If Hindi audio disappears from a 24/7 YouTube class stream, first find out where it disappears: in the source file, FFmpeg’s selected output streams, YouTube ingest, or the network path. The title alone cannot identify the cause. Confirm the Hindi track exists, map its actual stream explicitly, inspect the output, then compare FFmpeg’s local result with YouTube Live Control Room’s timestamped warning.
Locate where the audio disappears
Do not assume YouTube is rejecting Hindi or that a long-running stream is the cause. Treat this first as a source-and-stream-selection problem, then check encoding, ingest, and network evidence.
- Capture the evidence. Record your FFmpeg version and full command, but redact the YouTube stream key. Save the input’s
ffprobestream listing, FFmpeg’s output header and logs around the dropout, a local recording or output capture, the ingest protocol (RTMP or HLS), and the time and exact wording of any YouTube Live Control Room warning. YouTube says stream errors include timestamps and remain visible while unresolved (YouTube live-stream errors). - Check the source at the affected point. Play or inspect the input where Hindi speech should be heard. Confirm the intended track exists and is not silent. If there are multiple tracks, determine which one contains the Hindi speech; language metadata or a track label alone may be misleading.
- Check FFmpeg’s selection and output. Identify the actual audio stream index, map that stream explicitly, and verify the resulting output header and local capture contain audio.
- Read YouTube’s specific warning. Match its wording to the protocol and configuration you are using. The warning can distinguish absent or multiple audio streams, an unsupported codec, bitrate, sample rate, channel configuration, or a primary/backup mismatch.
- Compare local and remote playback. If the local FFmpeg output is healthy but viewers hear silence or dropouts, check the routed audio sources, encoder errors, CPU load, outbound network, and YouTube stream metrics. YouTube advises checking outbound internet when the stream looks and sounds healthy in the encoder (YouTube live-stream troubleshooting).
Select the Hindi track explicitly
FFmpeg’s -map options control which input streams are sent to an output. Once you specify mappings, automatic stream selection does not add other streams to that output. A wrong or missing audio map can therefore produce video without the intended speech track (FFmpeg advanced options).
Use this as a diagnostic pattern, not a command to copy with an assumed index:

ffmpeg -i input.mp4 -map 0:v:0 -map 0:a:<index> ... output
Replace <index> with the audio index established by inspecting the input. The mapping selects the track; it does not by itself determine how that track is encoded. Avoid -map 0:a unless you have confirmed that every audio stream in the input should be sent. YouTube warns that multiple audio streams can cause ingestion problems (YouTube live-stream errors).

Verify the result before changing more settings
- Check FFmpeg’s output header to confirm the intended audio stream is present.
- Listen to a local output capture spanning the time of the reported dropout.
- If the source is silent or the wrong track is selected, correct the source or map before investigating YouTube ingest.
- If the selected track is present locally but YouTube reports an ingest error, use that exact warning to guide the next change.
Check audio encoding against YouTube’s warning
For YouTube’s documented RTMP configuration, H.264 video and AAC audio are the standard target. Its error guidance identifies unsupported audio codecs, absent or multiple audio streams, bitrate, sample rate, channel configuration, and other ingest problems. The error page recommends 128 Kbps audio and identifies 44.1 kHz in its listed sample-rate messages (YouTube live-stream errors). The YouTube API health reference recommends 44.1 kHz or 48 kHz and one or two audio channels, and flags codec, bitrate, sample-rate, and primary/backup mismatches (YouTube Live API stream health).
These are diagnostic targets, not proof that any one setting caused this dropout. Use the actual dashboard warning and the current guidance for your ingest protocol before changing the encoder. Do not apply RTMP assumptions automatically to HLS: YouTube’s HLS documentation lists AAC, AC3, and EAC3 audio (YouTube HLS ingest).

Separate a track problem from a 24/7 output failure
A stream that fails after running for a long time may have an output, network, or queue problem rather than a missing audio map. FFmpeg’s FIFO pseudo-muxer can retry a failed network output. Its queue-overflow option can instead drop packets so encoding continues, but dropped packets mean omitted stream content; it is not a safe fix for an audio track that was never selected (FFmpeg FIFO muxer).
Investigate FIFO or other recovery settings only when the logs show output failures or queue errors. Preserve a local capture and note the time of each event so you can compare it with YouTube’s health timeline. Avoid enabling packet dropping casually: it can conceal a continuing output problem while leaving gaps in the stream.

Troubleshoot by symptom
| What you find | Likely area to investigate | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| The input has no audible Hindi speech at the affected time | Source recording or source-track routing | Check the original file and how its audio was recorded or selected before changing YouTube settings. |
| The input has Hindi speech, but the output header or local capture has no audio | FFmpeg stream mapping or output configuration | Inspect the input stream list, explicitly map the intended audio index, and verify the output again. |
| The local output has audio, while YouTube reports an audio ingest warning | Codec, stream count, bitrate, sample rate, channels, or protocol-specific settings | Follow the exact Live Control Room message and the applicable RTMP or HLS guidance. |
| The local output sounds healthy, but remote viewers report a problem | Outbound network, routed sources, encoder load, or remote ingest | Check encoder logs, CPU load, outbound network health, and YouTube stream metrics. |
| Audio drops at the same time as output or queue errors | Long-running output or network failure | Investigate the logged failure and recovery behavior; do not use packet dropping as a substitute for fixing a missing track. |
What to include when asking for help
The exact cause remains uncertain until the failure can be located in the chain. Share the following with stream keys and other secrets removed:
- FFmpeg version and the complete redacted command.
- The input
ffprobestream listing and which audio track contains Hindi speech. - FFmpeg output headers and logs surrounding the dropout.
- Whether a local output capture has the speech at the affected time.
- Whether the stream uses RTMP or HLS.
- The timestamp and exact text of YouTube’s Live Control Room health warning.
This evidence helps distinguish a source or mapping correction from audio re-encoding or resampling, an output-recovery issue, or a network and ingest investigation.
