First, check whether the lofi broadcast actually ended or whether YouTube paused playback for you. A “Video paused. Continue watching?” prompt is YouTube’s viewer inactivity check—not evidence that the creator’s stream is offline. If the broadcast is offline for everyone, check YouTube Studio’s live-stream health messages and copyright status instead.
Identify what stopped before changing anything
Check the screen where playback stopped. The wording and symptoms point to different causes, and a viewer-side pause needs a different fix from a creator-side outage.
| What you see | What it usually indicates | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| “Video paused. Continue watching?” | YouTube’s viewer inactivity check, when Autoplay is enabled | Select “Yes” to continue playback. [YouTube Help] |
| Autoplay stops without that prompt | YouTube’s inactivity limit may have been reached | Check whether you are watching on mobile data or Wi-Fi, and use the relevant limits below. [YouTube Help] |
| Spinning indicator, repeated buffering, or quality drops | Playback or network trouble, potentially affected by live-stream delay | Try a stable connection; if the player offers a less aggressive low-latency option, try it. [YouTube Help] |
| The stream is offline for all viewers | A creator-side broadcast problem, copyright interruption, or other stream termination | Check the Live Control Room’s timestamped health messages and review copyright or Community Guidelines notices. [Google for Developers] [YouTube Help] |
If YouTube shows “Video paused. Continue watching?”
This prompt is a playback pause, not a signal that the lofi channel’s live broadcast has ended. YouTube says it asks the question “to protect your watch history and help make sure you don’t use internet data if you’re not actually watching YouTube.” With Autoplay enabled, YouTube Help lists the prompt timings as 30 minutes of uninterrupted viewing on mobile, 60 minutes on the web, and 180 minutes on TV. The page does not show a publication date; these are the timings in YouTube’s guidance accessed in 2026. [YouTube Help]
- When the prompt appears, select “Yes” to resume playback.
- If you are trying to listen hands-free, account for the prompt on the device you are using; the broadcast may still be live while your player is paused.
- If playback stops without this prompt, check the separate Autoplay inactivity limits below.
If Autoplay stops without showing the prompt
YouTube says Autoplay stops automatically after 30 minutes of inactivity on mobile data or after four hours on Wi-Fi. These are different from the prompt timings above, and the connection type matters. [YouTube Help]

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- On mobile data, a stop after roughly 30 minutes of inactivity is consistent with YouTube’s published limit.
- On Wi-Fi, a stop after roughly four hours of inactivity is consistent with its published limit.
- If neither the timing nor the symptom fits, check whether the player is buffering or whether the broadcast itself has gone offline.
If playback buffers or the picture quality drops
Buffering, a spinning indicator, and sudden quality changes suggest a network or live-playback issue rather than an inactivity prompt. YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance notes that lower broadcast delay means less buffer and a greater chance of playback interruption; network congestion and other factors can also affect live programming. [YouTube Help]
- Try a more stable internet connection, particularly if other video or audio services are also struggling.
- If the player makes a less aggressive low-latency choice available, try it; the trade-off is more buffer in exchange for a lower chance of interruption from playback fluctuations.
- If only one viewer has trouble, check that viewer’s connection and player before concluding that the creator’s broadcast failed.
If the broadcast is offline for everyone
For the channel owner, open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and inspect the timestamped stream-health messages around the time the broadcast stopped. Use the specific message to guide the fix rather than assuming every outage has the same cause. Google’s diagnostic documentation includes insufficient video output, which can cause buffering, unsupported encoding, and keyframes sent too infrequently. [Google for Developers]

- Open YouTube Studio and go to the Live Control Room for the affected broadcast.
- Find the health messages at the time viewers lost the stream. Note the exact message and timestamp.
- Correct the problem the message identifies—for example, investigate output that is insufficient, an unsupported encoding, or keyframes that are too far apart.
- Confirm whether the stream has resumed for viewers. If the health messages do not explain the outage, review any copyright or Community Guidelines notices before changing equipment or encoder settings.
Check copyright and policy notices on lofi broadcasts
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. It says detected content may interrupt or terminate a stream. Even music licensed for use can be interrupted if the channel is not on the rights owner’s Content ID allowlist. If a music broadcast disappears, check YouTube Studio for copyright or Community Guidelines strikes and verify that the music’s permissions cover live use and that any required allowlisting is in place. [YouTube Help]
Do not treat a license, a prior upload that stayed online, or a viewer’s playback pause as proof that a live stream is cleared or offline, respectively. Use the channel’s notices and the rights information for the specific music to investigate.

Does YouTube stop live streams after 12 hours?
The 12-hour guidance concerns DVR and archiving, not a documented universal rule that live broadcasts end after a few hours. YouTube says DVR may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours, while its official setup instructions say streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Those are rewind and recording constraints, not proof of a general live-stream cutoff. [YouTube Help]
A 2019 GitHub issue records one creator’s report of a stream ending around 12 hours. It is an individual historical report, not official YouTube policy and not evidence of a platform-wide cutoff. [GitHub issue #126, opened 2019-05-12]
