Start with a urologist; an andrologist is also an appropriate clinician to ask about penile augmentation, according to the Urology Care Foundation. Look for someone who will assess your individual concern, explain what the evidence does and does not show, and discuss risks and alternatives before proposing a procedure. A clinic’s advertising or a treatment label alone does not establish that its claims are reliable.

Which specialist should you contact?

Start with a urologist

A urologist is the clearest starting point for questions about penis size, enlargement, or related sexual symptoms. The Urology Care Foundation advises people considering penile augmentation to speak with a urologist or andrologist. That recommendation is a starting point, not a guarantee that every clinician who uses one of those titles has the same experience or approach.

When contacting a clinic, explain that you want an evaluation and an evidence-based discussion of your concern—not just information about a product or procedure. Ask whether the clinician personally evaluates penis-size concerns and male sexual or reproductive health. If a staff member cannot answer, ask to speak with the clinician or someone who can explain what the first visit involves.

When an andrologist may be an option

The Urology Care Foundation names an andrologist as an alternative specialist to consult. If you find one, ask about their experience evaluating concerns like yours and whether they can assess relevant medical or sexual-health issues. If the clinician does not handle a part of the evaluation, ask who would be appropriate to involve.

The guidance available here does not establish a special credential, membership, or marketing designation that proves a clinician is qualified to perform enlargement procedures. Judge the consultation by the evaluation and discussion you receive, not by a title alone.

How to compare clinicians

There is no formal ranking rubric in the cited guidance, so focus on practical signs of a careful consultation. A clinician should be willing to hear what prompted your concern, take relevant medical and sexual history, explain any assessment they recommend, and connect their advice to your situation. They should also be able to discuss uncertainty, risks, and alternatives without implying that a particular result is guaranteed.

Ask how the clinician will handle questions outside their scope. A thoughtful answer might include involving another clinician or arranging mental-health counseling if appropriate. A referral is not a sign that your concern is being dismissed; it can be part of a complete evaluation. Conversely, a polished website, procedure-specific marketing label, or confident promise is not proof by itself that a provider is the right fit.

What a useful first consultation should cover

Your concern and relevant history

A meaningful assessment begins with your specific reason for seeking help. Be ready to explain what prompted the concern, what outcome you hope for, and whether you have had previous treatments or procedures. Mention relevant medical history and any sexual symptoms. These details help the clinician consider whether the concern is about size itself, another health issue, sexual function, or more than one factor.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

You can also describe how long the concern has been present and whether it has changed. These are useful topics to raise as part of your history, not a test you have to pass or a substitute for a clinician’s assessment. If you have used a product or device, name it and describe how you used it; that information may help the clinician discuss possible effects and next steps.

Assessment before a treatment recommendation

The European Association of Urology (EAU) guideline recommends taking a comprehensive medical and sexual history. For a complaint involving short size, it recommends stretched penile measurement as part of the assessment. Ask the clinician to explain what they will assess, how any measurement will be taken, and how the result relates to your concern. A treatment recommendation made without first understanding your situation deserves careful questioning.

Measurement is one part of an evaluation, not a promise that a procedure is appropriate or a result can be predicted from a single number. Ask what the clinician is trying to clarify with the measurement and how it will inform the discussion. If you do not understand a term or finding, ask for it to be explained in plain language before moving on to treatment options.

There is no measurement or assessment method in the guidance summarized here that a reader can use at home to determine which procedure is appropriate. Let a clinician explain the assessment in context rather than relying on an online comparison or a number taken without clinical guidance.

Psychological factors may be relevant

Size-related distress can require more than a physical assessment. The EAU advises screening for body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) when the penis is normal-sized; if BDD is suspected, it recommends mental-health counseling. This is a reason to ask about psychological support without treating the concern as imaginary or dismissing it. A clinician should be able to explain why they recommend screening or a referral and how that fits into your care.

A screening conversation is not the same as a diagnosis. If a clinician raises BDD or counseling, you can ask what led them to suggest it, what the next step would involve, and how physical and emotional aspects of your concern will both be addressed. If you feel that your concern has been brushed aside, ask for an explanation or another opinion rather than assuming that screening means no one will consider your physical health.

How to judge a clinician’s advice

Look for an individualized explanation

A useful clinician connects the evaluation to the options being discussed. They should be willing to explain what is known, what remains uncertain, and why a proposed approach might or might not fit your circumstances. The Urology Care Foundation and EAU guidance emphasize consultation, evaluation, and counseling rather than treating a general advertisement as evidence that a method is appropriate for an individual.

Ask for the reasoning in plain language. If you cannot tell what problem the proposed treatment is meant to address, how success would be judged, or what could go wrong, pause before agreeing to it.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Useful follow-up questions include whether the recommendation is intended to address a medical need or a cosmetic goal, what evidence supports it, and what limitations remain. Ask the clinician to explain how the risks and expected benefits apply to you rather than relying on general claims about what “patients” experience. If a treatment is described as medically necessary, ask what condition makes it necessary and what could happen if you choose not to have it.

