To diagnose the feed itself, open Live Control Room and review its stream status and health. A “24/7” title or label alone does not confirm that a stream is currently live.
Check a stream you operate in YouTube Studio
- Sign in to YouTube Studio for the channel that runs the stream.
- Select Content, then open the Live tab.
- Look under Live Now. YouTube uses this category for videos that are currently live streaming.
Studio separates Live Now from Upcoming and Live Replay. A scheduled broadcast or replay may appear in the Live area without being live at that moment.
Check stream health and errors
If you need to know whether the outgoing feed is reaching YouTube properly, open Live Control Room and inspect stream status and health. YouTube Help explains that the Live Dashboard and Live Control Room check for errors in the stream being sent to YouTube. Status information can include an error message and instructions.
Review an error’s timestamp and severity. YouTube describes red errors as critical and potentially disruptive to starting or viewing an event; yellow errors are moderate and may degrade quality. An error timestamp indicates when it was seen. If an error remains unfixed, it continues to appear. See YouTube’s live streaming error messages guidance.

If you are watching someone else’s stream
Open the stream’s public watch page and check whether it is playing as a live broadcast. You can also browse YouTube’s Live section for current streams. Viewers do not need access to YouTube Studio or Live Control Room to check the public stream.
If the stream is missing or appears to have ended
- It is not under Live Now: Check the channel’s Live area and confirm the item is not listed as Upcoming or Live Replay. Then inspect Live Control Room for its current status.
- The stream is listed, but playback is failing or degraded: Check Live Control Room for health details and error instructions. Use the error timestamp and severity to understand what YouTube detected.
- You are relying on its title or description: Open the current status instead. A “24/7” claim does not prove the stream is broadcasting now.
- You are only trying to check whether it is live: You do not need encoder setup guidance. Encoder settings concern producing and sending a stream, not inspecting the status of an existing broadcast.
