The quickest route is to tap the sound name on the TikTok video, then use Shazam or Google’s Search a song feature if TikTok only shows Original sound or an unhelpful label. If recognition fails, search distinctive lyrics, read the caption and comments, and check whether the clip is a remix, dialogue recording, sound effect, or removed audio.
Start with TikTok’s sound page
While the video is playing, look near the bottom for the sound title or the usual rotating-disc icon. Interface placement and wording can vary by app version, account, country, and device. Tap it to open the sound page.

A sound page may show a named song and artist, an Original sound – username label, a shortened user-created name, or a generic title. It can also list other videos using the same audio and identify the creator who uploaded the sound. TikTok explains its sound-library workflow in its Using sounds help section and sound-library guide.
The page is the best first check because it preserves the link between the video and its audio. However, a username attached to Original sound is normally the uploader or sound owner on TikTok, not proof that the person performed the underlying song.

Use Shazam while TikTok plays
Apple’s Shazam documentation says Shazam can identify music playing in another app, including TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram. It is strongest when the clip contains a recognizable commercial recording rather than speech or effects.
On the same iPhone or iPad
- Start the TikTok video at its clearest chorus or hook.
- Open Shazam, or use Music Recognition in Control Center if you have added that control.
- Let it listen for several seconds, then open the result.
- Compare the displayed title, artist, vocalist, and recording with the TikTok clip.

On Android
Open Shazam while the video plays, or use the notification-bar or Quick Settings options offered by your phone. The official Android listing advertises identification from apps such as TikTok, but features and availability vary by device and country: Shazam on Google Play.

When TikTok is on another device
- Play TikTok on a computer, tablet, or second phone.
- Run Shazam on the identifying phone.
- Use a section without narration, clapping, or other competing sounds.
- Check whether the result is the exact recording or only the underlying song.
Shazam can miss clips that are too short, distorted, heavily sped up or slowed, pitch-shifted, reversed, mixed with speech, unreleased, or absent from its catalog. A mashup may produce one component—or no result.

iPhone and iPad
- Open the Google app.
- Tap the microphone in the search bar.
- Choose Search a song.
- Play the TikTok audio, or hum, whistle, or sing the melody.
- Compare the suggested matches with the clip.

Android
- Open the Google app and tap the microphone.
- Tap Search a song.
- Play the audio or hum the melody.
- Review and compare the possible matches.
Android devices may also offer Circle to Search, Quick Settings, a home-screen shortcut, or Gemini, but these entry points are device-dependent. See Google’s Android instructions.
Replay the actual recording whenever possible. Humming is useful when the TikTok is unavailable, but it returns potential matches rather than a guaranteed identification and is less suitable for dialogue, effects, or complex mashups.

When TikTok says “Original sound”
Original sound does not establish that the audio is original music. It may be a creator’s recording, a video containing someone else’s song, a copied clip, a remix, a sample, or audio TikTok could not map to an official library entry.
- Open the Original sound page.
- Read the creator’s caption and video description.
- Search comments for identification requests and answers.
- Run Shazam on the cleanest musical passage.
- Try Google Song Search.
- Ask the creator directly if the source remains unclear.
If no song is present, the audio may be speech, a sound effect, or creator-made material rather than a commercially released track. Community answers are leads, not proof.

Write down one unusual line exactly as heard and search it in quotation marks. Add terms such as lyrics, TikTok song, sped up, slowed, remix, cover, or sample. Try alternate spellings and search only the distinctive phrase, not an entire verse.

Lyric searches can outperform fingerprinting when narration covers the music, the clip is a live or cover performance, or the recording is too short. Misheard lyrics and user-generated lyric pages are common sources of error, so confirm the match through the TikTok sound page, an artist or label page, or a reputable music service.
Separate the song from the TikTok version
Identification tools may recognize the underlying song even when TikTok uses a sped-up, slowed-and-reverb, pitch-shifted, nightcore, remix, live, acoustic, or mashup version.
- Match the vocalist and lyrics.
- Compare runtime and release details with the identified recording.
- Search the title with
TikTok edit,sped up,slowed, orremix. - Inspect TikTok’s sound page for the exact upload.
- Prefer an official release over an unrelated user upload when verifying the version.
Call it the exact TikTok version only when the sound page or recording evidence supports that conclusion.

Identify audio from TikTok on a computer
The most dependable desktop method is to play TikTok in a browser and let Shazam run on a phone. Speakers can also feed the audio to a second device. Searching the visible sound title, caption, or a distinctive lyric is another option.
Browser-recognition extensions may work, but permissions, browser support, operating-system audio routing, and TikTok restrictions vary. Do not assume every browser can capture its own tab audio.
What to do when a sound is removed or a video is muted
TikTok says sounds can be removed for copyright or Community Guidelines reasons. A muted video may still contain identifiable music in a saved copy or repost, but its original metadata may be gone. TikTok’s documented workflow for a creator’s own muted post is open the video → View details → review the reason → Change sound; this does not guarantee that viewers can recover a removed sound. - Check the creator’s other posts and linked platforms.
- Read captions and comments for credits.
- Use an authorized saved or screen-recorded copy with Shazam or Google.
- Search a distinctive lyric or ask the creator.
Avoid unauthorized downloading tools or attempts to circumvent copyright controls.

Verify before accepting the result
- Do the lyrics and vocalist match what you heard?
- Is the result the same recording, or merely the same composition?
- Does the TikTok sound page identify a remix, cover, edit, or mashup?
- Can an official artist, label, or music-service listing confirm the title?
- Does the result explain the audible section rather than only a background fragment?
When every tool fails, the most likely explanations are an unreleased track, an obscure creator recording, a heavily transformed edit, a short or noisy sample, dialogue, an effect, or incorrect TikTok attribution. In those cases, the creator and commenters may be the only people able to identify the source.