Expect a balanced discussion of risks and alternatives

The EAU recommends extensive counseling about risks and benefits for girth-enhancement procedures. A responsible discussion should also address alternatives, uncertainties, and what happens if you decide not to proceed. Ask the clinician to distinguish an established medical indication from a cosmetic goal and to explain any side effects that matter for your situation.

The Urology Care Foundation’s patient guidance notes that erectile dysfunction can occur after surgery. That does not mean every procedure has the same risk, but it makes it important to ask specifically about sexual-function effects rather than discussing appearance alone.

Ask what complications the clinician considers possible for the specific procedure being proposed, how they would be managed, and whether there are long-term effects to consider. The sources discussed here do not provide a full complication rate or a cost comparison for individual procedures, so do not treat a generic estimate or reassurance as a complete answer. Request a clear explanation of what is known for the option being offered and what remains uncertain.

Be cautious of certainty and pressure

Take time to consider a recommendation, especially if a clinic presents a procedure as guaranteed, minimizes complications, or urges you to commit before explaining the assessment. A confident sales pitch is not a substitute for a medical history, appropriate examination or measurement, and a discussion of uncertainty. You can ask for time to think or seek another qualified opinion before making an elective decision.

Be wary if a consultation focuses mainly on selling a package, offers claims that sound certain without explaining evidence, or skips questions about your health and goals. A clinician should be willing to explain why a treatment may not be suitable, not only why you might choose it. You do not need to agree to a procedure during the first visit, and a decision to wait or decline is a valid outcome of counseling.

What the guidance says about promoted treatments

Pills, creams, and stretching products

The Urology Care Foundation’s patient page, updated in July 2024, says that almost none of the advertised penis pills, creams, stretchers, or stretching devices work. Do not treat a product’s availability, testimonials, or marketing language as proof of effectiveness. The guidance does not say that every possible medical treatment is inappropriate: it notes that clinicians may consider treatment when it is medically necessary, while taking side effects into account.

If a clinician or seller recommends a pill, cream, stretcher, or stretching device, ask what evidence supports that particular product and whether it is intended to address a medical condition or a cosmetic concern. The patient guidance does not identify a consumer product that readers need to buy, and the professional guidance here does not endorse a specific device, book, or manual. Avoid treating a product purchase as a substitute for an evaluation when you have a health concern.

Procedures that have not been shown safe or effective

The American Urological Association (AUA) and Urology Care Foundation state that subcutaneous fat injection to increase penile girth has not been shown to be safe or efficacious. They also state that division of the suspensory ligament in adults to increase length has not been shown safe or efficacious. The AUA page lists a Board reaffirmation date of October 2018, so ask a clinician to explain the current evidence and how it applies to the specific procedure being offered.

These are specific statements about fat injection for girth and suspensory-ligament division in adults for length. They should not be blurred into a claim that all procedures are identical. If either is proposed, ask the clinician to address the AUA and Urology Care Foundation position directly, explain why they believe the approach is appropriate in your case, and describe the risks and uncertainties. If the explanation is unclear or dismissive, consider another opinion.

Approaches the EAU advises against

The EAU guideline advises against using silicone, paraffin, or petroleum jelly for penile enlargement. It also advises against grafts, biodegradable scaffolds, and the subcutaneous penile implant described in the guideline as experimental. If a clinician proposes one of these approaches, ask them to address the guideline recommendation directly and explain the risks, evidence, and rationale for their advice.

The recommendation matters even if a clinic describes a material or technique with a reassuring-sounding name. Ask exactly what substance, implant, graft, or scaffold would be used, what evidence supports the proposed approach, and what the clinician understands the guideline to say. Do not assume that a new label changes the underlying method or removes the need to discuss risks.

  • Compact without compromises: Our sleek design won’t block neighboring HDMI ports, so you can switch from streaming to gaming with ease. Plus, it’s designed to stay hidden behind your TV, keeping wires neatly out of sight

These statements do not establish that every treatment under discussion is identical or that no medical care can ever be appropriate. They do mean you should ask for a clear, individualized explanation rather than accepting a claim of safety or effectiveness without scrutiny.

Prepare for the appointment

Bring the details that help the clinician assess your concern

  • What prompted you to seek help and what outcome you are hoping for.
  • Relevant medical history and any sexual symptoms.
  • Any prior treatment, procedure, or product use related to the concern.
  • Questions about what you understand to be the benefits, risks, and limits of a proposed option.

You do not need to arrive with a preferred procedure. It is reasonable to make the first goal of the visit understanding the concern and the available options.

