Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?
Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minutePC Slower Than It Used to Be?

A public-IP change alone is not established as the cause: the broadband reconnection may briefly interrupt the active connection. Broadcasters should check encoder and upload health; listeners should test playback on another device or connection.
First identify whether you are broadcasting or listening
The fixes differ because the connection paths differ. A broadcaster’s encoder sends a feed outbound to YouTube Live. A listener’s device receives playback from YouTube. YouTube warns that a connectivity disruption can break a live stream, but that does not establish that a changed public IP, by itself, caused a particular drop. Note the exact time of the incident and whether the broadband connection itself disconnected.
- If you run the radio channel: check the encoder’s connection, YouTube Live Control Room stream health and outbound upload stability.
- If you were watching or listening: test playback on another device and internet connection, then check local Wi-Fi and the broadband link.
Fix a broadcaster-side drop
1. Record what failed
At the next drop, note the time, encoder error or status, any Live Control Room health notice, whether other internet services also stopped working, and whether the encoder resumed sending automatically. Check whether the streaming computer still has internet access. These observations help distinguish an encoder problem from a wider broadband interruption.
2. Check encoder output and stream health
Look at the encoder’s sending status and YouTube’s stream-health information. If the encoder is still sending and appears healthy, investigate the outbound connection. If the local encoder output is unhealthy, check the encoder software version, CPU load, audio and video inputs, and whether a local recording is being created. YouTube recommends preparing and testing the encoder in advance; its streaming tips also include checking a local archive.

3. Test upload capacity and stability
Download speed is not enough to diagnose a broadcast: the encoder needs reliable outbound upload. YouTube notes that inbound bandwidth is often greater than outbound and advises leaving upload headroom. Its streaming tips recommend 20% room and say to account for both primary and backup stream bitrate. Compare the encoder’s total bitrate with the upload capacity available during the stream, not just a download-speed result.

Repeat an outbound connection test and note whether upload is inconsistent or the connection drops. If testing reveals internet problems, contact your ISP with the test results and incident times. Ask whether the IP change coincides with a brief WAN disconnect or broadband-session reconnection. The available YouTube guidance does not establish how a particular Indian ISP handles address changes.
4. Use Ethernet to isolate Wi-Fi
If practical, connect the encoder computer directly to the router by Ethernet and repeat a controlled test. This removes Wi-Fi range or interference as a variable. It will not prevent a drop if the router loses its upstream ISP connection during a broadband reconnection or address change.

5. Test failover before an important broadcast
If you have a backup encoder configured, test it before relying on it. YouTube suggests stopping the primary encoder or unplugging its Ethernet cable and confirming that playback moves to the backup. Do not deliberately interrupt an important live broadcast to test recovery. Follow YouTube’s live streaming tips for preparation and failover guidance.
6. Reset the stream key only for a key-related symptom
A stream key is the configuration credential the encoder uses to send the feed to YouTube. YouTube’s reset guidance applies to encoder start errors or key problems; it is not documented as a fix for a public-IP change. If YouTube reports a key or encoder-start error, follow its troubleshooting steps, reset the key if indicated, and update the encoder’s saved key. You can also review Manage live stream settings.

If you are a listener, troubleshoot playback instead
A listener cannot repair the broadcaster’s encoder-to-YouTube connection. Test the same stream on another device or internet connection, and check whether other YouTube videos or online services also stall.
- If playback fails only on one device using Wi-Fi, check router range and interference, and reduce competing network use. YouTube’s computer playback troubleshooting covers viewer-side checks.
- If several devices lose playback when broadband reconnects, note the time and contact the ISP. Explain whether other services also disconnected.
- If other YouTube videos play normally but one radio stream does not, the issue may be specific to that stream; report it to the channel rather than changing your stream key or encoder settings.
What not to assume about IP changes
The official YouTube guidance supports checking connectivity when a stream breaks; it does not say that changing a public IP by itself causes a YouTube Live session to drop, or guarantee that a static IP, dynamic DNS, VPN, or router upgrade will keep an encoder session alive. A wired connection can rule out Wi-Fi, but it cannot preserve a session interrupted upstream. Use the timestamps, encoder status and stream-health information to establish what failed, then ask your ISP whether a WAN disconnect coincided with the address change.
