Random freezes, missing sound and display glitches usually trace back to one bad driver. Find and replace yours safely.Free scan · under a minuteTo create a 24/7 YouTube radio stream with visuals, prepare music and imagery you have the rights to use, send them together through a live encoder, and connect that encoder to YouTube Live with your stream URL and key. Test the complete feed before relying on it, then plan for interruptions, monitoring, and YouTube’s archive limits: a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all.
Before you start: confirm access and rights
Check that the channel can go live
YouTube says a channel must be verified and have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. Its guidance also says creators must be at least 16 years old. Check eligibility before building a long-running setup, since an access restriction can prevent the broadcast from starting. See YouTube’s live-streaming access guidance.
Clear the music and visual material
You are responsible for having the necessary rights to broadcast the material, including music rights. A song being available in a consumer streaming app, or described as “royalty-free,” does not by itself establish that you may rebroadcast it on YouTube. Check that your license covers livestreaming, relevant territories, monetization if applicable, and use in any saved replay.
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match can interrupt or terminate a stream. Even licensed music may be interrupted if the rights holder has not allowlisted your channel through Content ID. Confirm the rights and allowlisting process with the rights holder before going live. Read YouTube’s copyright guidance for live streams and its Livestream terms and conditions.

Prepare the radio program and visual feed
Choose music and other audio that you are authorized to broadcast, then prepare a visual to accompany it. That might be a still image, an animated scene, or other suitable material you have permission to use. Add both audio and visual sources to an encoder so it can send a synchronized program feed to YouTube. YouTube describes encoder workflows for software and hardware, including the use of overlays; the exact controls depend on the encoder you choose. See YouTube’s guide to creating a live stream with an encoder.
A software encoder is a flexible route if you already have a computer that can run it. A standalone encoder is an optional hardware alternative, not a requirement. YouTube lists the AJA HELO Plus as an H.264 encoder and describes an optional scheduling feature for sending prerecorded media directly to YouTube Live without a computer. Treat that as an advanced option: confirm that the device and its scheduling workflow suit your intended setup before buying anything.

Create the YouTube event and connect the encoder
- Open YouTube Studio and enter Live Control Room. Create a live stream or schedule one, following the current prompts in Studio. YouTube’s interface can change, so use the live-stream setup flow shown for your account.
- Retrieve the stream URL and stream key. In the event’s encoder or stream settings, copy the server URL and key provided by YouTube.
- Enter the connection details in your encoder. Paste the URL and key into the corresponding server and stream-key fields. Keep the key private: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your broadcast.
- Start sending the feed and check the preview. Confirm that YouTube receives the stream and that the preview shows the intended visual with audible, synchronized sound. Follow the Live Control Room workflow to start the public broadcast when ready.
For the current platform workflow, consult YouTube’s encoder setup instructions.
Choose settings and test the actual broadcast
There is no single bitrate that suits every connection or encoder. YouTube’s recommended H.264 examples below are starting points, not guarantees: the connection must sustain the selected output, and the appropriate figure depends on resolution and frame rate.

| H.264 output | YouTube-recommended bitrate |
|---|---|
| 1080p at 30 fps | 10 Mbps |
| 720p at 30 fps | 6 Mbps |
| 480p at 30 fps | 3 Mbps |
YouTube recommends RTMPS, constant bitrate, and a keyframe interval of about 2 seconds; do not exceed 4 seconds. Check the current encoder recommendations for other codecs, resolutions, and frame rates before selecting settings. YouTube automatically transcodes live output for viewers on different devices and network conditions, but that does not remove the need for a stable feed from your encoder. See YouTube’s live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.
Run a representative test before going live
Measure upload bandwidth and test with the real audio and visual sources, including any movement or transitions that will occur in the broadcast. A private or unlisted test can reveal problems without making the program public. Check the preview and listen for gaps, clipping, or mismatched sound; watch for frozen visuals and dropped frames. During a broadcast, monitor stream health and messages in Live Control Room. YouTube’s live-streaming tips also recommend testing ahead of time and checking the quality of local recordings.

Plan for continuity, archives, and DVR
A 24/7 channel is an operational commitment, not just a long event. A computer-based encoder depends on the machine, power, storage, network, and audio source continuing to work. Plan who will notice a failure and how the feed will be restored; do not treat YouTube as a guarantee of uninterrupted operation.
There is also a concrete trade-off with a single very long event. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but a stream that exceeds 12 hours may not be captured at all. DVR rewind may also be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. If a replay matters, keep a separate local recording and consider whether shorter scheduled events better fit your needs. Neither shorter events nor a particular restart schedule guarantees a specific archive outcome, so check current Studio behavior before settling on a routine. See YouTube’s guidance on archiving live streams and DVR on live streams.
