To run a 24/7 YouTube music stream, send a continuously playing playlist to YouTube Live through an encoder. You can use software on a computer or a standalone hardware encoder; neither requires a special YouTube device. First make sure your channel is eligible and that you have the rights to stream every track. Then create a live stream in YouTube Studio, connect the encoder with the stream URL and key, test the output, and monitor the broadcast.
Before you set up the stream
Check live-streaming eligibility
YouTube requires the channel to be verified and to have had no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. The streamer must be at least 16. First-time live-streaming activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it before your planned launch rather than waiting until broadcast time. These requirements and timings are from YouTube Help’s “Get started with live streaming”; the page’s publication year is not stated.
Confirm the music rights
You need the necessary rights for every recording and other item in the broadcast. YouTube’s “Livestream terms and conditions” say creators warrant that they have the rights to exploit live content on Google services worldwide, including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers (including public-performance licenses), and other royalty participants.
Buying a song or subscribing to a consumer music service does not by itself establish permission to rebroadcast that recording on YouTube. The licenses needed depend on the tracks, rights holders, territories, and use. Keep your license records available and confirm that they cover a continuous live broadcast.

Choose how to send the playlist
Your setup needs to play or schedule the playlist, create a video feed for YouTube, and send that feed continuously. YouTube supports software encoders and standalone hardware encoders. Its Help guidance also references a cloud tool for 24/7 prerecorded-video streams, but does not make any particular encoder mandatory.

A capture card, audio interface, or microphone may suit a particular production, but none is inherently required to send a prerecorded playlist. For this format, make sure the encoder can keep the video and playlist running together; avoid buying equipment unless your setup actually needs it.

Create and connect the YouTube live stream
- Prepare the continuous feed. Set up the playlist and the visual component that will accompany it, then confirm that the encoder can keep them playing without interruption. YouTube’s encoder workflow supports software and standalone hardware; specific playlist controls depend on the encoder you choose.
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Create or schedule a live stream. Copy the stream URL and stream key shown for that stream into the matching fields in your encoder. YouTube describes the key as a credential that tells the encoder where to send the feed and lets YouTube accept it.
- Protect the stream key. Treat it like a password: do not publish it or share it with people who should not control the stream. Use the correct key for the stream you created.
- Review stream settings. YouTube’s “Manage live stream settings” guidance includes auto-start and auto-stop options. Check how those settings interact with your encoder and planned start and stop behavior before relying on them.
- Start the encoder feed and check the Live Control Room preview. Confirm that YouTube receives the signal and that the picture and sound are as intended before making the stream public.
Test the stream and keep it running
Check the viewer experience
Before launch, preview the feed in the Live Control Room. If useful, test privately or as an unlisted stream first. Check that the stream is accessible as intended from the channel and watch page, and listen for clean, consistent audio while checking the picture for interruptions or unexpected changes.
Leave bandwidth headroom
YouTube recommends upload capacity 20% above the total bitrate of the stream. For example, if the configured stream bitrate is 5 Mbps, plan for at least 6 Mbps of available upload capacity. The 20% recommendation is YouTube Help guidance; the accessed page does not state a publication year. Leave that margin available to the stream rather than assuming your internet plan’s headline speed will always be available.

Plan for continuity and recovery
A 24/7 broadcast needs more than a successful start: the playlist source, encoder, and connection must continue supplying the feed. Check the stream during operation and investigate dropped input or audio/video issues promptly. YouTube’s guidance does not provide comparative uptime figures for software and hardware encoders, so choose based on the equipment and continuity needs you can support.

Live copyright matching can interrupt a stream
YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches, including copyrighted material from another live broadcast. If it identifies content, it may replace the stream with a placeholder, warn you to stop using the material, or interrupt or terminate the stream if the use continues. Even licensed third-party content may need the rights holder to allowlist your channel through Content ID. These outcomes are described in YouTube Help’s “Copyright issues with live streams.”

If YouTube sends a copyright notice, review it and the relevant license or permission, then respond through the available YouTube process. Do not assume that a track’s presence in a playlist or a purchase receipt resolves a live-stream claim.
Do not count on one complete 24-hour replay
YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its encoder guidance does not say that a continuous 24/7 broadcast will be archived as one complete replay. If keeping a full recording matters, plan a separate recording or shorter broadcast sessions rather than assuming the entire continuous stream will be available as a single replay.
