To send a MediaLive channel to YouTube over encrypted RTMPS, create or select a YouTube stream, reveal and copy its RTMPS URL and stream key, then enter those details in a MediaLive RTMP output group. Start MediaLive and verify the preview in YouTube Live Control Room; for a scheduled broadcast, you must also click Go live.
Before you configure MediaLive
You need a YouTube Live stream and its current ingest details: the RTMPS server URL and the stream key. The URL and key belong to that specific stream, so use the values shown in its Live Control Room rather than a generic endpoint or a key from another stream. YouTube describes RTMPS as RTMP carried over a TLS/SSL connection to encrypt the stream. See YouTube’s RTMPS instructions.
Get the RTMPS URL and key from YouTube
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live.
- Open the Stream tab and create a stream or select the scheduled stream you intend to use.
- In Stream settings, find Stream URL and click its lock icon to reveal the RTMPS URL. YouTube normally displays the ordinary RTMP URL by default.
- Copy the complete RTMPS URL and the stream key for that same stream. Keep the key private: YouTube treats it as the stream’s password and address.
See YouTube’s encoder setup guide for its live-stream workflow.
Configure the MediaLive RTMP output group
In AWS Elemental MediaLive, create or edit the channel and add an RTMP output group. The AWS MediaLive User Guide describes an RTMP output group with one output and separate settings for the destination, connection, and video, audio, and caption streams.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Enter the destination details
- In the output’s RTMP destination settings, map the copied URL’s components to the URL fields MediaLive presents: protocol, host or address, port, and application portion. Use the values from YouTube’s current stream settings; do not copy AWS’s example URL as a YouTube endpoint.
- Enter the YouTube stream key in MediaLive’s stream name field.
- For the secure connection, set the authentication scheme and certificate mode according to the downstream system’s requirements. AWS documents an authentication-scheme field (typically Common) and a certificate-mode field.
- Match the destination count to the MediaLive channel class: configure one destination for a single-pipeline channel or two for a standard channel. Check the destination values YouTube supplies for the particular stream; do not assume YouTube provides two different endpoints.
MediaLive can accept destination information as separate application and stream-name components or as a complete path. Follow the field structure in the AWS guide while keeping the actual URL and key specific to your YouTube stream.
Start the channel and verify YouTube receives it
- Start the MediaLive channel.
- Open that stream in YouTube Live Control Room and wait for its video preview to appear.
- If the stream is scheduled, click Go live in Live Control Room to begin the broadcast. For an immediate stream, YouTube’s encoder workflow says starting the encoder creates the watch page and puts the stream live.
Troubleshoot RTMPS connection problems
- SSL or certificate error: Copy the URL again from the YouTube stream’s settings, since the ordinary RTMP URL may be displayed by default. Confirm the protocol is
rtmps. If the URL otherwise looks correct and the SSL error persists, YouTube suggests trying port 443; use the actual stream URL, not an illustrative hostname. - Connection timeout: Check the URL and port, and confirm the sending encoder supports RTMPS.
- No preview or stream rejected: Verify the key belongs to the selected YouTube stream and is entered as MediaLive’s stream name. If someone reset the key, update the MediaLive configuration to use the replacement. YouTube’s live stream settings guidance covers managing stream settings.
- Destination count mismatch: Check the MediaLive channel class and use one destination for single-pipeline or two for standard. Inspect the stream’s supplied destination values rather than assuming two distinct YouTube endpoints.
Or let it run in the cloud
MediaLive is the route for delivering a live production through AWS. If instead your goal is to keep an uploaded recording or playlist looping as a 24/7 YouTube stream, StreamNeo runs that playback in the cloud: upload the video, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; each slot streams the uploaded file at its original quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. This is for uploaded-video playback, not a live camera or a substitute for MediaLive’s live production workflow. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
