Before you book or travel, check the individual screening’s date, time, venue, language or subtitles, ticket availability and any conditions on the live listing. IDFA 2026 is scheduled for November 12–22 in Amsterdam, and ticket-sale dates differ by event and audience.
Where to search the IDFA programme
The IDFA Search page is the official starting point for discovering films and other festival content. Use its search field to look for a film title, filmmaker or programme item, then open a relevant result to check its screening details. The page also links to programme-related areas including Film, Festival, Program and News.
If you are looking for an earlier edition rather than a current screening, use the archive linked from Search. IDFA describes it as a place to explore films, interactive projects, award winners, filmmakers and talks from previous editions. An archived title can help you learn about past festival content, but it is not a current screening listing.
Search by title, person or programme
- You know the film: Search its title, then open the film’s result and look for the screening or screenings you could attend.
- You know the filmmaker: Search the filmmaker’s name to find relevant programme content, then inspect each film listing for its available events.
- You are browsing: Explore the programme-related areas on the Search page, or use the archive if you want to investigate earlier editions.
Search results and programme pages are dynamic. Treat a saved link or copied schedule as a starting point, not as confirmation that a screening is still available. Reopen the current listing when you are ready to make plans.

Keep the distinction between a film page and a screening event in mind. A film page helps you identify the title and its programme context; an individual screening listing is where you confirm the event you might attend. If a result leads to several events, compare those events separately rather than assuming the information for one applies to all the others. The Search page also reaches festival material beyond film screenings, so check that the result is actually the programme item you mean before proceeding.
How to verify a particular screening
A film title alone is not enough to plan a visit: the same film may have more than one event, and the details that matter are attached to the individual screening. Open the current listing and check the following before choosing one:
- Date and start time: Make sure the event fits your schedule; do not assume that every screening of the same film happens on the same day or at the same time.
- Venue: Check the listed location and consider the journey from your starting point and between other festival events.
- Language and subtitles: Look for the information relevant to your needs. If you are relying on English speech or subtitles, confirm that the particular screening or programme provides them.
- Event type and conditions: Check whether the listing is for a regular screening, a special event or a DocLab programme. Rates and rules can differ.
- Ticket status: Confirm that tickets are on sale and available for the exact event you intend to attend.
- Access arrangements: Check the festival’s accessibility information and contact IDFA about the specific screening and venue if you need an arrangement.
When comparing two screenings of one film, compare these details event by event rather than selecting solely by title. A screening at a more convenient time may be at a different venue, have different ticket availability or fall under different event conditions.
A useful comparison checklist
For two possible events, make a short side-by-side comparison using the details on each current listing. Start with date and time, then venue: a suitable time may not be practical if the location creates a difficult journey or conflicts with another festival event. Next compare the language or subtitle information and any accessibility details relevant to you. Finally, compare event type, ticket status and the price or discount conditions shown through IDFA’s official ticket information.
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →This order helps avoid a common planning mistake: choosing a screening because the film title is right, then discovering that the event is at a different venue, not yet on sale, or subject to different conditions. Availability and prices can change, so perform the comparison close to booking and use the live listing rather than a copied timetable as the final reference.
When tickets go on sale for IDFA 2026
IDFA’s key festival dates for general audiences lists different sale windows for different events and audiences. As of October 13, 2026, the published schedule is:
| Event or audience | Published ticket-sale timing |
|---|---|
| Selected Specials | Already on sale as of October 13, 2026 |
| Further Specials, including IDFA Hits and IDFA Junior | October 14, 2026 |
| Friends, guests and VriendenLoterij VIP cardholders | October 26, 2026 |
| General ticket sales | October 28, 2026 |
These are the dates published on the key-dates page, not a guarantee that every event follows the same window or remains available afterward. Check the current ticket-sales page and the listing for your chosen event to confirm its sale status. If a screening is not yet bookable, its sale window may not have opened; check the official dates rather than relying on an old schedule.

- Say goodbye to batteries: Keep your remote powered for months on a single charge.
The sequence matters if you are planning around a particular programme. Selected Specials were already on sale on October 13; the next listed release, on October 14, covers further Specials including IDFA Hits and IDFA Junior. The October 26 window is identified for Friends, guests and VriendenLoterij VIP cardholders, while general ticket sales are listed for October 28. These audience-specific dates should not be treated as interchangeable. If you belong to one of the named groups, check the terms on IDFA’s current pages; if not, use the general-sale date as the relevant published milestone and confirm the exact event listing.

