To run Assamese folk instrumentals on YouTube around the clock, first clear the rights to every composition, arrangement, performance and recording you plan to play. Then enable live streaming on an eligible channel, send a prepared audio-and-video program through an encoder, check YouTube Studio’s preview and monitor the broadcast. A traditional or claim-free track is not automatically cleared, and YouTube can interrupt a live stream after detecting third-party content.
1. Clear the music before you build the stream
For every track, identify the underlying song or composition, any modern arrangement, the performers and the owner of the sound recording. These can involve different rights holders. Get written permission that covers the uses you intend: live streaming on YouTube, the territories where it will be available, how long you may use it and whether the broadcast may be archived.
- Keep the permissions and a matching track list together so you can identify the source of any disputed item.
- Ask the relevant rights owner or distributor whether they can add your channel to their Content ID allowlist. A licence does not, by itself, ensure that automated matching will leave the broadcast uninterrupted.
- Do not treat a track’s “folk” or “traditional” label, a government-hosted copy, or a test stream without a claim as proof that you have permission.
YouTube’s Live Stream Terms and Conditions say that a streamer warrants having the necessary rights for worldwide exploitation of live content on Google services, including music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers and other royalty participants. That is why checking only who recorded a track is not enough.
For an India-based channel, the Copyright Act’s definition of “communication to the public” includes making a work available for public enjoyment at times chosen individually. Consider the rights for both a live broadcast and any on-demand version. The legal status of a particular Assamese song, arrangement or recording cannot be inferred from the genre alone; get advice from a qualified professional if you are uncertain about a specific work.

The Assam Directorate of Archives’ own reuse policy is a useful reminder that permission to reproduce material on a government site does not extend to content identified as third-party copyright. It is not a blanket permission rule for Assamese music.
Make an original library if you want more control
You can record original instrumental performances and build the program around them, but confirm that the performers and anyone else contributing have agreed to the recording and intended uses. An Assam Bihu Dhol is one possible instrument for an original performance, not a streaming requirement and not permission to use someone else’s music. Intellectual Property India’s GI listing records Assam Bihu Dhol as registered for the geographical area of Assam, with validity through 25 October 2032; that status does not clear the rights in a particular recording or composition.

2. Check that your channel can go live
YouTube’s current Help guidance sets these prerequisites for live streaming: the channel must be verified, it must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the past 90 days, and the streamer must be at least 16. YouTube for Artists recommends enabling a music channel’s first live stream at least 24 hours before its planned start.
- Sign in to the YouTube channel you will use and complete channel verification if it is not already verified.
- Check that the channel has no live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days and that the person streaming meets the age requirement.
- Enable live streaming in advance, especially if this will be the channel’s first stream. Allow at least 24 hours for a first music-channel stream, as recommended by YouTube for Artists.
3. Prepare the program and encoder
An encoder-based workflow suits a prepared music program with a visual element, such as original instrumental sessions or a playlist of tracks you have cleared. YouTube describes encoders as suitable for external audio and video equipment and overlays, and notes that they are commonly used for concerts and conferences. The official guidance reviewed does not establish one required encoder product or a minimum computer specification.

Build a continuous audio-and-video feed
Arrange the cleared tracks in the order you want them played. If your program is audio-led, decide what viewers will see while listening—for example, footage or artwork you own or have permission to use. Check the rights for that visual material too. Make a test playlist first, then verify that the program transitions cleanly between tracks and that its audio is audible without clipping or long unintended silences.
Set up the encoder from YouTube Studio
- Open YouTube Studio and go to the live-stream setup. Create or select the broadcast and obtain its stream details, including the stream key.
- Enter the stream details in your encoder and select the prepared audio-and-video source. Keep the stream key private; anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to the channel.
- Choose encoder settings that the source and your connection can sustain. Match the output to the material you are sending rather than inventing detail the recording does not contain. YouTube’s reviewed setup guidance does not establish a single bitrate, resolution or keyframe interval for every channel and source, so consult the current recommendations shown for your stream and encoder instead of relying on a universal preset.
- Use the private preview before starting the public broadcast. Confirm that the picture appears, the audio level is usable, the playlist continues as expected and the title and other stream details are correct.
4. Start the broadcast and monitor it
Once the preview is correct, start the feed from the encoder and confirm in YouTube Studio that the stream is live. Keep an operator able to check the picture, sound, network, power, encoder and Studio status. Arrange a way to restart the program if the encoder or local connection fails, and keep a contact path to the relevant rights holders in case a Content ID match appears.

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match can lead to interruption or termination, so a 24/7 schedule is not a promise of uninterrupted delivery. If YouTube issues a warning or strike, check the notice in Studio, stop or replace the flagged material, and resolve the listed issue before resuming. Do not assume that a stream will be archived completely or consistently: YouTube’s public guidance does not settle archive behavior for every 24/7 broadcast, account or situation.

Cost and equipment decisions
A local encoder setup requires a computer capable of running the chosen encoder and producing the planned audio/video feed; creators recording performances may also need an audio interface and microphone suitable for their source. The official guidance reviewed does not establish exact hardware models or minimum specifications, so choose equipment against the needs of your encoder, input sources and connection rather than buying to a generic 24/7 specification.
For a local setup, account for the computer’s power use, internet service and the practical burden of keeping the system available and supervised. A managed cloud playout shifts the always-on playback away from your home computer, but compare the service’s playlist support, monitoring and recovery controls, recurring costs, and what responsibility remains with you during a YouTube or rights interruption. Neither approach removes the need to clear the music.
