To control a live stream running in Streamlabs Desktop, pair the Streamlabs Controller app on your phone with Desktop using its QR code. For the usual setup, put both devices on the same local network, then scan the code shown under Settings > Remote Control in Streamlabs Desktop. Streamlabs Controller is a remote for Desktop; Streamlabs Mobile is a separate app for broadcasting directly from your phone.
What you need before pairing
- A phone with the Streamlabs Controller app installed and updated. Streamlabs’ Controller support article, last updated April 25, 2025, lists Android 5.1 or newer and iOS 12 or newer. App requirements can change, so confirm compatibility in your phone’s app store.
- A computer running Streamlabs Desktop and a phone connected to the same local network for QR pairing.
- Permission for Streamlabs Desktop to communicate through the computer’s firewall.
For local discovery, avoid a guest Wi-Fi network that blocks communication between devices, and check that router AP Isolation is off. Network settings vary by router, so consult its documentation if you cannot find these options.
Pair Streamlabs Controller with Streamlabs Desktop
- Install or update Streamlabs Controller on your phone.
- Connect the phone and the computer running Streamlabs Desktop to the same local network.
- On the computer, allow Streamlabs Desktop through the firewall if prompted or blocked.
- In Streamlabs Desktop, open Settings > Remote Control, then click SHOW to reveal the QR code.
- Open Streamlabs Controller on your phone, go to Remote Control, and scan the QR code shown in Desktop.
Streamlabs documents this QR-code workflow as the straightforward local-network connection. If the labels differ in your installed version, check the current in-app help or Streamlabs support instructions.
What you can control from the phone
Streamlabs’ phone-control guide describes actions including going live, starting a recording, switching scenes, toggling sources, and checking chat activity and recent events. The guide was last updated April 25, 2025; available controls and labels may differ in the current app version.

If pairing does not work
Check network discovery and firewall access
- Confirm both devices are on the same local network, rather than a guest network that isolates devices.
- Check the router for AP Isolation or equivalent client-isolation settings and disable them if they prevent local device access.
- Confirm the computer firewall allows Streamlabs Desktop.
- If the router supports both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi, Streamlabs suggests trying different bands.
Refresh the connection credentials
If the basic checks do not resolve pairing, Streamlabs’ support article suggests opening Settings > Remote Control in Desktop, revealing the blurred QR code, opening Show Details, generating a new API key, rebooting the computer, and scanning the refreshed QR code. These are vendor-documented troubleshooting steps, not guaranteed fixes.
Use the controller over the internet only if needed
Streamlabs documents an advanced route for connecting when the phone and computer are not on the same local network. It involves pairing locally first, forwarding router port 59650 to the computer, then choosing Remote > Manual Connection in the phone app and entering the computer’s public IP address (and an alternate port if configured). Streamlabs notes that this may require advanced network knowledge and that a dynamic public IP can change, requiring an update in the app. Router configuration can expose a computer to outside connections; the support article does not provide a security evaluation, so do not treat port forwarding as the default beginner setup.

Controller is not Streamlabs Mobile
Streamlabs Controller remotely operates Streamlabs Desktop. Streamlabs Mobile is a different app for streaming directly from a phone, including camera or game streams, with its own scenes, streaming settings, and platform selection. The Mobile product page lists iOS 14+ and Android 5.0+ for that app; those requirements do not apply to Controller.
