streaming methods; their availability and setup depend on the method and channel.
These are ways to produce a stream, not ways to unlock channel eligibility. A webcam is only needed if you choose the webcam method.
If live streaming is still unavailable
- Intermediate features are not enabled: Complete phone verification, then check Feature eligibility again.
- You have intermediate access but want a higher daily limit: Complete the advanced-features workflow and use a history or identity route that YouTube offers.
- The verification option is missing: ID and video verification are not offered to every creator. Check again in Studio; YouTube does not publish a guaranteed timeline for building channel history.
- Verification is complete but streaming is blocked: Check whether the channel has a live-streaming restriction within the last 90 days and whether the streamer meets the minimum age requirement.
- You are using an encoder or webcam: Confirm you selected a supported streaming method, but remember that changing equipment does not change Feature eligibility.
