Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsTo send an SRT output from AWS Elemental Live, open the event’s Output Groups > Reliable TS, add an output, set Delivery Protocol to SRT, and configure its connection mode to match the receiving endpoint. Before you start, coordinate the receiver’s role, destination address and port, latency, encryption settings, and network access with its administrator.
Before configuring the output
Gather the destination-specific values first; AWS does not prescribe a universal address, port, latency, interface, or passphrase. Ask the downstream administrator for:
- Whether the receiving endpoint is configured as an SRT caller or listener.
- The destination IP address and port for each stream.
- The latency value the receiver expects, so you can configure a close match.
- Whether encryption is enabled and, if so, the AES level and agreed passphrase.
- Any network or firewall changes needed for Elemental Live to reach the destination. Depending on the setup, this may involve opening ports at the destination or allowing traffic from Elemental Live’s public IP address.
Decide whether you need a secondary destination for redundancy. Configure one only if the receiver can accept two streams and switch to the alternate, and your content provider can supply two completely identical source copies. Otherwise, use a single destination. These preparation requirements are covered in AWS’s SRT output preparation guide.
AWS notes that “Elemental Live doesn’t use an SRT stream ID when delivering output.” You do not need to obtain or enter an output stream ID for this procedure. (Amazon Web Services, Getting ready – AWS Elemental Live.)

Create the SRT output in the event
- Open the event in the AWS Elemental Live interface and go to Output Groups.
- Choose Reliable TS, then choose Add Output.
- Set Delivery Protocol to SRT.
- Set SRT Connection Mode to match the downstream endpoint’s role. Use the pairing table below.
- For the primary destination, enter the downstream IP address and port. AWS shows
srt://192.168.1.2:5000as an example format; it is illustrative, not a recommended destination or port for your installation. - Set the interface if your deployment requires one. Use the value appropriate to your system rather than assuming a particular interface.
- Enter the latency agreed with the receiver.
- Select None if the connection is unencrypted, or select the agreed AES encryption level. If encryption is enabled, enter the passphrase agreed with the downstream administrator.
- If you planned redundant delivery and both systems support it, add the secondary destination using the coordinated endpoint details.
- Save the output and verify that the receiving system is prepared to accept the connection in its configured role.
AWS documents this Reliable TS workflow and the SRT output fields in its Creating the output guide.
Match caller and listener roles
The caller initiates the SRT handshake; the listener waits to accept or reject it. Elemental Live sends the output content in either configuration. Select its mode based on the role configured on the receiving endpoint:

- SDI NDI Encoder Decoder: Encode SDI signals to NDI or decode NDI signals to SDI. It supports NDI|HX3, NDI|HX2, and NDI|HX (Certified), but not full NDI (NDI|HB). Streamlines workflows with high-efficiency NDI|HX formats, ensuring seamless integration between different production systems. Note: ZowieBox cannot be used as an encoder and decoder at the same time. It can only switch between the two working modes, not use both modes at the same time
- AVoIP to NDI and SDI: It can decode AVoIP video streams (RTMP, RTSP, SRT) into NDI and SDI in decoding mode, seamlessly integrating diverse video sources into NDI-compatible workflows for enhanced efficiency in media production and broadcasting
- UVC to SDI Converter: Easily turn your UVC cameras into SDI cameras. With up to 1080@60fps decoding resolution, ZowieBox allows you to unfold more possibilities for webcam devices. Note: USB capture card functionality is not supported
- SDI Extender: Using two ZowieBoxes enables point-to-point transmission: one serves as an SDI encoder/transmitter, while the other functions as an SDI decoder/receiver. This setup allows SDI video signals to be transmitted via a LAN. Note: The SDI signal of ZowieBox (hardware before 10.1.13) is not compatible with ATOMAS SHOGUN INFERNO, SHOGUN ULTRA, Blackmagic Decklink Quad 2
- Standalone Live Streaming: Just plug and play, ZowieBox can stream videos PC-free, not affecting your computer performance at all. Support SRT caller/RTMP(S)/RTSP streaming protocol
| Downstream endpoint role | Elemental Live SRT mode | Handshake initiator |
|---|---|---|
| Listener | Caller | Elemental Live |
| Caller | Listener | Downstream endpoint |
If the roles are mismatched, the endpoints will not establish the intended connection. Confirm the receiver’s actual role with its administrator rather than inferring it from which system sends the video. AWS explains the caller/listener behavior in its SRT delivery documentation.
Choose generic SRT or the MediaConnect option
Use the generic SRT delivery protocol for a downstream endpoint that is not AWS Elemental MediaConnect. If the destination is an SRT flow on MediaConnect, AWS recommends configuring a Reliable TS output group with the AWS Elemental MediaConnect option instead of the generic SRT output. These are distinct output paths; choose the one that matches the receiving service. See AWS’s guidance on delivering TS using SRT.

Check software-version availability
AWS’s output-types table lists SRT in Reliable TS for live transport stream output and identifies Elemental Live 2.22.2 as the version that introduced the option. Treat that as the historical introduction point, not confirmation that the feature is enabled in a particular appliance or deployment. Check the software version installed on your system and its available output options in AWS’s output types documentation.
Troubleshoot common setup failures
- No connection or handshake: Check that Elemental Live’s SRT mode is opposite the receiver’s role as shown above, and confirm the destination IP address and port. Verify firewall rules and network reachability, including any required allowance for traffic from Elemental Live’s public IP address.
- The receiver rejects the connection: Confirm that it is listening or calling as agreed and that the configured destination details point to the intended endpoint.
- Encrypted connection fails: Compare both ends’ encryption setting, AES level, and passphrase with the downstream administrator. The encryption configuration must match at both ends.
- Packet recovery or latency behavior is unsatisfactory: Coordinate the latency value with the receiver and configure a close match. AWS does not specify one universal latency value for every deployment.
- Secondary stream is unusable: Confirm the receiver supports two streams and can switch to the alternate, and that both supplied source copies are identical. Remove the secondary destination if either condition is not met.
- You cannot find the SRT choice: Check the installed Elemental Live version and the available Reliable TS output options; AWS lists 2.22.2 as the version that introduced SRT output.
