To create a YouTube end screen, open the video in YouTube Studio, go to Editor → End screen, add relevant elements, set their timing and placement, preview, and save. A well-matched next video or playlist and a specific call to action give viewers a clear next step—but YouTube publishes no guaranteed click lift or universal best-performing layout.
What YouTube end screens can do
An end screen is a set of clickable elements shown during the final 5–20 seconds of a video. The video must be at least 25 seconds long. A standard 16:9 video can have up to four elements; other aspect ratios may allow fewer. YouTube may suppress some interactive features while the end screen is displayed.
Available elements include a video, playlist, subscription prompt, channel promotion, and—if you are an eligible YouTube Partner Program participant—an external website link. There is no universal ranking of these options: choose based on the next action that best serves the viewer.
| Viewer’s likely next step | Element to consider |
|---|---|
| Continue with a closely related topic | A specific video |
| Explore a sequence or collection | A playlist |
| Follow the channel | Subscription prompt or channel promotion |
| Visit an external site | External website link, if eligible for it |
Plan the ending before editing
Choose one useful destination
Pick a video or playlist that continues the subject or answers the next question raised by the current video. YouTube’s guidance is: “Feature elements that are relevant to the video.” A destination that fits the viewer’s current interest is easier to explain than a generic request to click.

Make room for the end screen
Reserve visual space and enough time in the final 20 seconds for the elements and your call to action. If you are editing the video itself, avoid placing important on-screen information where end-screen elements will cover it. You do not need graphic-design software: Studio can arrange the elements. If you use custom imagery, YouTube recommends an image of at least 300 Ă— 300 pixels.
Write a specific call to action
Tell viewers what they will get by selecting the element—for example, the next installment or a playlist that covers the topic in order. Match the spoken or on-screen prompt to the actual destination. YouTube recommends calls to action, but its guidance does not establish that a particular wording or placement causes a set increase in clicks.

- Check the result: Preview the ending to check that the elements are visible and do not obscure important content.
- Save: Select Save when the layout and timing are ready.
YouTube Studio’s labels or navigation may vary as its updated experience rolls out. YouTube says the updated Studio experience began rolling out gradually in July 2026; if your screen differs, look for the video’s Editor and its End screen control.

Use the report to compare elements and comparable videos or periods, rather than treating a small difference as proof that one layout caused more clicks. YouTube does not publish a universal end-screen click benchmark or a controlled effect size. This is also different from thumbnail impression click-through rate: that metric concerns thumbnail impressions, and YouTube notes it varies by content, audience, and where an impression appeared.
Know when end screens may not appear
- The video must be at least 25 seconds long, and the end screen can occupy only the final 5–20 seconds.
- End screens are unavailable on videos set as made for kids.
- Viewers cannot see end screens in YouTube Music or YouTube Kids apps, Flash videos, 360 videos, or mobile web, with an iPad mobile-web exception.
- Viewers can hide end screens. YouTube may also change or omit their display based on performance, viewer behavior, device, or context.
These display limits mean a saved end screen is not a guarantee that every viewer will see it in the same way.

Troubleshoot common problems
The End screen option is missing
Check that the video is at least 25 seconds long, then open the video’s Editor in Studio. If the video is set as made for kids, end screens are unavailable.
An element is not visible to a viewer
Check the viewer’s app, device, and video format. End screens are not displayed in several contexts, viewers can hide them, and YouTube may vary their display. Previewing in Studio confirms your edit, not that every viewer will receive identical presentation.

The layout covers important content
Return to Content → the video → Editor → End screen. Reposition the elements in the preview, use grid or snap for alignment, and review the ending again before saving.
Click rate is low or changes between videos
Inspect the click rate for each element in the video’s Engagement analytics. Check whether the destination is relevant and whether the call to action clearly describes it. Compare similar videos or periods; the official guidance supplies no benchmark that can establish whether a particular rate is good for every channel.
Or let it run in the cloud
End screens are configured in YouTube Studio; they do not require a streaming service. If your separate goal is to keep pre-recorded videos running as a 24/7 YouTube live stream, StreamNeo is a cloud option: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams uploaded videos to YouTube at the quality provided, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot. It can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, and the monthly option is $9.99 per month. UPI is available in India, and cards are accepted in India and worldwide. This is for uploaded video, not a live camera feed, and it does not create or manage end screens.
