1. Check whether Switchboard is receiving the encoder feed
Open the intended Switchboard workflow and check its Confidence Monitor before changing YouTube settings. The monitor separates the two connections in the broadcast path: encoder to Switchboard, then Switchboard to YouTube.
- If it says “Not Receiving”: the problem is on the encoder-to-Switchboard leg. Confirm that the encoder is running and that its Start or Go Live control has been pressed.
- If it says “Receiving”: the encoder feed has reached Switchboard. Continue to YouTube eligibility, destination authorization, stream-key, and event-title checks.
Switchboard’s Not Receiving Video guide recommends checking that the encoder uses the URL and stream key for the correct Switchboard workflow, updating encoder software, and checking upload bandwidth.
Match the encoder to the exact Switchboard workflow
In Switchboard, open the workflow you intend to use and copy its RTMP(S) URL and stream key into the encoder’s server and key fields. A key from another workflow may send the encoder somewhere else or leave the intended workflow without a feed. Do not substitute YouTube’s key for the Switchboard workflow credentials at this step.

Check encoder settings and upload capacity
For a new or reconfigured workflow, Switchboard’s initial setup guide recommends constant bitrate (CBR), a two-second keyframe interval, and 30 or 60 FPS. These are Switchboard’s recommended starting settings, not a guarantee that a particular encoder, network, or video will work at those values. Send a test feed and wait for the Confidence Monitor to show “Receiving” before starting destinations.
If the feed remains absent, verify that the encoder is connected to the internet and that the available upload bandwidth can sustain the selected output. If possible, reduce the output bitrate or resolution as a diagnostic, then test again. Change one setting at a time so you can identify what restores the feed.

2. If Switchboard receives video, check YouTube access and the destination
A received feed does not prove that YouTube is live. First confirm that you selected the intended YouTube channel as the Switchboard destination and that the destination connection is still authorized. If it appears stale, reconnect the YouTube destination using Switchboard’s platform connection flow, then retry after the encoder feed is present.
Confirm the channel can livestream
YouTube’s live-streaming getting-started guidance says the channel must be verified and must not have a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. Check YouTube Studio for the channel’s eligibility, status, and notices. YouTube identifies policy and copyright restrictions as possible reasons live streaming may be disabled; see Avoid restrictions on YouTube live streaming.

Refresh the YouTube stream key if YouTube reports an encoder start error
If YouTube reports an encoder start error, follow YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting guidance: obtain a new stream key from Live Control Room and update the encoder connection as directed. Verify that the key is for the intended channel and stream. Keep it distinct from the Switchboard workflow URL and key, which serve the encoder-to-Switchboard connection.
3. If YouTube schedules the broadcast instead of going live
Switchboard’s FAQ says an active template missing a YouTube stream title may cause a stream to schedule rather than go live. Stop the stream, update the YouTube title in the designated field in the active template, and follow Switchboard’s YouTube connection flow before retrying.

4. Verify which leg is failing
A test feed that appears in the Confidence Monitor confirms the encoder-to-Switchboard connection; it does not, by itself, confirm that Switchboard has started a YouTube broadcast. After starting the YouTube destination, use Switchboard’s View Stream control to open the platform stream and check its status.
- If the monitor still says “Not Receiving,” return to encoder status, workflow URL/key, encoder settings, and upload capacity.
- If the monitor says “Receiving” but YouTube is not live, focus on channel eligibility, the connected YouTube destination, the YouTube stream key, or the active title and event setup.
- If YouTube is live but the picture or sound is wrong, inspect the encoder’s actual output and the YouTube stream preview rather than treating destination startup as proof of correct audio and video.
Does being in India prevent this encoder workflow?
The official guidance reviewed does not establish that Switchboard’s encoder-to-YouTube workflow is blocked in India or that India alone prevents an encoder stream from starting. YouTube’s general live-stream setup checks apply; the separate mobile livestream guide concerns streaming from a phone and is not evidence of an encoder restriction. A broadcast-start problem should not be conflated with monetization eligibility or mobile-only features.
