Set the output to 3840Ă—2160 and the frame rate to 60—or 59.94 if that matches your source and workflow. If either option is unavailable, first identify whether the limitation is in OBS, your capture device, or your system; a 4K60 canvas by itself does not make a stream 4K60.
Start with the OBS output settings
Go to Settings > Video. OBS distinguishes the scene workspace from the video it sends out:
- Base (Canvas) Resolution is the workspace where OBS arranges and composites sources.
- Output (Scaled) Resolution sets the dimensions of the stream or recording.
- Common FPS Value sets the desired output frame rate.
For 4K60, the output target is 3840Ă—2160 at 60 fps. The canvas can differ, but mismatched canvas and output dimensions may require scaling. Changing these fields will not create detail or motion that the original source does not contain. See the OBS Studio Overview Guide.
If a setting is missing or unavailable
Do not assume that buying a graphics card is the answer. The cause cannot be determined from the symptom alone, and OBS version, operating system, selected encoder, active outputs, and hardware can affect what you see. Confirm the OBS version and which settings page you are viewing, then check the source and system capabilities below. If the controls still appear disabled, capture a screenshot of Settings > Video and Settings > Output, plus an OBS log, before seeking setup-specific help.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Check whether your video source can actually deliver 4K60
If your camera or capture card supplies the footage, right-click its Video Capture Device source in the Sources list and open Properties. Inspect Resolution/FPS Type, Resolution, and FPS. The available modes depend on the device. OBS notes that unsupported resolution or frame-rate selections may leave the source without a picture; its Video Capture Sources guide explains device-mode support.
Check the entire chain, not just the OBS output: camera or playback source, capture device, connection, and any conversion in between. A source that tops out below 4K60 cannot become native 4K60 because the canvas or output is set higher. Upscaling may produce a 4K-sized signal, but it does not restore detail absent from the source.

Separate a missing option from a performance problem
If OBS lets you select 3840×2160 and 60 fps but the stream stutters, freezes, or drops frames, the option is not the problem: the system may be unable to render or encode that output reliably. OBS uses GPU resources for scene compositing, and its overview warns that “60-fps streaming can be very taxing on your system compared to 30-fps.” Hardware encoders are available only when supported by the platform and hardware; consult OBS’s Hardware Encoding guide.
- Run a controlled test at 4K60 and note whether OBS reports rendering or encoding lag.
- Simplify the scene temporarily by disabling unnecessary sources, filters, and effects. This helps isolate compositing load.
- If the test remains unstable, reduce output resolution or frame rate—try 4K30 or a lower resolution at 60 fps—and compare. OBS’s Encoding Performance Troubleshooting guide recommends reducing output resolution or frame rate when investigating performance.
- Choose the highest setting that remains stable in a realistic test. The correct fix depends on whether rendering, encoding, or the network is the bottleneck.
Match YouTube’s 4K60 ingest recommendations
YouTube supports 4K/2160p at up to 60 fps. Its current English-language encoder settings guidance, accessed in 2026, lists these 4K60 bitrate recommendations:

These are YouTube’s published settings, not independent performance measurements or a guarantee that a particular encoder, connection, or stream key will sustain 4K60. YouTube also recommends CBR and a two-second keyframe interval, not exceeding four seconds. Apply the appropriate encoder settings in OBS’s Settings > Output controls; exact labels and available options depend on the encoder you selected. See YouTube’s Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
Check upload capacity and stream health
Test using movement and audio similar to the real stream, and check that available upload capacity can sustain the chosen bitrate with room for fluctuations. Monitor stream health in YouTube Live Control Room during the test. YouTube says 4K/2160 streams do not offer the low-latency option and use normal latency, so do not expect a low-latency setting to fix an ingest problem.

Check the stream key only when the YouTube side is at fault
YouTube normally detects the incoming resolution and frame rate automatically. If Live Control Room does not detect the intended mode or the stream fails to connect, verify that OBS is using the correct stream key and that the stream settings match. YouTube Live Control Room supports custom stream keys with manual stream-resolution settings. Its Manage live stream settings page describes those controls. Do not change the key as a first response to an OBS settings menu that lacks an option.

|---|---|---|
| 3840Ă—2160 or 60 is absent in OBS Video settings | Confirm you are in Settings > Video; note OBS version, platform, and the exact control that is missing. | Check source modes and setup-specific constraints. If unresolved, share screenshots of Video and Output settings and an OBS log for diagnosis. |
| Capture source is black after selecting 4K or 60 fps | The chosen mode may not be supported by the camera or capture device. | Return to an available mode in source Properties and check the device documentation for supported resolutions and frame rates. |
| OBS accepts 4K60, but output stutters or lags | Rendering or encoding load may exceed available system capacity. | Simplify the scene and test a lower resolution or frame rate; compare the results. |
| YouTube reports poor stream health or cannot sustain the stream | Check bitrate, CBR, keyframe interval, upload stability, and stream health. | Run a preflight test and adjust to a stable configuration using YouTube’s encoder recommendations. |
| YouTube does not detect the expected mode or the stream will not connect | Verify the stream key and any manual resolution setting in Live Control Room. | Correct the YouTube-side stream configuration, then test again. |
