Before going live, enable livestreaming, clear rights for every recording and visual, configure and test the feed, and plan how you will handle monitoring and archives. A 24-hour broadcast is not automatically a complete archive, and permission to use music does not by itself make a channel eligible for monetization.
Before you begin: rights, channel access, and a playlist
Clear the recordings and other material
“Devotional” describes a subject, not ownership. A song may involve separate rights in its composition, arrangement, recording, performance, and accompanying footage or artwork. Confirm that you have the necessary rights for every item you plan to broadcast and for the territories where the stream will be available. YouTube’s livestream terms require the streamer to have the necessary rights for exploitation on Google services, including applicable music rights from artists, record labels, publishers, and other royalty participants. Read YouTube’s live-streaming terms.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match can replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt it, or lead to termination if the content remains. Even with a license, you may need the rights holder to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. Check this before launch, rather than assuming that a license alone will prevent an interruption. YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.
Make a playlist inventory with the title, recording owner or licensor, permitted use, territory, and any conditions for each song or visual. Keep license documentation accessible. Do not treat a devotional recording found online as free to rebroadcast.

Confirm that the channel can go live
YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have livestreaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. First-time livestream activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before your intended launch. Check YouTube’s livestream eligibility and activation guidance.
Prepare material suited to a continuous broadcast
Organize the videos in the order you want them played and check that the transitions, audio levels, titles, and visuals are suitable for a long-running feed. Confirm that the playlist contains only material you are authorized to use. If you want a continuous stream but also need reliable individual archives, decide the session and archive plan before choosing a 24-hour run.

Choose how to keep the prerecorded stream running
| Approach | What stays on | Good fit | Considerations |

| Software encoder | A computer, encoder, and internet connection must remain available. | Operators who already have a suitable computer and want direct control of the encoder. | Plan for computer and connection interruptions, monitoring, and recovery. YouTube’s encoder guide explains the setup and lists software options. |
| Dedicated hardware | The hardware encoder and its network connection. | Operators preferring a standalone device instead of a general-purpose computer. | YouTube lists the AJA HELO Plus and describes its PlayToStream function for scheduling prerecorded media directly to YouTube Live without a computer. Check current availability, capabilities, and cost before purchasing. |
YouTube’s encoder guide also lists Gyre as a cloud service for 24/7 prerecorded streams. Product availability and terms can change, so check them directly before selecting a service. The listed approaches are options, not guarantees of uninterrupted operation. YouTube’s encoder setup guide.
Set up a software encoder and connect it to YouTube
The exact encoder controls vary by software. The workflow is the same: create a YouTube Live event, give the encoder the ingest address and stream key, send a private test, and only then make the broadcast public.

- Open YouTube Studio and create the event. Go to YouTube Studio, select Create > Go live to open Live Control Room, then create or schedule the stream. Set its title, description, audience, and visibility deliberately. For a test, use private or unlisted visibility as appropriate.
- Copy the server URL and stream key. In the event’s stream settings, copy the server URL and stream key into the matching fields in your encoder. Treat the key like a password: do not publish or share it. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
- Load the prerecorded playlist. Add the video files to the encoder’s playlist or playback source and set the intended order and looping behavior. Check that playback continues across file transitions and that the audio is present. The encoder sends a live feed; it is not simply a YouTube playlist page.
- Set compatible encoding values. Prefer RTMPS where the encoder supports it. Use constant bitrate (CBR), a 2-second keyframe interval (do not exceed 4 seconds), and stereo audio at 128 Kbps. For YouTube’s listed examples, 720p at 30 fps has a recommended bitrate of 2 Mbps and a range maximum of 6 Mbps; 480p at 30 fps has a recommended bitrate of 0.3 Mbps and a range maximum of 3 Mbps. These are YouTube encoder recommendations, not guarantees about the quality or capacity of your internet connection. Check YouTube’s current live encoder settings for other resolutions and frame rates.
- Check upload capacity and leave headroom. Test your upload bitrate and ensure the connection can sustain the outgoing feed. YouTube recommends leaving 20% bandwidth headroom. If you configure a backup feed, allow for the bandwidth used by both the primary and backup streams. See YouTube’s live-streaming tips.
- Start the encoder and inspect the preview. Begin sending the feed, then confirm that Live Control Room receives it. Watch the preview and stream-health indicators; listen for clear audio and check picture, pacing, and transitions before going public. A private test is useful for finding connection, key, format, and playback problems without relying on the public broadcast.
- Start the broadcast and monitor it. Once the preview and health checks look right, make the event public or start it in Live Control Room. Keep an eye on stream health and audio/video quality during operation, especially after playlist or network changes. YouTube’s guidance recommends monitoring quality and checking local archive files where relevant.
Plan sessions and archives rather than assuming a 24-hour replay
YouTube says live streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume that one uninterrupted 24-hour broadcast will produce a complete replay. If a full archive matters, use sessions shorter than 12 hours and verify the resulting archive in YouTube Studio. Decide how often to start a new event and how to label each session so viewers can find the right recording. YouTube’s live-stream archiving guidance.
Copyright permission is not the same as monetization eligibility
Clearing music rights is necessary for lawful use, but it does not guarantee that a channel or stream can earn money. YouTube’s monetization policies apply to live streams and require content to be original and authentic; its July 15, 2025 update clarified the existing repetitious-content policy as “inauthentic content,” including repetitive or mass-produced content. Reused-content assessment is separate from copyright permission, so a channel may face monetization review even when it has permission to use recordings. YouTube channel monetization policies.

Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Troubleshoot the problems most likely to interrupt a stream
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check or do |
|---|---|---|
| YouTube does not receive the encoder feed | Incorrect stream key or server URL, the encoder is not sending, or the channel is not yet activated for live streaming. | Confirm the event’s current server URL and key in Live Control Room, check the encoder’s connection status, and verify channel eligibility. Reset an exposed key. Allow up to 24 hours for first-time activation. |
| Stream health reports instability or viewers see buffering | Upload capacity is insufficient or varies, or the configured bitrate leaves too little headroom. | Run an upload speed test, reduce the outgoing bitrate if needed, and leave the recommended 20% bandwidth headroom. Account for both feeds if using a backup stream. |
| Audio is missing, distorted, or suddenly changes | Incorrect audio source or encoding, inconsistent levels between files, or a problem at a playlist transition. | Check the encoder’s audio input and stereo settings, listen to a test from beginning to end including transitions, and normalize or adjust the source files before relying on unattended playback. |
| The stream is interrupted or replaced by a placeholder | YouTube detected third-party content, including a recording that triggered Content ID. | Review the rights for the matched item and contact its rights holder. If licensed, ask whether the channel needs to be allowlisted. Remove or replace material you cannot establish rights to use. |
| The live broadcast has no complete replay | The session ran 12 hours or longer, or the archive was not handled as expected. | For complete archives, schedule sessions under 12 hours and verify each archived video in YouTube Studio. |
| A computer-based stream stops when unattended | The computer, encoder, power, or local internet connection stopped running. | Check power and sleep settings, encoder playback and reconnect behavior, and the network. If you do not want a home computer or connection to be a dependency, use a cloud streaming approach. |
