What’s actually slowing this PC down?

To schedule a YouTube podcast stream, open YouTube Studio and select Create → Go Live → Manage → Schedule stream. Add the event details and visibility, then connect an encoder with the stream URL and key shown in Live Control Room. When the encoder feed appears in the preview, click Go live.
Scheduling creates a shareable watch page and lets viewers set reminders, but it does not make a broadcast run continuously by itself. Plan separately for encoder uptime, reconnection, local recording, and YouTube’s archive limit: streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured.
Before you schedule: check channel eligibility
Confirm that the channel is ready well before the planned broadcast. YouTube’s current live-stream guidance requires a verified channel with no live-stream restrictions in the preceding 90 days, and says creators must be at least 16. Enabling live streaming for the first time may take up to 24 hours, so complete that step early rather than on event day. See YouTube’s live-streaming setup requirements.
- Verify the channel and check for live-stream restrictions.
- Enable live streaming in advance if this is the channel’s first broadcast.
- Choose an encoder that supports YouTube’s ingest settings and can be monitored or recovered if its connection fails.
- Decide who will monitor the feed and where a local recording will be stored.
Schedule the event in Live Control Room
- In YouTube Studio, click Create, then Go Live.
- In Live Control Room, open Manage and choose Schedule stream.
- Choose whether to reuse a previous stream’s settings or create a new stream.
- Enter the event details, schedule, and visibility, then save the event.
- Copy the event’s watch-page URL to share it. Viewers can visit the page in advance and set a reminder.
YouTube documents this as its scheduled encoder-stream workflow; it does not provide a separate event mode that guarantees an uninterrupted 24/7 podcast. For the official steps, see Schedule a live stream.

Connect an encoder and test the feed
Keep the stream key private
Open the scheduled stream’s settings in Live Control Room and copy the stream URL and stream key into the matching fields in your encoder. The key identifies where the encoder sends the feed and should be treated like a password: do not post it, include it in a public screenshot, or share it with anyone who should not be able to broadcast to the channel. If you think it has been exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
Set the output to a tested format
YouTube recommends RTMPS for encrypted ingestion. Its encoder guidance lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 video, AAC or MP3 audio, constant bitrate encoding, and a two-second keyframe interval; the interval should not exceed four seconds. Bitrate depends on resolution, frame rate, and codec, so use the range YouTube lists for the output you choose rather than treating one bitrate as suitable for every stream. YouTube transcodes the incoming stream into formats for viewers. Consult YouTube’s recommended encoder settings for the applicable bitrate ranges.

- Check the local recording destination has sufficient free space for the planned runtime.
Start early and verify the watch page
YouTube recommends setting up the encoder at least two hours before the event and starting it at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start. Confirm that Live Control Room shows a healthy preview before clicking Go live. Check playback on the watch page, including on a phone, and listen for audio clipping, silence, or sync problems. Keep monitoring stream health after the broadcast begins. YouTube’s guidance is at encoder setup and stream troubleshooting.
Choose viewer controls and latency deliberately
DVR
DVR lets viewers pause and rewind while the stream is live, then return to the current point. Decide whether that suits the podcast—for example, it may help a listener who joins late, but it also means viewers can watch behind the live edge. Review the DVR option in the event’s Live Control Room settings. YouTube explains the setting in its live-stream latency and DVR guidance.

Latency
Latency is the delay between the encoder and what viewers see. Lower latency can make interaction feel more immediate, but may increase buffering. For a prerecorded or non-interactive podcast feed, minimizing delay may matter less than steady playback. Choose a setting based on the audience experience you need, then test it under the expected network conditions.
Plan for a 24/7 run—and for the archive
One scheduled event is not an uptime plan
A scheduled event creates the event page and provides a route for the encoder to send a feed; it does not guarantee that the encoder, network, or YouTube connection will stay up continuously. Decide who or what will detect a dropped feed, restart or reconnect the encoder, and verify that the signal has returned. YouTube recommends testing encoder failover, but its setup instructions do not guarantee uninterrupted availability for a continuous feed.

Do not rely on YouTube for a complete 24-hour archive
YouTube says, “If your live stream is less than 12 hours, YouTube can automatically archive it for you.” Streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. A single 24-hour event therefore should not be treated as a dependable complete recording. Record locally, check that the file is growing during the broadcast, and verify the recording after any restart or encoder change. See YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance.
Finish the event cleanly
When the broadcast is over, click End Stream in Live Control Room and stop the encoder feed. Confirm that the local recording has closed correctly and retain it until any needed YouTube archive is available and checked.

Copyright and podcast programming checks
Only stream audio and video you have the rights or permission to use. A podcast that contains music, film or television clips, guest material, or other third-party content can trigger copyright claims or takedowns even when it is presented as a live broadcast. Review permissions for the full playlist, not just the episode you are currently airing. YouTube’s copyright rules apply to live streams as well as uploaded videos; see YouTube’s copyright guidance.
Also consider whether a continuous loop offers meaningful original programming and complies with YouTube’s monetization policies. Reused or repetitive material can affect monetization eligibility; streaming continuously does not itself establish that content meets those policies. Check the current YouTube channel monetization policies if monetization is a goal.
Troubleshoot common live-event problems
- Live streaming is not available: Check channel verification, any live-stream restrictions in the preceding 90 days, and whether first-time enablement has finished. Activation may take up to 24 hours.
- The encoder will not connect: Recheck the stream URL and key, confirm the encoder is set to a supported protocol and format, and ensure the key has not been reset since it was copied.
- No preview appears: Confirm that the encoder is actually sending video and audio, then inspect its connection and output settings. Do not click Go live until the preview is present and looks correct.
- The picture buffers or drops: Check encoder and network stability, then lower the selected bitrate or output resolution if the available upload connection cannot sustain the chosen settings. Re-test before relying on the feed unattended.
- The broadcast disconnects: Follow the recovery plan, verify the encoder has reconnected, and confirm a healthy preview or live signal. Keep the local recording running if possible, and check whether the interruption created a separate segment.
- The archive is missing or incomplete: A stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured. Use the local recording as the dependable backup and verify its file integrity.
