A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11Start the DVD, stop playback, then open DVD control panel → Setup → Screen Setup → TV Type and choose 16:9 for a widescreen TV. Sony documents this setting in the PlayStation 2 User Guide for models SCPH-90002/SCPH-90003.
Set the PS2 DVD picture to 16:9
- Insert the DVD and start it.
- Stop playback. The TV Type option is unavailable while a DVD is playing or Resume Play is active. If Resume Play appears, clear it before continuing.
- Press SELECT on the controller to show the DVD control panel. Choose Setup → Screen Setup → TV Type.
- Select 16:9, then return to the control panel. Stop playback or open the disc cover to save the setting.
Sony describes TV Type as the setting for matching the picture’s aspect ratio to the connected television. Sony’s PlayStation 2 User Guide documents these controls for SCPH-90002/SCPH-90003.
Choose the right setting for a 4:3 television
If the connected TV is a standard 4:3 screen, choose between preserving the whole widescreen image and filling the screen by cropping its sides:
| TV Type | What you see | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| 4:3 Letter Box | The full wide picture, with margins above and below. | Preserves the whole image but does not fill the screen vertically. |
| 4:3 PAN SCAN | The picture fills the screen height. | Crops the left and right sides of the image. |
If the picture still is not widescreen
- Check the TV’s picture-size controls. A television’s own aspect-ratio or picture-size setting may override the PS2 setting. Look for controls such as Aspect, Picture Size, or Screen Mode in the TV menu. Sony notes that some TVs and DVDs do not allow the image size to be changed.
- Bypass an AV receiver or selector. If the console is connected through an AV receiver or video selector, connect it directly to the TV and check again. Sony says an intervening device can prevent image-size changes.
- Confirm the setting was saved. Stop playback or open the disc cover after changing TV Type. If Resume Play was active, clear it and repeat the change while playback is stopped.
Progressive scan is not the widescreen switch
Progressive scan is a separate video-output feature, not the setting to use simply to make a DVD widescreen. Sony says it requires a television and AV cable that support 480p; its separately sold Component AV Cable is compatible. When Progressive is turned on, TV Type is automatically set to 16:9. Turn Progressive off if the TV lacks compatible equipment or picture quality gets worse.
