The supplied title’s “Sita | Rama” wording is not explained by that listing, so this guide focuses on the verified outline-writing topic rather than assuming the module concerns those characters.
What does it mean to expand an outline?
An outline organizes a central idea into major topics, subtopics, and supporting details. Expanding it means developing those planned points with relevant information and evidence—not simply adding more words or unsupported claims.
For example, a short outline might name a main point and one subtopic but offer no evidence. An expanded outline adds notes that explain or support the subtopic, while keeping each note beneath the point it belongs to. The resulting structure gives the writer a clearer plan for a composition.

How primary and secondary sources differ
A source’s role depends on its relationship to the subject being studied. A primary source provides firsthand or original material; a secondary source discusses, interprets, or reports on primary material. The same kind of item can function differently depending on context.

A practical method for expanding an outline
- Write the central idea and the outline’s main points. Keep the structure focused on the composition’s subject.
- Mark points that need support. Identify where a reader would need an explanation, example, fact, or other evidence to understand or evaluate a claim.
- Gather notes from both source types. Label each note as primary or secondary, and record enough bibliographic information to identify the source later.
- Match each note to an outline point. Place it under the specific topic or subtopic it supports. If it does not clearly support any point, do not add it merely to make the outline longer.
- Check the notes before drafting. Make sure each is relevant, accurately represents its source, and contributes something useful to the point.
- Use the expanded outline to write the composition. Turn the organized points and notes into connected prose, acknowledging sources in the form your teacher or assignment requires.
How to decide where a note belongs
Ask what claim or explanation the note helps support. A firsthand account may give evidence about an event, while a secondary source may help explain how that evidence has been interpreted. Keep the note beside the outline point it actually supports, and avoid treating a source’s category as a substitute for checking its content.
- Relevant: It addresses the point rather than merely sharing the broad topic.
- Accurate: It preserves what the source says and does not overstate the evidence.
- Traceable: Your notes retain enough information to identify and acknowledge the source.
- Useful: It clarifies, explains, or supports the outline point instead of repeating another note.
The Grade 8 resource and what its listing establishes
The DepEd Learning Portal lists the resource under English, Grade 8, Quarter 4, Module 2, with the title “Expanding the Content of an Outline Using Notes from Primary and Secondary Sources.” The portal presents it as one of six modules in a self-learning bundle for educators and learners. Its listing gives a publication date of August 25, 2022, identifies the download as a 7.15 MB ZIP, names the Department of Education as copyright owner, and states the use condition “Use, Copy, Print.”
