SHAK-Undefined-PS is a reported Crunchyroll video playback error, but Crunchyroll’s cited support pages do not explain this exact code or promise a universal fix. The “-PS” ending does not prove the problem is on a PlayStation: users have reported seeing the code in desktop browsers, too. Start by checking whether one episode, one device, or all playback is affected, then refresh your session and test another browser, device, or network.
What does SHAK-Undefined-PS mean?
The exact code appears in Crunchyroll user reports, including reports from desktop viewers, but those posts are anecdotal rather than an official diagnosis. Community reports of SHAK playback errors include other, different SHAK codes as well; quote the complete code you see rather than treating them as interchangeable.
Crunchyroll’s support pages cited here cover playback problems generally, not a specific decoding of SHAK-Undefined-PS. “Undefined” therefore gives viewers no confirmed underlying cause. Do not assume “SHAK” expands to a particular technical phrase or that “PS” means PlayStation. A temporary service or episode problem, an expired session, stored browser data, an extension or network filter, an app issue, or regional/account availability could be involved; these are possibilities to test, not confirmed causes of this code.
First identify what is failing
Before clearing data or reinstalling anything, try the same episode again after refreshing, another episode in that series, a different series, and—if available—a different audio or subtitle version. Then compare playback in another browser or device. Note whether the home page, search, and login work normally. Crunchyroll’s PlayStation playback guidance also asks whether the problem affects all shows or particular episodes and whether the viewer is watching dubbed or subtitled content.

This comparison helps narrow the fault; it does not by itself confirm that Crunchyroll is experiencing an outage. Do not treat an outage as confirmed unless Crunchyroll posts an official notice.
Try these fixes in order
1. Refresh the Crunchyroll session
- Sign out on the affected device.
- Close the browser or app completely, reopen it, and sign back in on that device.
- Try the same video again.
Crunchyroll recommends signing out and back in as a general playback troubleshooting step. Signing out of unused sessions is optional; a normal multi-device login is not, by itself, evidence of the cause. See Crunchyroll’s general video-play troubleshooting.
2. On a computer, test a private window and another browser
Open Crunchyroll in your browser’s private or incognito window and try playback. If it works there, the regular browser profile’s stored data or an extension may be interfering. Also try a different, up-to-date browser to distinguish a profile problem from a broader device or network problem.

3. Temporarily disable browser extensions and blockers
Turn off ad or pop-up blockers, script and privacy blockers, video-download or user-agent extensions, VPN extensions, and antivirus browser protection for a brief test. Reload Crunchyroll. If that resolves playback, re-enable items one at a time and whitelist Crunchyroll in the item that causes the problem. Do not leave antivirus protection disabled. Crunchyroll’s loading guidance notes that extensions can interfere with pages or video playback.
4. Clear Crunchyroll site data
- Open your browser settings and find Privacy, Cookies, or Site Data.
- Search for Crunchyroll and remove its stored site data rather than wiping all browser data if your browser allows that.
- Restart the browser, sign in again, and test playback.
This can sign you out and reset site preferences. Crunchyroll recommends clearing cache and cookies, restarting the browser, and signing in again in its site-loading troubleshooting.
5. Compare networks, then restart the router if indicated
Try a phone hotspot, another Wi-Fi network, or wired Ethernet if available. If playback works on the alternate connection, check the original network’s router, DNS or parental-control filters, VPN or proxy, and ISP routing. Disable a VPN for this test: changing your apparent region can affect content availability or access, so a VPN is not a recommended workaround. A DNS change is at most a diagnostic test, not a guaranteed fix.

If the issue appears limited to your home connection, restart the router or modem: unplug it for about 30 seconds, reconnect it, wait for the connection to return, then test again. Crunchyroll includes this restart in its general playback steps. A successful reboot may clear a transient connection problem; it cannot repair a Crunchyroll-side fault or a broken episode.
6. Update the browser, app, and device
Install available browser, Crunchyroll app, operating-system, and device firmware updates. On PlayStation, Crunchyroll specifically recommends checking both console system software and the app version in its PS4/PS5 playback instructions.

Use the console steps if the problem is actually on a PlayStation—not merely because the code ends in “PS.” Crunchyroll’s current guidance is:

- Hold the PS button and choose Power > Turn Off PS4/PS5; do not use Rest Mode.
- Wait until the console light stops blinking, then unplug its power cable for approximately 30 seconds.
- Reconnect the power cable and start the console.
- Highlight Crunchyroll on the home screen, press Options, and select Delete.
- Reinstall Crunchyroll from the PlayStation Store and check for an app update.
- If Crunchyroll is installed on extended storage, move it to the console’s internal storage.
These are platform-specific steps from Crunchyroll’s PS4 and PS5 troubleshooting page; they are not a general fix for desktop users.

Android
Update the Crunchyroll app, restart the device, and install available operating-system updates. To clear the app cache, open Settings > Apps > Crunchyroll > Storage > Clear Cache (labels can vary by device). If that does not help, Clear Data may be an option; it signs you out and removes local app data. Reinstall the app from the official app store if needed. Crunchyroll’s Android app troubleshooting page lists Android 8 and above as supported and describes update, restart, cache/data, and reinstall steps; check that page for the current requirement.
Smart TVs, streaming sticks, Xbox, and Switch
Fully restart the device, update its software and Crunchyroll app, and reinstall the app where the platform allows it. Use a device’s cache-clearing option only if its maker supports that procedure. Crunchyroll’s general playback guidance covers these kinds of devices, with platform-specific steps where available.

When to stop troubleshooting locally
Contact Crunchyroll Support when the error persists across devices or browsers, continues on another network, affects every show, or remains after refreshing the session and trying the relevant device steps. If only one episode fails on multiple devices, report it as a possible episode or catalog problem rather than repeatedly reinstalling apps. If another account plays the same title on your device while yours does not, include that comparison for Support; it may help distinguish an account or entitlement issue.
What to send Crunchyroll Support
Include enough detail to let Support distinguish an episode problem from a device, account, or network fault:
- The exact code,
SHAK-Undefined-PS, and a screenshot. - Your account email and country or region.
- Device model and operating-system version; for a browser, its name and version; for an app, the app version if available.
- The series, season, episode, and audio/subtitle version affected, and whether other shows play.
- Whether the problem occurs on more than one device or network, and whether another device or network works.
- When it began and the troubleshooting steps already completed.
Crunchyroll’s PlayStation guidance asks for details such as device, region, affected content, language version, and a screenshot. Its Support information says streaming and account help is available through live chat and email 24/7 and that phone support is not offered. Use Crunchyroll’s official Support channels, and do not share payment details or passwords with accounts claiming to provide support.
