Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteTo enable YouTube live streaming for the first time, sign in to the channel you want to use, verify that it meets YouTube’s eligibility requirements, then open YouTube Studio and select Create → Go live. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours. You can prepare your stream during that wait, but you may not be able to start it until activation is complete.
Check that your channel is eligible
YouTube’s general live-streaming requirements include a verified channel, no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days, and a creator who is at least 16 years old. Check the channel that will actually host the broadcast: eligibility on another channel does not enable this one. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance.
Mobile streaming has an additional requirement: at least 50 subscribers. That threshold applies to streaming from the YouTube mobile app, not to every way of going live. YouTube may also apply audience or feature limitations to mobile streams; follow the prompts shown for your channel. Details are in YouTube’s mobile live-streaming instructions.
Enable live streaming
- Sign in to the correct channel. Confirm its verification and eligibility before scheduling an important broadcast.
- Open YouTube Studio on a computer. Select Create → Go live, then follow the setup prompts. You can also start from the YouTube app’s create/live flow if you intend to stream from a mobile device. Interface labels may change; use the current prompts YouTube displays.
- Complete any requested verification or setup. For a first-time activation, allow up to 24 hours. YouTube says that after live streaming has been enabled, a stream can go live instantly; see its encoder setup guidance.
- Choose a streaming method. Pick the route that suits your device and the kind of broadcast you plan to make.
- Run a test before an event. YouTube recommends trying a test stream. You can choose public or unlisted visibility before the stream begins; check the selected audience and visibility settings carefully.
Choose how to stream
| Method | Best suited to | What you need to know |
|---|---|---|
| Mobile | Quick broadcasts from a phone or tablet | Requires the YouTube app and at least 50 subscribers, as well as the general eligibility requirements. |
| Webcam | A straightforward broadcast from a computer | Requires a computer with a webcam. You do not need to buy a separate camera if you already have suitable equipment. |
| Encoder | Gameplay, screen sharing, overlays, or a more involved audio/video setup | Use YouTube Live Control Room’s stream settings to obtain a stream key, then enter it in your encoder. |
| Game console | Streaming supported gameplay directly from a console | Follow the console-specific setup instructions for your device. |
YouTube describes these options and recommends testing in its live-streaming tips. Expensive equipment is not necessary just to get started: choose a method based on what you already have and what you need the broadcast to show.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Set up an encoder safely
- In YouTube Studio, open Live Control Room and select the stream setup option to view the stream settings.
- Copy the stream key provided by YouTube into the matching stream-key field in your encoder. YouTube describes the key as the credential that lets the encoder send its feed to the channel.
- Keep the key private. Treat it like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your stream. If it is exposed, use YouTube’s current stream settings to replace or reset it before broadcasting.
- Start with a test stream and confirm that the picture, sound, and visibility are correct before sharing the event with viewers.
For the available stream controls and current labels, see Manage live stream settings. The setup information here does not specify universal bitrate, resolution, or keyframe values: use the recommendations shown for your encoder and the requirements YouTube presents for the selected stream.
Plan what you can broadcast
Having live access does not grant permission to use someone else’s video, music, or other protected material. Use content you own or are authorized to broadcast, and follow YouTube’s applicable content rules; a live-streaming restriction can prevent you from going live. Check your planned material and the channel’s eligibility before a scheduled event rather than treating activation as clearance for any content.

- You are trying to stream from a phone: check the mobile-specific 50-subscriber minimum and the prompts in the YouTube app.
- An encoder is not sending video: confirm that its stream key matches the one currently shown in YouTube Live Control Room, and that the encoder is using the intended stream settings.
- You are preparing for an important broadcast: test ahead of time and check visibility, picture, sound, and the content you plan to use.