If you are nervous, write down your main concern and questions ahead of time. You can take notes during the visit so that you can consider the clinician’s explanation later. The goal is not to persuade the clinician to offer a particular treatment; it is to make sure you understand the assessment, the options, and the reasoning behind any recommendation.

Questions to ask

  • What evaluation do you recommend for my specific concern?
  • How will you measure or otherwise assess it, and what will the findings mean?
  • What evidence supports the treatment you are proposing, and what uncertainties remain?
  • What risks, complications, and alternatives should I consider?
  • Could a medical condition, sexual-function issue, or psychological concern be contributing?
  • If you do not provide part of the evaluation or care I may need, who should I speak with?
  • Is the proposed care intended to treat a medical need, a cosmetic concern, or both?
  • What would it mean to wait or decide not to proceed?

These questions reflect the evaluation and counseling issues raised in the EAU and Urology Care Foundation guidance; they are prompts for a discussion, not a substitute for a clinician’s individual assessment.

When to seek another opinion

Consider another consultation if you leave without understanding what was assessed, how the recommendation follows from that assessment, or what the meaningful risks and alternatives are. A second opinion can also help if the recommendation involves a procedure that the AUA or EAU guidance cautions against and the clinician has not explained that conflict.

When comparing clinicians, focus on whether they have relevant experience with male sexual or reproductive health, conduct a careful evaluation, explain evidence and uncertainty clearly, discuss risks and alternatives, and can arrange mental-health support when appropriate. The guidance summarized here does not provide a formal ranking system or establish that a particular membership or marketing label alone proves qualification.

You can use the first consultation to decide whether you trust the clinician’s process, even if you do not yet decide about treatment. If a clinician is unwilling to answer reasonable questions, does not explain the evaluation, or presses you to commit before you understand the proposal, it is sensible to pause. A second opinion should be another chance to discuss your concern and the evidence, not simply a search for someone who promises the result you want.

How to make the decision

Separate three questions before deciding on any treatment: what concern is being evaluated, what the clinical assessment shows, and what options have a reasonable evidence-and-risk explanation for your situation. If those links are unclear, ask for clarification rather than moving directly from concern to procedure. The aim of a consultation is an informed decision, which may include declining a cosmetic procedure or seeking another form of care.

The cited guidance comes from U.S. patient information and AUA material alongside EAU guidance. It does not supply country-specific instructions for checking clinician licensing, nor does it establish that local rules, availability, or professional titles are identical everywhere. Confirm credentials through the relevant local health system or regulator where you live, and ask the clinician which guidance and standards apply to your care.

The Urology Care Foundation patient page was updated in July 2024, and the AUA page lists Board reaffirmation in October 2018. Those dates identify the versions reflected here; they are not a substitute for asking a clinician what guidance currently applies. The EAU recommendation should likewise be discussed in the context of the guideline version relevant to your care.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I find a qualified urologist for penis enlargement questions?

Start with a urologist, or an andrologist, as the Urology Care Foundation advises. Ask about experience with male sexual or reproductive health and look for a clinician who takes a medical and sexual history, explains any assessment, and discusses evidence, uncertainty, risks, and alternatives. A title or marketing label alone does not establish qualification.

Should I see a urologist or an andrologist about penis size?

The Urology Care Foundation names both a urologist and an andrologist as clinicians to consult about penile augmentation. Choose someone who will evaluate your individual concern and can involve another clinician or mental-health professional if needed.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What happens during an evaluation for a short-size concern?

The EAU guideline recommends a comprehensive medical and sexual history and stretched penile measurement for short-size assessment. Ask the clinician what they will assess and how the findings relate to your concern; the guidance does not provide a home measurement method for choosing a procedure.

What should I ask before agreeing to an enlargement procedure?

Ask what problem the treatment is intended to address, what evidence supports it, what uncertainties and risks remain, what alternatives exist, and what happens if you wait or decline. For girth procedures, the EAU recommends extensive counseling about risks and benefits.

Are enlargement pills, creams, or stretching devices effective?

The Urology Care Foundation’s patient page, updated July 2024, says almost none of the advertised penis pills, creams, stretchers, or stretching devices work. Its guidance does not identify a specific consumer product readers need to buy.

Can distress about penis size involve psychological factors?

Yes. The EAU advises screening for body dysmorphic disorder when the penis is normal-sized and recommends mental-health counseling if BDD is suspected. Screening is not the same as a diagnosis, and you can ask how it fits into your care.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

The Bottom Line

Start with a urologist or andrologist who will assess your specific concern, explain the evidence and uncertainties, and discuss risks and alternatives without pressure. A careful consultation may include medical and sexual history, stretched measurement for a short-size complaint, and psychological screening when appropriate. Do not treat advertising, a procedure label, or a promised result as proof; ask questions, take time, and seek another opinion if the reasoning is unclear.