Recheck it when the applicable sales window opens and before making travel plans.
Ticket prices, discounts and exchanges
IDFA’s ticket-sales page lists a regular-screening price of €13.50 and a student-ticket price of €8. Some Specials and DocLab programmes have different rates or rules. The student price is not a universal discount: check the festival’s Help Desk guidance for eligibility and conditions, and confirm the final price for your event during the official purchase process.
| Ticket or event type | Published price or rule | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Regular screening | €13.50 listed on IDFA’s ticket-sales page | Confirm that the event is a regular screening and verify the price for its listing. |
| Student ticket | €8 listed on IDFA’s ticket-sales page | Check the Help Desk’s current eligibility and discount conditions before relying on this rate. |
| Some Specials and DocLab programmes | Different rates or rules may apply; no single price is stated for all such events. | Use the event listing and ticket-sales page for the applicable rate and conditions. |
Use the event type, not just the film title, to work out which price information is relevant. A regular screening price cannot safely be assumed for a Special or DocLab programme. Likewise, a listed student rate only helps if you meet the stated eligibility requirements. The official Help Desk and ticket-sales pages are the places to verify discount conditions; the checkout for the specific event is where you should confirm the final price before completing a purchase.
IDFA says exchange requests can be made up to 24 hours before a screening, while tickets are not generally refundable. Read the Help Desk’s conditions before buying if your plans may change. An exchange request is not the same as a refund, and the stated window should not be treated as an assurance that every request or ticket type qualifies.
In practical terms, do not buy on the assumption that you can simply get your money back if your schedule changes. Check the exchange guidance before purchase, note the 24-hour request deadline, and confirm whether the ticket and circumstances are covered by the applicable conditions. The general statement that tickets are not refundable is important when comparing two screening times: choose the event you can realistically attend rather than relying on a later cancellation.
Accessibility and practical arrangements
Wheelchair access
IDFA’s practical information asks attendees seeking wheelchair access to purchase a ticket and then email the festival with the screening title, time and venue so staff can discuss arrangements. Check the Help Desk and contact IDFA about the particular event before you travel; access arrangements may depend on the screening and venue.

Have the specific screening details at hand when you contact the festival: the title alone is not enough, because staff need the time and venue as well. The published guidance says to purchase a ticket first and then email those details to discuss arrangements. Confirm any practical arrangements directly with IDFA instead of assuming that access information for one venue or event applies to another screening of the same film.
Sensory-friendly screenings and subtitles
The Help Desk also mentions sensory-friendly screenings and some films with Dutch and English subtitles for Deaf and hard-of-hearing audiences. These are not established as features of every screening. Check the specific listing and the festival’s accessibility information to see what is available for the event you are considering.
For language access, distinguish between a film’s general information and what is specified for the event or programme you plan to attend. The Best of IDFA article, for example, says the films in those particular full-day programmes are spoken in English or subtitled in English; it does not establish that all festival films use English. For sensory-friendly arrangements or Dutch and English subtitles for Deaf and hard-of-hearing audiences, verify the applicable event rather than generalizing from the festival-wide offer.
Buying tickets in person during the festival
The Help Desk says tickets are also sold in person during the festival at the box office at Pathé Tuschinski (Café Abraham), November 12–22, between 10:00 and 21:00. Check the current Help Desk details before depending on this option, and do not assume that an in-person visit guarantees availability for a particular screening.
This box-office option is a practical alternative to online purchase during the festival dates, but it does not remove the need to check the event listing. A screening may have limited availability, and the listed box-office hours do not promise that a specific ticket will remain available. Confirm the current information with IDFA before making a special trip to buy in person.
Choose a curated day instead of searching film by film
If you would rather start with a selection than choose individual titles, IDFA’s August 31, 2026 article, “Enjoy the Best of IDFA programs,” describes full-day Best of IDFA programmes made up of four films. The 2026 article lists Audience Favorites and Award Winners at Pathé Noord on November 20, 21 and 22. It says films in these programmes are spoken in English or subtitled in English.

- Open IDFA Search and search by film title, filmmaker or programme item.
- Open the relevant result and identify the particular screening you want; use the archive only when you are looking for an earlier edition.
- Check that screening’s date, time, venue, language or subtitles, event type, ticket status and accessibility information.
- Consult the key-dates page if tickets are not yet on sale, then recheck the live listing when the relevant window arrives.
- Review the ticket-sales page and Help Desk for price, discount, exchange and practical conditions; confirm the final price and availability for your chosen event.
- For access arrangements, contact IDFA with the screening title, time and venue. Recheck the listing and practical information close to your visit.
Keep the steps in order: find the programme item, choose a particular event, verify its details, then check its sale status and terms. This avoids treating a film page, an archive entry or a ticket-sale date as proof that a chosen screening is currently bookable. If you are comparing events, repeat the event-level checks for each one, even when the film is the same.

Can I get a refund or exchange an IDFA ticket?

How do I arrange wheelchair access?
IDFA’s guidance says to purchase a ticket, then email the screening title, time and venue so staff can discuss arrangements. Contact the festival about the particular event and venue before your visit.
Does every IDFA film have English subtitles or sensory-friendly screenings?
No such general guarantee is stated. The Help Desk mentions sensory-friendly screenings and some films with Dutch and English subtitles for Deaf and hard-of-hearing audiences. Check the particular screening’s listing and accessibility information. English speech or subtitles are specifically noted for films in the 2026 Best of IDFA programmes.

The Help Desk lists in-person ticket sales at the box office at Pathé Tuschinski (Café Abraham) from November 12–22, 10:00–21:00. Check the current Help Desk details and screening availability; an in-person visit does not guarantee a ticket for a particular event.
What is the Best of IDFA programme?
IDFA’s August 31, 2026 article describes full-day programmes of four films: Audience Favorites and Award Winners, listed at Pathé Noord on November 20, 21 and 22.
