You can download Netflix movies and shows for offline viewing in the Netflix app on supported Android and Apple phones and tablets, Amazon Fire tablets, and Chromebooks with the Google Play Store. Open a title and look for the Downloads icon: if it appears, choose Download for a movie or the download control beside an episode. Windows computers, TVs, streaming devices, and game consoles do not support Netflix downloads, even if they can stream Netflix.
How do I download Netflix movies to watch offline?
- Check the device. Use the Netflix app on a supported phone, tablet, or Chromebook. The platform requirements are listed below.
- Find a downloadable title. In the Netflix app, browse or search for a movie or show. A Downloads icon on the title page or beside an episode indicates that it can be saved. On mobile, you can also browse the See What You Can Download area.
- Save it. Select Download for a movie, or the download control beside an episode. If offered, choose Download Season to save a season.
- Play it later. Open Downloads in the app and select the saved title. Netflix recommends downloading over Wi-Fi to reduce mobile data use.
Netflix downloads remain on the device used to save them, and you must stay signed in to access them offline. Netflix says downloads may expire; some titles also have an annual limit on how often they can be downloaded again. Canceling your Netflix account removes downloads from your device. Reinstalling the app or clearing its data can also remove saved titles in the troubleshooting situations Netflix describes. See Netflix’s download instructions.
Which devices support Netflix downloads?

Can I download Netflix shows on my laptop?
Windows laptops
No. Netflix’s current troubleshooting guidance says downloads are unavailable on Windows devices. Installing the Windows Netflix app does not change that; use a supported phone, tablet, or Chromebook for offline viewing instead. Netflix download troubleshooting
Chromebooks
A Chromebook can download Netflix titles if it has the Google Play Store and can run the Netflix app. Check for the Play Store on the device; a Chromebook that only accesses Netflix in a browser should not be assumed to support downloads. Netflix download troubleshooting

Why can’t I download a movie on Netflix?
The title may not be licensed for downloads
A movie or show can stream without being available to download. Netflix says download rights may be unavailable because another company holds exclusive rights, a content provider has not made download rights available, or factors such as popularity, cost, seasonality, or localization affect availability. Some Netflix-branded originals are produced with studios that retain franchise or intellectual-property rights, so streaming rights do not necessarily include download rights. Availability can vary by region and change over time. If the Downloads icon is missing, that title is not currently offered for download in your circumstances. The device or app may not be compatible
Confirm that you are using the Netflix app on a supported device, check the relevant operating-system requirement, and update the app and device software. On a Fire tablet, Netflix specifies Fire OS 7 or later; on a Chromebook, the Google Play Store is required. You may have reached a plan limit
Netflix’s Help Center guidance accessed in 2026 states that ad-free plans allow up to 100 active downloads per device, subject to the number of devices included in the member’s plan. Ad-supported plans allow 15 total downloads per device per calendar month; Netflix says that monthly limit resets on the first day of each calendar month. These are download limits, not streaming limits. Netflix’s automatic Downloads for You feature is unavailable on ad-supported plans. Open the Netflix app on the same device you used to save the titles, then go to Downloads and choose a title to play. Downloads are not transfers between devices, and you must remain signed in to watch them offline. If a saved title is missing, check whether it expired and whether the app was reinstalled or its data cleared; those actions can remove downloads.
