YouTube documents these controls for live streams generally; it does not describe a separate 24/7 setting.
Set up automatic mid-roll ads in YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and select Create → Go live.
- Start a stream from the Stream tab, or schedule one from Manage.
- At the top of the Live Control Room, select Edit → Monetization.
- Set monetization to On.
- Under live ad settings, select Automatic (recommended).
- Choose Low, Medium, or High frequency according to how much ad activity you want to allow.
YouTube says automatic mode selects natural breakpoints for mid-rolls. Viewers may receive ads at different times, and an available ad slot does not guarantee that an ad will run. See YouTube’s live-stream monetization instructions.
Choose the live ad mode that fits your stream

These are settings for ad opportunities, not guaranteed delivery. YouTube may not serve an ad in an available slot, and viewers can see ads at different times. If an ad does not run, the viewer continues watching; viewers who skip or finish an ad rejoin the live stream. Details are in YouTube’s explanation of how ads work on live streams.
Manage interruptions during important moments
Automatic live ad settings include measures intended to limit disruption for channel members, temporarily pause mid-rolls for viewers sending gifts, Super Chats, or Stickers, and snooze ads for all viewers during high-engagement moments. In the Live Control Room, Delay ads postpones automatic mid-rolls for 10 minutes. A five-second countdown appears before ads resume. This delay does not stop mid-rolls you insert manually.

Check monetization eligibility and revenue expectations
Ad serving depends on the channel being monetized and monetization being enabled for that stream. YouTube says pre-roll and display ads turn on automatically when stream monetization is enabled; the creator chooses automatic, scheduled, or manual settings for mid-rolls. For live-stream Watch Page ad and YouTube Premium revenue, creators must accept the Watch Page Monetization Module. See YouTube’s monetization options.
YouTube Help reports that channels choosing live automatic mid-rolls saw, on average, over 20% uplift in instream ad revenue per hour compared with channels that did not. YouTube says this comparison was measured in January 2024 across 207 countries. It is an average comparison, not a forecast or promise for an individual channel or stream.

What enabling ads does—and does not—mean for a 24/7 stream
The ad controls configure monetization for a livestream, but YouTube’s live ad instructions do not establish a maximum stream duration, a restart cadence, or a guarantee of uninterrupted 24/7 operation. Treat ad setup and continuous-stream reliability as separate questions, and confirm that the relevant controls are available in the stream’s Live Control Room.
Automatic mid-rolls are configured in YouTube Studio; they do not require a physical product. YouTube mentions the Elgato Stream Deck with its YouTube plugin for inserting ads, but that is an option for manual control, not a requirement for automatic placement.
