To fix crackling before a YouTube Live shop promotion, first find where it enters: the microphone or other source, OBS monitoring, the local recording, or YouTube playback. Make a short test recording and compare those points before changing settings or buying equipment. A crackling symptom by itself does not identify the cause, and no special India-only fix is established; investigate the internet connection only if your local output is clean but the live stream is not.
Find where the crackling starts
Reproduce the problem in a short test and listen at each point you can access: the input outside OBS, OBS audio monitoring, a local OBS recording, and the YouTube stream. Note whether the sound is continuous, appears only when the system is under load, follows a particular scene or source, or starts only after going live. This comparison is a practical way to narrow the fault; YouTube advises checking sources routed to the encoder and reviewing the local archive (YouTube Help: Fix audio and video issues in your live stream).
- Crackle before OBS: Check the microphone or other device, its connection, and its driver or settings.
- Only one OBS source crackles: Confirm OBS selected the intended input and that an unused webcam microphone or other source is not mixed in. Test the noisy source by itself.
- OBS monitoring crackles but the local recording is clean: Check the selected monitoring device and routing separately. A community OBS forum discussion describes monitoring-buffer buildup as one possible synchronization issue, not a universal cause (OBS forum discussion).
- The local recording also crackles: Focus on the input, OBS routing, device formats, and system load. YouTube recommends checking source quality and CPU load.
- Local output is clean but YouTube playback crackles: Check Live Control Room stream health and messages, then test the outbound connection.
Check OBS, device, and YouTube audio settings
Confirm the input and routing
In OBS, make sure the intended microphone or interface is active and that you have not accidentally added a second microphone, such as one built into a webcam. Temporarily test the relevant source alone so you can tell whether another active input is contributing noise.
Compare sample rates without assuming a mismatch
Compare OBS Settings → Audio → Sample Rate with the audio device’s operating-system format and, if applicable, its interface control panel. A community OBS troubleshooting case describes a setup using a 48 kHz OBS project with a 16 kHz microphone and recommends consistent formats; that is a clue for similar setups, not proof that mismatched rates explain every crackle (OBS forum discussion). Check your actual device capabilities and logs before changing formats.

Do not confuse that forum example with YouTube’s published encoder guidance. For RTMP/RTMPS, YouTube lists AAC or MP3 audio and recommends 44.1 kHz for stereo or 48 kHz for 5.1 surround sound. Its listed audio bitrates are 128 Kbps for stereo and 384 Kbps for 5.1 (YouTube Help: Live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions). Use settings appropriate to your stream and device; do not change a working configuration just to match an unrelated example.
YouTube’s separate error guidance says the ingestion stream should contain one audio stream—not zero or multiple—and advises correcting audio-setting errors if reported (YouTube Help: Fix live streaming errors).

Check encoder health and the delivery path
Review OBS logs and YouTube Live Control Room messages for audio or encoder errors. YouTube says poor audio or video can come from sources routed to the encoder, recommends checking encoder errors and CPU load, and advises reviewing a local archive. If the encoder output and local archive sound clean, check stream health and test the outbound internet connection; contact your internet service provider if testing identifies a connection problem (YouTube Help: Fix audio and video issues in your live stream; YouTube Help: Monitor your live stream).
Do not raise video bitrate as a speculative fix for audio crackling. Tie any change to an observed encoder or stream-health diagnostic; a bitrate increase does not establish or repair a microphone, routing, or audio-format fault.

Run a realistic shop-promo test before going live
YouTube recommends testing before the event with audio and movement similar to the intended stream, monitoring stream health, and reviewing messages. Its live-streaming tips also recommend preparing the encoder ahead of time, previewing before starting, and continuously monitoring audio and video (YouTube Help: Live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions; YouTube Help: Monitor your live stream).
- Rehearse the actual microphone or interface, speaking level, product demonstration sounds, planned music, and scene changes.
- Make a local OBS recording and listen back for crackle before relying on the live preview.
- Preview the live stream and check YouTube’s stream-health messages and OBS status.
- Listen from a second device if available, using the playback route your audience is likely to use.
- Keep monitoring audio and video throughout the promotion so a new fault is noticed promptly.
Music or other third-party audio can raise copyright issues even when the stream sounds technically clean. Use audio you have permission to stream and review YouTube’s requirements before the promotion (YouTube Help: Copyright on YouTube).
