FFmpeg can read that finite list with its concat demuxer, but the manifest alone does not make a stream repeat forever or provide monitoring and recovery.
Create the FFconcat manifest
Save a text file such as playlist.ffconcat. Put the required header on the first line, with no leading spaces or byte-order mark, and then add one file directive for each recording in playback order:
ffconcat version 1.0
file '/srv/music/track-001.flac'
file '/srv/music/track-002.flac'
file '/srv/music/track-003.flac'The header must be precisely ffconcat version 1.0 for FFmpeg to recognize the script automatically. The manifest is a text description of a finite ordered input list, not an audio playlist file such as an HLS output playlist. See the FFmpeg Formats Documentation.
Paths and safe mode
FFmpeg’s concat demuxer uses safe mode by default. Safe mode rejects paths that do not meet its restrictions, including paths that are absolute or use protocol syntax. For a manifest you control with safely named relative paths, keep the default and omit -safe 0. The example below uses absolute paths, so it explicitly sets -safe 0; do that only for a manifest you control. Quote or escape paths with whitespace or special characters correctly, and do not feed uncontrolled filenames into a manifest used with safe mode disabled.

Optional directives
The format supports directives including duration, inpoint, and outpoint, in addition to file. A duration directive can override duration information when appropriate. Incorrect duration metadata, truncated files, or unequal stream lengths can cause timestamp artifacts or gaps, so verify transitions using the files and FFmpeg build you intend to run.

This illustrative command reads the audio stream from the manifest, converts it to AAC at 128 kbit/s, and writes a finite AAC output file:

ffmpeg -re -f concat -safe 0 -i playlist.ffconcat -map 0:a:0 -vn -c:a aac -b:a 128k output.aacThe example is not a ready-made 24/7 broadcast command: output.aac is a finite file. A live destination requires a separate streaming output configuration, credentials or stream key as applicable, and a plan for keeping the process healthy. The command is illustrative rather than a tested recipe; validate it against your inputs and local FFmpeg build before relying on it.
Check compatibility before concatenating
The concat demuxer virtually joins packet streams and adjusts timestamps so each file follows the preceding one. Input files need the same streams, codecs, and time bases. Duration inaccuracies can affect those timestamp adjustments and lead to artifacts or gaps. Inspect the tracks, confirm their order and duration, and test transitions before putting a stream on air. FFmpeg does not guarantee that arbitrary recordings will join cleanly merely because they appear in one manifest.

Choose the right concatenation method
FFmpeg provides three distinct approaches. Choose based on whether the inputs are compatible, whether you can re-encode, and whether the container supports physical file-level concatenation.

What it takes to run continuously
A manifest is finite: after the listed inputs are read, it does not loop itself. The FFmpeg documentation describes concat input and HLS packaging components, but does not prescribe a universal infinite-playlist supervisor or a complete fault-tolerant 24/7 design. Treat continuous operation as a separate deployment problem.
Plan the service around the finite input
- Repeat strategy: decide whether a process manager or scheduler will restart a finite run, or whether your system will regenerate or supply an updated input list. Test the chosen behavior rather than assuming the manifest repeats.
- Health and recovery: plan how you will detect a stalled or exited process, restart it, and check whether the stream has resumed.
- Operations: account for monitoring, logs, storage checks, and a recovery plan. These are deployment choices, not functions supplied by the concat manifest.
- Preflight: scan and sort only a controlled music directory, then validate every file, ordering, duration, and playback transition on the target system.
Keep input manifests separate from HLS output
An FFconcat file tells FFmpeg which source files to read. HLS is a separate output-packaging stage: FFmpeg’s HLS muxer can generate a client-facing playlist and media segments, with options for segment duration, playlist type, segment naming, and playlist window. Generating HLS does not turn the source manifest into an endless service, and serving the resulting assets requires a suitable distribution setup. Clear music rights before broadcasting
FFmpeg’s ability to read and stream a recording does not grant permission to broadcast it. For an Indian music stream, verify permissions for the actual sound recordings and underlying compositions, the intended territory, platform, and mode of communication with the rights holders or qualified counsel. The licensing requirements for a particular use cannot be determined from FFmpeg’s technical documentation; do not assume that a consumer music subscription authorizes rebroadcast.
