What you need to download Hulu videos
- An eligible Hulu subscription. Check Hulu’s current plan details because eligibility can change; a subscription does not make every title downloadable.
- A supported iPhone, iPad, Android phone or tablet, or other currently compatible mobile device, with the Hulu app installed and updated.
- Enough free device storage and an internet connection for the initial download. Wi-Fi is the practical choice for downloading several episodes.
Hulu’s plan and content pages associate downloads with eligible ad-free offerings and certain bundles, but confirm your account’s current eligibility at Hulu’s plan page and in Hulu’s download help.
How to download a movie or episode in the Hulu app
- Connect your mobile device to Wi-Fi if possible, then update Hulu through its official app store.
- Open Hulu and sign in to the eligible account.
- Search for a movie or series and open its details page. A download arrow indicates that a title or episode is available to download; not every title has one.
- Tap the download icon. For a series, download the episodes you want individually, or use any season or episode download controls currently shown in the app.
- Wait for the download to finish, then open the app’s Downloads area and play the item from there.
Download controls and their placement can change with app updates. Hulu’s guide to managing downloads covers the current in-app workflow. The downloaded video is app-managed; it will not appear as an ordinary video in Files, Photos, or a computer’s media library.
Which devices can store Hulu downloads?
Hulu streaming support is broader than its offline-download support. Being able to stream Hulu on a device does not mean that device can store downloads.

Download limits and how long downloads last
The Disney+ Help Center states that Hulu content may be limited to 25 downloads across five supported mobile devices at a time. That limit is stated by Disney+’s help page, not as a permanent guarantee for every Hulu account. Hulu’s subscriber agreement says download counts and availability periods can vary by content and service tier and may change.

Downloads are temporary, not owned copies. They may stop working when an offline period ends, a title’s licensing changes, the subscription becomes inactive or ineligible, or the app or device needs to verify account access online. Hulu announced historical timing rules of up to 30 days of availability and, after playback began, a two-day viewing window; those figures should not be assumed to describe every current download. Check Hulu’s current app and terms rather than planning around those older windows.
Before a flight or other stretch without internet, download the items you need, confirm they appear in Downloads, and open Hulu once online. Reconnect periodically so the app can refresh account and title access. Availability may also vary by location, so test downloads before international travel.

Manage storage and failed downloads
If your phone or tablet is low on space, remove downloads you have finished watching before adding more. If Hulu currently exposes a quality control in your app, a lower setting can conserve storage; do not assume that Disney+’s quality labels or controls match Hulu’s. Check device storage and use Wi-Fi for a batch of downloads.
When a download fails, try this sequence:
- Check that the device has a stable connection and enough free storage.
- Cancel the failed item and try again; test another title to see whether the issue is title-specific.
- Delete unneeded downloads if you may have reached an account or device limit.
- Update Hulu and the device operating system, then close and reopen the app or restart the device.
- Reconnect to the internet and sign in if Hulu needs to verify account access. Contact Hulu support if several titles that show a download icon continue to fail.
Why the download button may be missing
- The title is not available for download. Rights differ by title; try another title with a download icon.
- Your plan may not qualify. Verify current eligibility in your account and Hulu’s plan information.
- The device or app may not be supported or current. Update the app and check Hulu’s device guidance.
- You may have reached a limit or run short of storage. Remove old downloads and free local space.
- The account may need an online check, or availability may differ by region. Connect to the internet and reopen Hulu.
If a completed download will not play offline, reconnect, open Hulu, and check Downloads for an expiration or renewal option. If the title is still available, deleting it and downloading it again may help. Signing out can remove local downloads, so avoid doing so before a trip unless needed to troubleshoot.

Can you download Hulu videos to a computer or TV?
Hulu’s official offline-download workflow is for supported mobile devices. Hulu’s computer and TV streaming support does not mean you can download from Hulu.com or save a video to a laptop, Roku, smart TV, or console. A mobile download stays within Hulu on the authorized device; it is not a way to transfer a movie to a USB drive or another player.
Hulu downloads are not Cloud DVR recordings
A download is a temporary copy held in the mobile app for offline playback. Hulu + Live TV’s Cloud DVR records eligible live programming to Hulu’s service for later streaming; it is not an offline download or an exportable file. Hulu says DVR recordings can be stored for up to nine months, subject to the plan and service terms. See Hulu + Live TV for current details.

Are third-party Hulu downloaders a good alternative?
A site or app promising unrestricted Hulu MP4 files is not Hulu’s official offline feature. Such tools may violate service terms, attempt to bypass technical protections, expose your account credentials, or stop working after a service change. Use Hulu’s own app rather than giving account details to an unverified downloader. Hulu’s subscriber agreement governs access to its content and its temporary downloads; it does not grant a general right to extract or redistribute videos.
