To enable YouTube live streaming, open YouTube Studio on a computer and go to Settings → Channel → Feature eligibility (shown in some guidance as Features). Complete phone verification if prompted, then allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation. Your channel must also have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Going live from the mobile app has an additional 50-subscriber requirement.
Enable live streaming in YouTube Studio
- Open the eligibility page. On a computer, sign in to YouTube Studio. Select Settings → Channel → Feature eligibility and review which features are available or require verification. YouTube’s feature guide describes the route as Settings → Channel → Features; labels may vary. YouTube’s feature eligibility guidance explains the checks.
- Verify your channel by phone if required. Choose the phone-verification option and follow the prompts. YouTube lists live streaming among the features available after phone verification.
- Start or request live-streaming access. Follow any live-streaming prompt shown on the eligibility page. For a first activation, allow up to 24 hours before expecting the option to appear; access may not be immediate after verification. YouTube’s live-streaming requirements describe this wait.
- Check the channel’s standing. YouTube requires no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. If a restriction applies, changing a normal settings option will not remove it.
Once access is available, choose a way to broadcast: YouTube’s mobile option is for a phone or tablet, webcam is for a computer webcam, and encoder is for broadcast software or a more involved production setup. The activation steps above do not require you to choose equipment first. YouTube’s computer live-streaming tips cover the available approaches.
Check the requirements for your device and account
- Age: You must be at least 16 to live stream.
- Recent restrictions: The channel must have no live-streaming restrictions in the last 90 days.
- First-time access: Activation can take up to 24 hours.
- Mobile app: In addition to the general channel requirements, mobile live streaming requires at least 50 subscribers and a supported phone or tablet. This subscriber threshold applies to the mobile app path, not the basic phone-verification step. See YouTube’s mobile live-streaming requirements.
If the Go Live option is still missing
- Verification is incomplete: Return to the feature eligibility page and check whether phone verification is still requested. Complete the prompts for the channel you intend to use.
- You verified recently: If this is the first activation, wait up to 24 hours, then check the page again.
- You are trying to stream from a phone: Check the 50-subscriber minimum and the device requirements. A channel may have access to live streaming generally but not meet the mobile-app requirements.
- The channel has a restriction: Read the notice shown in Studio. A settings change does not override an active live-streaming restriction.
- The page still shows no explanation: Use the eligibility status and the specific account notice as the authoritative clues for your channel. Public help states general requirements but cannot identify the reason for an individual account’s status. If the channel appears to meet the published requirements and remains blocked after the activation window, use YouTube’s official feedback option or Creator Support if your account is eligible.
