Open Manage Profiles to add one, or choose Edit Profile → Delete Profile to remove a secondary profile. Netflix does not let you delete the account’s first (main) profile, and deleting a profile removes its viewing history and game saves. Menu names may differ on newer apps and devices; the instructions below preserve the 2022 workflow and include current browser fallbacks.
How Netflix profiles work
A profile is a separate viewing environment inside one Netflix membership. Each person can have distinct recommendations, My List, ratings, language and subtitle preferences, playback settings, maturity restrictions, viewing activity, profile lock and, where supported, a game handle and saved games. A profile is not a separate membership, billing account or simultaneous-stream allowance, and it does not by itself authorize use by someone outside the account holder’s household.
Netflix allows up to five profiles on a standard account. Extra-member accounts are different: Netflix says they provide one profile and cannot create additional profiles. The five-profile limit is unrelated to the number of devices your plan permits to stream at the same time. See Netflix’s profile management guidance for the account and device qualifications.
How to create a Netflix profile
On a TV or streaming device
- Open Netflix and go to the profile-selection screen.
- Choose Add Profile+.
- Enter the person’s name.
- Select Kids if this profile is for a child.
- Choose Continue or Save.
Netflix documents profile support on devices made after 2013. If the option is missing, use Netflix.com in a computer browser.

On Android, iPhone or iPad
- Open the Netflix app.
- Tap My Netflix in the lower-right corner.
- Tap the profile name at the top.
- Tap Manage Profiles.
- Choose Add Profile, enter a name and select Kids if appropriate.
- Tap Continue or Save.
Icon placement and wording can vary by app version. If profile management is unavailable in the app or a mobile browser, Netflix directs you to use Netflix.com on a computer.
In a web browser
- Sign in to Netflix.
- Open Manage Profiles.
- Select Add Profile.
- Enter a name and select Kids if appropriate.
- Choose Continue or Save.
Creating a Kids profile
Choose Kids during the normal profile-creation flow. Netflix describes the Kids experience as a simplified interface with a Kids logo and age-appropriate titles, without direct access to account settings. A Kids profile cannot have an email address added for direct Netflix sign-in. This is different from an adult profile with parental controls, which uses maturity ratings and title restrictions. Netflix’s Kids-profile instructions also note that the main profile cannot be converted into the Netflix Kids experience.

How to delete a Netflix profile
Deleting is permanent rather than an archive operation. Verify the profile name, avatar and owner before confirming.
- Open Netflix’s Manage Profiles section.
- Select the profile you want to remove.
- Choose the Edit pencil icon.
- Select Delete Profile.
- Confirm when Netflix asks.
The profile being deleted or the main profile must be active for the operation. Netflix confirms that deletion removes the profile’s viewing history and game saves; recommendations, My List, ratings and profile-specific settings should no longer be available through that profile. The main profile—the first profile created on the account—cannot be deleted. Rename or edit it, or use another profile, rather than closing the whole membership.

Choose the right action

Netflix’s official fallback for unavailable creation, editing or deletion controls is Netflix.com in a web browser.
Stop someone from creating new profiles
A Kids profile alone does not prevent someone from attempting to add another profile. Lock the main profile and require its PIN for additions:

- Open Netflix’s Account page in a browser.
- Select Profiles, then choose the main profile.
- Select Profile Lock.
- Create or edit the four-digit PIN.
- Check Require PIN to add new profiles.
- Save the change.
Netflix says the profile-addition requirement is available only when locking the main, first profile. A profile lock also requires a four-digit PIN to open a protected profile. You can add, change or remove locks from account settings in a browser or through profile management in the mobile app. If you forget a PIN, select Forgot PIN?, or go to netflix.com/account to edit or remove the lock; Netflix may require account-password or email/phone verification. Netflix announced Profile Transfer globally on October 17, 2022. It was intended for someone leaving an account who wanted to retain personalized recommendations, viewing history, My List, saved games and other settings when starting or joining a separate membership. Netflix later announced, on July 11, 2023, that transfers could also go to an existing account rather than requiring a newly created one. Availability, eligibility and the exact flow can depend on the account and country, and a transfer moves a profile rather than duplicating it across accounts. Do not confuse profile deletion with account cancellation
- Delete profile: Removes one personalized environment and its associated viewing history and game saves.
- Cancel membership: Stops future billing according to Netflix’s cancellation terms; it is not a profile-removal action.
- Close or delete the Netflix account: A broader account-level action that is unnecessary when you only want to remove a profile.
2022 interface note
This guide is framed around controls commonly presented in 2022. Netflix has changed app labels and account-sharing features since then, so current screens may look different. The underlying pattern remains Manage Profiles → Add Profile or Edit Profile → Delete Profile on supported devices. Treat current labels as interface guidance, not proof that a present-day screen is an exact 2022 screenshot.
