You can move or recreate some playlists and put Premium on the account you want to keep, but Spotify does not document a way to combine account identities, listening history, recommendations, or every part of a library. Keep both accounts until you have checked what transferred.
Can you merge two Spotify accounts?
Spotify’s current support documentation does not provide a standard full-account merge procedure. Its documented options cover changing Premium plans, sharing or creating playlists, and importing playlists from other streaming services—not combining two Spotify accounts into one. For plan details, see Spotify’s Premium plan guidance.

“Combining accounts” can mean several different things: moving playlists, finding which account has Premium, keeping an old recommendation profile, or sharing a household plan with another person. Those needs have different solutions. Duo and Family provide plan benefits to separate accounts; they do not combine libraries or logins. Spotify’s Duo plan is for two people who use their own accounts.
Choose which account to keep
Compare the accounts before moving anything. Sign in using each email address or sign-in method you may have used, then record the details that matter most:
#1 Best Overall
- No returns and no refunds on gift cards. Good for use on the US Google Play Store only. Terms apply - see below.
- Google Play gift codes can be used on the Google Play Store, the official app store for Android, to purchase apps, games, and more.
- New finds, old favorites, one card. Choose a unique gift card design featuring your favorite games or apps. This card can also be used for anything else on Google Play. There’s something for everyone, so find what’s yours. Go Play.
- To redeem, enter code in the Play Store app or play.google.com.
- Easy to use: With a Google Play gift code, you never have to worry about expiration dates or fees.
- Email address, username, and profile URL.
- Whether Premium is active, how it is billed, and the next payment date.
- Important playlists, including private, collaborative, and shared playlists.
- Liked Songs and followed artists, podcasts, and shows.
- Listening history and recommendations you want to preserve.
- Devices signed in and the login method you want to use going forward.
If preserving recommendations and listening history matters most, favor the account with that history. Spotify describes recommendations as based on listening and interaction patterns; copying playlists does not reproduce those signals. See Spotify’s explanation of finding playlists.
Move playlists and liked music
Share a playlist with the account you’re keeping
- Sign in to the source account and open the playlist.
- Open its three-dot menu, choose Share, and copy the link.
- Sign in to the destination account and open the link.
- Save or follow the playlist. If you need a separately editable playlist owned from the destination account, create one there and add the tracks.
Playlist access depends on privacy settings. Spotify says shared links for private playlists expire after seven days, so create a fresh link if an old one no longer works. See Spotify’s playlist privacy and access guidance.
Make an independent copy
To create a playlist under the account you are keeping, make a new playlist while signed in to that account and add the tracks from the source playlist. Review the copy for missing tracks, alternate versions, and ordering; Spotify’s playlist controls support adding, removing, and reordering tracks. The available controls can vary by app and region. See Spotify’s playlist creation guidance.
A saved or followed playlist is not necessarily an independent copy. Check that the destination account can edit the playlist as intended before relying on it, especially if it is collaborative.

Handle Liked Songs separately
Spotify does not document a complete Liked Songs transfer between accounts. Where practical, use the source account’s Liked Songs as a reference and add the tracks to a playlist or save them individually on the destination account. This may not preserve the exact Liked Songs state, save dates, or personalization data.
Some tracks may be unavailable or appear in a different version because catalog rights vary by country and over time. Search for unavailable tracks manually and choose a currently available version if one exists. See Spotify’s guidance on missing music and podcasts.
Use Spotify’s import feature only for other services
Spotify documents an in-app import workflow for playlists from other streaming services using Tune My Music. In the mobile app, open Your Library, tap Import your music from other apps, choose the source service, authorize access, select items, tap Transfer to Spotify, and authenticate the destination Spotify account. This is documented for imports from other services—not as a Spotify-account-to-Spotify-account merge. See Spotify’s playlist import instructions.
Move Premium to the account you’re keeping
If Premium is already on the account you want to keep, there may be no subscription change to make. If it is on the other account, first transfer and audit the content you can. Then decide whether to cancel Premium there and subscribe on the retained account. Canceling does not delete that account or its playlists and saved music; Premium generally continues until the next billing date, except for a zero-priced trial. See Spotify’s cancellation guidance.

For an eligible Individual or Student account, Spotify’s documented plan-change path is to open the account page, find Manage your subscription, choose Change plan, and select a plan. Spotify says playlists, saved music, and settings remain when changing Premium plans. If a mobile carrier or other partner bills the subscription, the partner may need to handle cancellation, and Premium may need to end before you switch. See Spotify’s plan-change instructions.
If you are being charged while the account you are signed into shows Free, Premium may be attached to a different Spotify account. Try other email addresses and sign-in methods before starting another subscription.
If you want to share Premium with another person
Use Duo or Family if you meet the plan’s eligibility requirements rather than sharing one login. Each person keeps a separate account, library, and listening profile. For Duo, the plan manager pays and invites the other person; the invited member signs in to their own account and confirms the household address. Spotify says the manager cannot be changed after setup and members can switch plans only once every 12 months. See Spotify Duo details.
Family also keeps accounts separate and uses address verification. Failed verification or a missed seven-day re-verification can remove Premium; Spotify says it may also restrict joining another Duo or Family plan for 12 months. See Duo address verification and Family address verification.

What does not transfer as part of a full merge
Without a documented full-account merge, do not expect the following to move intact simply because you copied playlists:
- Listening history and the recommendation profile built from it.
- Followers and following relationships, account username, or account ID.
- Offline downloads, which need to be downloaded again on the retained account.
- Subscription transaction history, device history, and account-specific settings.
- Podcast listening position or other account-specific state.
Spotify’s offline listening rules include device and online-activity limits; downloads are not portable music files. See Spotify’s offline listening guidance.
Troubleshoot common problems
A playlist link will not open
Check that the playlist still exists, that the correct account is signed in, and that its privacy settings allow sharing. If the link to a private playlist is older than seven days, generate a new one. If access still fails, make a new playlist under the destination account and add the tracks directly.
Tracks are missing
A missing track can reflect regional licensing, a removed recording, a different release, or local music rather than a failed transfer. Search for the track in Spotify and check whether a currently available version exists. Catalog availability varies by country and over time.
Best Value

Premium is on the wrong account
- Sign out, then try each email address and sign-in method you have used.
- Check the account’s plan and payment details, and compare its username and playlists with the account you expect.
- If you still cannot identify the charged account, contact Spotify support with your payment receipt.
Spotify notes that being charged while logged into a Free account usually means Premium is attached to another Spotify account. See Spotify’s cancellation and account guidance.
You deleted a playlist by mistake
Spotify says deleted playlists can be recovered within 90 days. Check the recovery option described in Spotify’s missing music and podcasts guidance before rebuilding the playlist.
Audit the retained account before closing the other one
Keep both accounts available until you have completed this checklist:
Quick Recap
- Open the important playlists from the destination account and confirm their tracks and access.
- Check that collaborative playlists still work for the people who need them.
- Recreate important Liked Songs and re-follow artists, podcasts, and shows as needed.
- Sign in to each device with the retained account and download offline content again.
- Confirm the retained account’s Premium plan, billing, and privacy settings.
- Only after the audit, decide whether to cancel Premium on or close the duplicate account.
