If Streamlabs Desktop reports that Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables are missing—or their setup fails—install both the x86 (32-bit) and x64 (64-bit) Visual C++ packages, restart Windows, and then try Streamlabs Desktop again. If installation fails, repair the newest installed Visual C++ entries from Windows Apps and restart.
Why Streamlabs Desktop needs the Visual C++ Redistributable
Microsoft’s Visual C++ Redistributable installs runtime libraries that applications built with Microsoft Visual C++ can need in order to run. Streamlabs’ dedicated prerequisite article asks users to install both the x86 and x64 packages, including on 64-bit Windows. Microsoft’s general guidance is that an application’s architecture must match its runtime, so follow Streamlabs’ specific instruction to install both rather than guessing which one the error needs.
Streamlabs’ dedicated prerequisite page, last updated April 22, 2025, refers to the Visual C++ 2015–2022 Redistributables. Its getting-started material has also used a 2017 label. Microsoft explains that the v14 Redistributable is shared across Visual Studio 2017 and later toolsets and recommends the latest supported package for eligible applications. Use the current packages linked from Microsoft’s download page, and follow any newer directions shown in Streamlabs’ support material.
Install both packages and restart Windows

Download the x86 and x64 installers from Microsoft. Use Microsoft’s official downloads rather than third-party repacks.

Run each installer and complete its prompts. Install both architectures even if your Windows installation is 64-bit.

Restart your computer, then open Streamlabs Desktop and check whether the original error is resolved.
If the Redistributable installer fails
Repair the newest installed Visual C++ entries
Streamlabs recommends repairing the installed packages if setup fails. In Windows, open Settings > Apps > Installed apps (called Apps & features on some Windows versions), find the newest Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable entries, and use each entry’s Modify option, then choose Repair. Repair both the x86 and x64 entries, restart Windows, and retry the installation or Streamlabs Desktop.

Address a continuing installation error
Microsoft’s installation troubleshooting guidance recommends running the standalone installer as an administrator and installing pending Windows updates. If installation still fails, collect Visual Studio installation logs and inspect the Visual C++ Redistributable logs included with them. Security software can also block setup; do not leave antivirus protection disabled. If you temporarily change a protection setting while troubleshooting, turn it back on afterward.
If Streamlabs Desktop still shows an error
Installing or repairing the runtime is one possible fix, not a guarantee for every crash or launch problem. Streamlabs’ crash troubleshooting guide also points to Windows updates, graphics-driver updates, launching the app as administrator, and checking whether firewall or antivirus settings are interfering. For an issue specifically affecting going live, consult its going-live troubleshooting guide. If the error persists after those checks, submit a ticket to Streamlabs support.
