If audio starts in sync with the picture and then gradually falls behind or moves ahead, a fixed OBS Sync Offset is unlikely to fix the underlying problem. First establish whether the drift is already present in OBS or a local recording, then check audio sample-rate consistency and the affected source’s timing. Treat YouTube stream health, network conditions and OBS performance as separate checks—not proof of a single cause.
First identify which kind of sync problem you have
“Out of sync” can describe different symptoms. Note what happens at the start of the loop and whether the gap changes over time.
| What you observe | What it suggests | First useful check |
|---|---|---|
| Audio and picture have about the same offset throughout | A constant sync offset | Use a sync cue to measure the stable difference; then consider a source-specific Sync Offset. |
| They start aligned but separate progressively | Gradual drift | Compare a local recording with YouTube playback; check sample rates and the relevant source’s timing. |
| The stream reaches viewers late, but speech and action remain aligned | Live-stream latency, not necessarily sync drift | Review latency mode, buffering and network conditions. |
| Choppiness, dropped frames, overload notices or disconnections occur too | A performance or connection issue may coexist | Review YouTube stream-health messages and OBS performance and connection indicators. |
Write down how long the stream runs before the mismatch becomes noticeable and whether audio moves ahead of or behind the picture. A symptom description narrows the investigation; by itself, it does not identify the cause.
Reproduce the drift and locate where it begins
Make a representative test
Use a private or unlisted YouTube test stream, or a local recording, and let it run long enough for the problem to appear. Put a clear sync cue near the beginning and another later—for example, a visible clap or slate paired with an audible click. Compare the cues rather than relying on memory.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
YouTube recommends testing with audio and video motion similar to the real event before going live, and monitoring stream health while live. A test that is much shorter or less demanding than the actual loop may not reveal an intermittent or slowly developing fault.
Compare OBS, a local recording and YouTube playback
- If the OBS preview and local recording both drift, investigate the computer, software, source routing and capture-device path first.
- If the local recording stays in sync but YouTube playback drifts, check stream health, network or ingest behavior and playback conditions before blaming a physical audio device.
- If only one audio source is affected, focus on that source and its route rather than changing every audio device at once.
These comparisons help localize the problem, but none alone proves its precise cause.
Check audio sample rates for consistency
Inspect the rate selected in OBS and the formats selected or supported by the audio devices involved, such as a microphone, capture card or audio interface, as well as the operating system. Keep participating sources consistent at a supported rate. Google’s Live Streaming API documentation lists 44.1 kHz and 48 kHz as recommended audio sample rates and flags a sample-rate mismatch between primary and backup streams as a configuration issue. Neither rate is a guaranteed cure for every drift problem.

- If you send primary and backup feeds, verify their sample-rate settings match.
- Change one relevant setting at a time, then repeat the same duration test and compare the sync cues.
- Record the rates used by OBS and each relevant device; this helps distinguish a rate mismatch from other timing issues.
Test device timestamps only on the implicated source
OBS documents a Windows-only “Use Device Timestamps” property for audio input and output capture. It attempts to use timing information from the audio device to prevent desynchronization and is off by default. Whether changing it helps depends on the source and device, so do not toggle it universally.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
- In OBS, open the properties for the audio capture source implicated by your comparisons.
- If the “Use Device Timestamps” control is available, test its current setting and the alternative setting.
- Repeat the same test for the same length of time and compare the beginning and later sync cues.
- Keep the setting that produces the more consistent result for that source, or restore the original setting if neither improves it.
Change only that variable during the test. If the option is unavailable, do not assume a different setting elsewhere has the same effect.
Use Sync Offset only for a stable, repeatable delay
OBS’s Advanced Audio Properties Sync Offset is a calibration tool for audio that is consistently early or late relative to the picture. If the mismatch grows as the loop runs, adding a fixed offset changes the starting alignment but does not correct an underlying timing difference that continues to accumulate.

When the delay is stable, measure it with a sync cue and adjust the relevant source’s offset in Advanced Audio Properties. Do not copy a millisecond value from a tutorial or another creator: the right adjustment depends on the device and signal path. AVerMedia’s example workflow applies to a specific capture-device setup, not all OBS configurations.
Check YouTube stream health, OBS performance and the connection separately
YouTube stream health
Run a test representative of the real loop and monitor YouTube’s stream-health messages. Configuration warnings can point to problems that need attention. A clean health dashboard does not, on its own, establish why audio gradually drifts.
OBS performance
OBS notes that GPU overload can affect rendering and encoding performance. If the output is choppy or OBS reports overload, reduce system or rendering demands and repeat the test. This is a worthwhile performance check, but an overload indicator alone does not prove it caused progressive audio drift.

Network and ingest
OBS associates dropped frames and intermittent disconnections with the network path to the ingest server or available bitrate capacity. If these appear, investigate connection stability and the bitrate the connection can sustain. They can coexist with sync symptoms without necessarily explaining them.
Do not mistake latency for drift
YouTube defines live-stream latency as the time between camera capture and viewer playback. Lower latency uses less read-ahead buffer, which can make viewers more sensitive to issues between the encoder and player; network congestion can delay a stream. That is different from audio progressively moving relative to the picture.
YouTube Help describes latency below 10 seconds for most viewers on low-latency streams and below five seconds for most viewers on ultra-low-latency streams. Those figures describe latency, not the prevalence or severity of audio-sync errors. YouTube also says low- and ultra-low-latency modes do not support 4K resolution. Changing latency mode is therefore not a general fix for gradual audio drift.

Keep a useful record if the problem persists
Before asking OBS, device or platform support for help, collect information from one representative reproduction:
- OBS version and operating system.
- OBS audio sample rate and the rate selected for each relevant device.
- Microphone, capture-card or interface model, plus the source routing used.
- Whether device timestamps are enabled for the affected source.
- Whether OBS preview, a local recording and YouTube playback each drift.
- How long the test ran before drift appeared, and whether audio moved ahead of or behind the picture.
- An OBS log from the reproduction.
This evidence can make troubleshooting more specific. Avoid replacing a capture card, interface or other hardware until testing points to a fault or incompatibility.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your 24/7 YouTube loop is currently being sent from OBS on a computer at home, StreamNeo is a different way to run that uploaded-video loop: upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It does not fix a sync problem already present in a recording, but it removes the need to keep your computer and home connection running the loop.
- Nothing has to stay on at home; the loop runs from the cloud.
- Uploaded video streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot.
- Automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream.
- The first day is free with no card.
The monthly option is $9.99 per month. StreamNeo is for YouTube streams made from uploaded videos, not camera-based live capture. Start your free first day with StreamNeo.
