To keep a podcast available as a continuous YouTube Live stream, enable live streaming on your channel, create a stream in YouTube Studio, then connect an encoder or a prerecorded-video playout service using YouTube’s server URL and stream key. Choose a local encoder for hands-on production, a studio for live guests and controls, or cloud playout when recorded episodes need to run without a computer at home.
Plan the archive before you go live: YouTube automatically archives streams under 12 hours, but a broadcast that exceeds 12 hours should not be relied on as a complete automatically archived video. See YouTube’s encoder streaming guidance.
Choose the workflow that matches your podcast
An always-on podcast stream can mean either a live production that an operator runs continuously or a loop of prerecorded episodes. The services below represent different workflow categories, not equivalent products; current feature limits, account requirements, reconnect behavior, and prices need to be checked with each provider.
| Workflow | What it does | Best fit | Questions to settle first |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cloud prerecorded playout — StreamNeo | Runs uploaded videos or a playlist as a continuous YouTube stream from the cloud. | Recorded episodes that should continue without a local computer. | Does the service support your schedule, archive plan, and account needs? |
| Local encoder software, such as OBS | Sends audio and video from a computer to YouTube. Restream says it works with OBS and other major streaming software; see Restream’s YouTube streaming guide. | Live production or a playback setup where someone can operate the computer. | Who watches the computer and handles outages or restarts? Is this a live show or a loop of recorded episodes? |
| Live production studio, such as StreamYard | Provides a studio workflow; YouTube characterizes StreamYard as a streaming and podcast studio, and StreamYard documents connecting a YouTube channel. | Shows with guests, layouts, and live operator controls. | Check current features and plan limits; the cited sources do not establish it as unattended 24/7 playout. |
| Scheduled prerecorded-video service, such as Restream | Restream documents scheduling prerecorded videos to appear live; see its scheduling instructions. | Recorded content with a scheduled start or a planned sequence. | Check current scheduling, account, reconnect, and archive limitations. Scheduling a video is not by itself proof of unattended continuous operation. |
YouTube’s encoder resource also names Gyre as a cloud-based tool for 24/7 prerecorded-video streaming. That establishes category relevance, not comparative uptime, price, or feature parity. For a podcast made of recorded episodes that must keep playing without a home computer, StreamNeo is the first option to consider: it runs from the cloud, streams uploaded videos at any quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, and offers a free first day.

Prepare YouTube Live and create the stream
- Enable live streaming for the channel. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours, so complete this before the planned launch date. Follow YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.
- Open YouTube Studio → Create → Go Live. Create a stream, or schedule it if you want to promote the start time in advance.
- Choose how YouTube receives the program. If your tool offers YouTube as a destination, select it. Otherwise, copy YouTube’s server URL and stream key into the tool’s stream settings.
- Protect the stream key. Treat it as a credential that authorizes a stream to your channel. Do not post it publicly or share it with anyone who should not be able to broadcast.
- Route the program into the encoder. For a live spoken-word show, connect the podcast audio and visual element. YouTube identifies external audio/video hardware as common in encoder setups; an external microphone is optional, and the cited guidance does not establish one microphone type or model as suitable for every setup.
- Start and verify. Start the encoder or playout tool, then check the preview and stream state in Live Control Room. For a scheduled event, use its Go Live control if the workflow requires manual confirmation.
Run a prerecorded podcast continuously
Use a local encoder when someone can operate it
A computer running encoder software can send a live signal to YouTube, including a program assembled from recorded material. Restream says its service works with OBS and other major streaming software, but the available documentation does not establish a universal configuration, bitrate, or unattended-recovery procedure for every local setup. Confirm those details in the current encoder and YouTube instructions for your chosen workflow.
- Keep the computer and network connection available for the entire broadcast.
- Decide who will notice a stopped encoder, restart it, and confirm the YouTube preview recovers.
- Test the audio and visual output before treating a long-running session as unattended.
Use scheduled playback for a defined sequence
Restream’s documented prerecorded-video route is useful when you want to schedule a video as a live broadcast. A scheduled video and an always-on channel are not automatically the same thing: check whether your intended sequence will continue after one video ends, what manual actions are required, and how reconnection is handled.

Plan the archive around YouTube’s 12-hour threshold
YouTube states that streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume a stream running longer than 12 hours will produce a complete automatic archive. If you need a dependable episode recording, make a separate recording or divide the broadcast into shorter segments, then confirm the resulting archives in YouTube Studio. See YouTube’s live stream archive guidance.
Keep the stream eligible and useful to viewers
- Use material you have rights to broadcast. A podcast feed being live does not itself establish permission to use its music, clips, images, or other third-party material. Check the rights for every element in a loop.
- Make the continuous format clear. Set the title and description to accurately explain whether viewers are joining a live show, a loop, or a scheduled replay. Avoid presenting prerecorded episodes as a live conversation.
- Review YouTube’s channel and monetization policies. Repeated or reused material can raise issues separate from the technical ability to stream it. Check current YouTube policy before building a channel around repeated episodes.
- Monitor the stream after launch. Confirm that audio is present, the picture is correct, and the event remains live in Live Control Room. The listed workflow categories do not establish equal uptime or automatic recovery behavior.
Troubleshoot common setup failures
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Go Live is unavailable | Live streaming has not been enabled, or first-time activation is still pending. | Complete channel activation and allow up to 24 hours for first-time enablement. |
| YouTube does not receive the encoder signal | The destination, server URL, or stream key is missing or incorrect. | Recheck the YouTube stream details and the encoder’s destination settings; keep the key private. |
| The stream appears live but has no usable podcast audio | The audio source may not be routed into the encoder, or the wrong input may be selected. | Check the selected audio source and verify sound in the Live Control Room preview before relying on the stream. |
| A scheduled video ends and the channel goes offline | The schedule may cover only that video rather than a continuous playlist or loop. | Check the provider’s current scheduling behavior and whether another item or manual action is required. |
| A long broadcast has no complete archive | The stream exceeded YouTube’s under-12-hour automatic archive threshold. | Make a separate recording or plan shorter broadcast segments when a complete archive matters. |
| A stream stops after the operator leaves | A local encoder depends on its computer and connection; the selected workflow may not provide unattended recovery. | Check the local computer and network, or choose cloud playout if the goal is playback without a home computer. |
Or let it run in the cloud
For a prerecorded podcast that should remain live while your computer is off, StreamNeo runs the uploaded video or playlist from the cloud to YouTube. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. There is no computer or home connection to keep on; uploads stream as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot. StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, and the Monthly price is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo for details, then start the free first day.
