First determine what is out of sync: the sound against the picture, or the whole YouTube broadcast against a separate radio feed or real-world event. Those are different problems. If only one viewer is affected, start with their device and connection; if many viewers on different connections report the same issue, check the stream source, encoder, and outbound connection.
Identify which kind of delay you are hearing
For a radio-style YouTube stream with a still image or visualizer, “out of sync” can mean either the audio arrives late relative to the image, or both audio and image arrive late relative to another broadcast. YouTube calls the second issue live latency: the time between an event being captured by the encoder or camera and being shown to a viewer. Audio and picture being misaligned inside a video is a separate source or playback problem.
- Sound and picture do not match: Check whether the mismatch occurs on one device or across devices, and whether it is present in a local recording or the original uploaded file.
- The whole YouTube stream is behind: Compare it with a reliable separate feed. The audio and picture may be synchronized with each other even though the broadcast arrives later.
For a radio stream with a static image, a viewer may notice that the program is behind a terrestrial radio station even though the YouTube audio matches its visualizer. Don’t treat that as an audio/video sync fault until you have established which timing is wrong.
Fix a problem affecting one viewer
Change one variable at a time so you can tell whether the fault follows the connection, device, or stream. YouTube’s playback troubleshooting guidance recommends these checks for lagging, buffering, and related viewing problems.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Try another connection. Switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data, if available. Mobile data charges may apply. If the stream works on one connection but not the other, investigate the connection that fails.
- Choose a different playback quality. If the YouTube player offers quality controls, select a different quality and see whether playback stabilizes.
- Restart the app or browser and device. Close and reopen YouTube, restart the device, and install any available YouTube app or system updates.
- Clear the app cache where supported. On applicable mobile devices, use the device’s app settings to clear YouTube’s cache.
- Try another supported device. If the problem occurs on multiple streaming services on the same device, consult the device manufacturer’s support resources.
If the problem persists on different devices and independent connections, a fault isolated to one viewer’s playback setup becomes less likely. YouTube’s guidance for computer playback issues is at Troubleshoot streaming & video issues.
When the whole live stream is behind
Live latency is the capture-to-viewer delay, not necessarily a mismatch between audio and picture. A stream can be internally synchronized and still arrive later than a separate broadcast. YouTube explains that “Lower latency may mean more playback buffering.” Lower latency leaves viewers less read-ahead buffer, so playback may be more responsive but more vulnerable to interruptions; congestion and other factors can also delay a stream.

A non-interactive radio stream usually has little need for ultra-low latency. If a viewer is watching through a YouTube TV context that provides a Broadcast Delay setting, YouTube’s TV instructions describe “Decrease” and “Default”: decreasing delay reduces buffer and can raise the risk of interruptions, while default favors fewer playback interruptions. This is not a universal control for every YouTube live stream; confirm that it applies to the viewer’s exact TV setup before looking for it.

If you run the YouTube radio stream
Use the number and distribution of reports to decide where to look. One person’s playback problem and a stream-wide fault need different investigations.
One viewer reports a problem
YouTube says a problem reported by a single viewer is likely to be with that viewer’s computer or internet connection. Ask them to try another device or connection and describe what they did. Avoid changing the encoder before establishing that other viewers can reproduce the fault.

Several viewers on the same connection report it
Look at that shared network’s health and capacity. A common connection can be the point of failure even when viewers are using different devices.
Viewers on different connections report it
Investigate the source and delivery path: check the encoder output or live preview, stream-health messages, CPU load, audio and video routing, and an available local archive. If the encoder output and local recording look healthy but viewers still report a problem, check outbound internet capacity and contact the ISP if the connection itself appears faulty. Keep encoder software current.

YouTube recommends enough upload capacity for the total streaming bitrate, with 20% bandwidth room. Treat this as YouTube’s preparation guidance, not as a measured guarantee that a stream will be free of delay or sync errors. Test under representative conditions and monitor audio and video quality during the event. YouTube advises testing with audio and movement like those planned for the stream, then reviewing stream health while live. See Troubleshoot your YouTube live stream, Streaming tips, and Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions. These checks can help locate a source, encoder, or network issue; none alone proves the cause of a viewer’s audio delay.

If the issue is in a video you uploaded rather than in a live broadcast, check the audio and video track durations in the source edit. YouTube’s upload troubleshooting guidance says the track durations should match. If they do not, repair the edit in video-editing software and upload the corrected file; a viewer’s broadcast-delay control will not fix a mismatch already present in the uploaded source. See Troubleshoot audio or video issues with uploads on YouTube.
