A free scan shows the junk files, broken settings and background clutter dragging Windows down - then fixes them in one click.Free scan · Windows 10 & 11First identify what “not working” means: the app will not open, it opens but cannot connect or load music, playback advances without sound, or only certain tracks fail. Check Apple’s service status and your internet connection before resetting the app; each symptom points to a different troubleshooting path.
Identify the problem before changing settings
Choose the closest symptom and start with its matching checks:
- Apple Music will not open: confirm that the installed app is the current Apple Music app, then update it and try Windows’ Repair option.
- The app opens but cannot connect, load content, or download: check Apple service status and internet access before investigating the PC’s network settings.
- The progress bar moves but there is no sound: check Apple Music’s volume, Windows’ output volume, and the connected audio equipment.
- Only one song or a few songs fail: check whether the issue relates to a purchase authorization, file format, or song preview.
These symptoms do not have a single universal cause. Apple’s general connection advice covers access to Apple services, while its Windows music guide covers sound and track-specific playback issues.
Make sure you have the right Windows app
The dedicated Apple Music app for Windows is distributed through Microsoft Store. Apple describes it as the app for listening to and managing music, including music in your library and iTunes Store purchases. Apple uses iTunes separately on Windows for podcasts and audiobooks; iTunes may also be used when a PC does not meet the system requirements for Apple’s dedicated apps. Store availability and features can vary by country or region.

If Microsoft Store cannot find or install Apple Music
Store listings and installation can be affected by country or region, family settings, device compatibility, Store authorization, or a pending restart after a recent Windows update. Microsoft recommends resetting the Store cache as one troubleshooting step:
- Press Windows key + R.
- Type
wsreset.exeand select OK. - When Microsoft Store opens, search for Apple Music again.
For a Store download or account-management problem that remains unresolved, use Microsoft’s app-installation guidance.

If Apple Music will not connect or load content
Work from the least disruptive checks toward changes to the PC. Apple’s connection guidance applies to Apple services generally; it is not a Windows-only diagnostic for Apple Music.
- Check Apple System Status. Look for an outage affecting the relevant service and your country or region. If a problem has just started, an outage may not yet be reflected, so try again later if the other checks pass.
- Confirm internet access. Open a website in a browser. If possible, check whether another device on the same network can get online.
- Separate a PC issue from a network-wide issue. If other devices connect but this PC does not, check whether a VPN or third-party security software is interfering. If no devices on the network connect, restart the Wi-Fi router; if access still fails, contact your internet provider.
- Check basic system conditions. Install available software updates and make sure the PC’s date and time are correct.
- Try another network, if available. If Apple Music works there, the original network may be the source of the problem.

Update, repair, then reset the app
Install Apple app updates
For current Apple apps on Windows, including Apple Music, check for updates through Microsoft Store. Some older Apple Windows installations, including some Windows-on-Mac setups, may use Apple Software Update instead. Apple explains both cases in its Windows software update guidance.
Use Windows 11 app recovery
After checking for updates, try Repair before Reset. The controls are not available for every app, and neither option is guaranteed to resolve every Apple Music problem.

If only certain songs will not play
Track-specific failures can have causes that do not explain an app-wide launch or connection problem:
- Purchase authorization: Apple says certain non-iTunes Plus iTunes Store purchases can play on up to five authorized computers. If the limit has been reached, another computer may need to be deauthorized before the song can play on a sixth.
- AAC file source: Apple notes that AAC files not created using Apple Music or downloaded from the iTunes Store may not play in Apple Music.
- Preview in a playlist: If a playlist stops after a song preview, select the next song to resume the rest of the playlist.
These cases are relevant when a particular track or playlist behaves differently from the rest of the app. Apple’s playback troubleshooting page provides the related Windows guidance.
When to contact support
If the issue remains after checking Apple service status and connectivity, installing available updates, and trying the app recovery options that Windows provides, contact Apple Support. Include the exact symptom—such as failure to launch, inability to load content, silent playback, or a specific track that will not play—and any error message. For an issue limited to finding, installing, or managing the app in Microsoft Store, use Microsoft’s Store support guidance.
