YouTube does not specify a separate bitrate or codec for Malayalam: clear speech depends on the source audio and careful listening tests, not a language-specific encoding setting.
Choose a loop source in OBS
Loop one video
- In OBS, add a Media Source to the scene and select Local File.
- Choose the video file and enable Loop. OBS restarts the file when playback completes.
- Review Restart playback when source becomes active and Show nothing when playback ends if you switch scenes or need specific end-of-file behavior.
OBS lists MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF and WebM among supported video formats. See the OBS Media Sources guide.
Loop a playlist
- Add a VLC Video source and add the files to its playlist.
- Enable or confirm Loop Playlist, which OBS enables by default.
- Install VLC if needed. The OBS guide specifies 64-bit VLC when using 64-bit OBS.
Media Source is the simpler choice for a single local file; VLC Video adds playlist support but requires VLC.
Set YouTube-compatible video encoding
Start with the resolution and frame rate of the source rather than upscaling a lower-resolution video just to select a larger output. YouTube’s recommended H.264 bitrate ranges are broad; choose a rate the actual upload connection can sustain reliably, then check stream health. These are YouTube platform recommendations, not guarantees of image quality or Malayalam speech clarity.

The figures are YouTube’s published encoder recommendations, accessed in 2026. They apply to the stated H.264 resolution and frame-rate combinations; do not reuse them blindly for AV1 or HEVC. Check YouTube’s live encoder settings for the relevant codec and output combination.
- Use CBR (constant bitrate).
- Set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds; YouTube says not to exceed 4 seconds.
- Use progressive scan, square pixels and Rec. 709 for SDR.
- YouTube supports RTMP/RTMPS ingest and recommends RTMPS. Its documented video codecs include H.264, HEVC and AV1.
- YouTube supports up to 60 fps. Keep OBS’s output compatible with the file and your available upload capacity.
For standard stereo audio, YouTube supports AAC or MP3 and recommends 44.1 kHz at 128 kbps. OBS’s overview guide explains output resolution, frame rate and bitrate controls; it advises testing the complete setup and notes that bitrate depends on upload speed and service limits.

Make the Malayalam speech easier to understand
Apply filters to the audio source carrying the video’s sound. In OBS, open that source’s Filters and use a filter only when it addresses an audible problem. Compare the result with the unfiltered audio; stacking filters by default can make speech worse. The OBS Filters Guide describes the available processing.
Steady, mild background noise
Try Noise Suppression for mild fan or white noise. OBS describes RNNoise as higher quality but more CPU-intensive than Speex. Strong Speex suppression may distort voice, and noise suppression is generally ineffective in a very loud room. Listen to an actual Malayalam speech segment with the filter on and off. Uneven speech volume or occasional loud peaks
A Compressor reduces material above its threshold; output gain can bring the average level back up. It can help when occasional peaks stand out from normal speech, but its default settings are not guaranteed to suit your recording. OBS places the compressor near the beginning of a filter chain.
Noise between phrases
An Expander can reduce low-level background sound between spoken phrases. Set its threshold carefully: if it is too aggressive, it can cut off quieter words or syllables. OBS places it after compression or other effects and before a limiter.

Prevent clipping
A Limiter constrains peaks to help prevent clipping and distortion. Put it last in the filter chain, as OBS recommends.
These filters address noise, loudness and peaks; they do not establish a way to restore intelligibility lost in a source that is already muffled, distorted, clipped or masked. If speech is unclear before streaming, inspect or re-render the source audio rather than applying stronger suppression blindly.

Test the loop and the full stream before relying on it
- Play a representative speech section and confirm the video’s audio track is audible. Check that desktop audio is not unintentionally doubling it.
- Record locally or run a test stream with audio and movement similar to the intended stream. YouTube recommends testing under similar conditions and monitoring stream health.
- Listen on headphones and a phone or small speaker. Check word intelligibility, clipping, audio-video sync and whether the limiter leaves the voice at a useful level. Watch OBS’s audio meters for peaks.
- Check the file’s end and restart: listen for a gap, black frame or cut-off word at the loop boundary.
- Monitor YouTube stream health and confirm the upload connection can sustain the chosen bitrate.
Troubleshoot common problems
- The video stops at the end: Confirm Loop is enabled on Media Source, or Loop Playlist on VLC Video.
- The playlist source is unavailable: Install VLC and match its architecture to OBS; 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC according to OBS’s guide.
- The stream is unstable: Lower the video bitrate to a level the upload connection can sustain, verify the selected resolution and frame rate, and check YouTube stream health.
- Speech sounds watery or distorted: Reduce or disable noise suppression and compare the result with the original. Strong suppression can distort voice.
- Quiet syllables disappear: Ease the expander threshold or bypass the expander; an overly aggressive setting can cut off speech.
- Speech clips or sounds harsh at peaks: Check the source level and use a limiter last in the chain. A limiter constrains peaks; it does not repair distortion already present in the file.
- Speech remains unclear with filters off: Check the original audio and re-render it if necessary. OBS filters cannot be assumed to restore information missing from the source.
