To change what viewers see without changing the YouTube Live URL, keep the existing live event active and switch the input in the encoder already connected to it. Leave that event’s server URL and stream key in the encoder, then check the Live Control Room preview for the new picture and sound. The exact switch controls depend on your encoder.
Change the source in the encoder, not the YouTube event
The viewer-facing URL belongs to the YouTube live event. Your encoder sends video and audio to that event using its server URL and stream key. So, to keep the same event link in use, change what the encoder sends while it remains connected to the existing event. YouTube describes the encoder connection and event workflow in its encoder setup instructions.
- Open the intended event. In YouTube Studio, open its Live Control Room and verify that you have selected the event already in progress.
- Keep the existing connection details. Leave that event’s stream URL and stream key configured in the encoder. YouTube explains these settings in Manage live stream settings.
- Select the new input in your encoder. This might mean choosing another scene, camera, capture input, or other source. Menu names and whether you can preview the change before it reaches viewers vary by encoder; YouTube does not specify one universal source-switch control.
- Check the Live Control Room preview. Confirm the new image, framing, and audio before relying on the change. YouTube recommends testing encoder settings and checking the preview and stream health; see its encoder settings guidance and live streaming tips.
- Monitor the feed. Check the outgoing picture, sound, and stream health after switching. If the encoder disconnects, verify its stream URL and key; if the key was reset, replace the old key in the encoder.
What you can switch—and what viewers may see
Software scenes or sources
If your encoder uses scenes, select the scene that contains the intended source. If you are switching an input directly, select the new camera or capture input in that encoder. The precise controls depend on the software or hardware, so use its own instructions for the specific menus and any transition or preview options.
Camera or external video input
The encoder must receive a usable signal from the camera or other input before you select it. If the preview goes black or freezes, check the selected input and confirm the source is sending a signal. A capture card or hardware switcher is only relevant when your particular setup needs it; no one device is required for every source change.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Expect a visible transition
Keeping the same event connected does not guarantee that every switch will look seamless. The result depends on the encoder and production setup. Check the preview and audio, and be ready to select the previous working source again if the new one fails.
Do not use “Reuse settings” to switch an input mid-event
YouTube’s Reuse settings feature creates a new stream using copied settings, metadata, and stream key, with an opportunity to edit those settings. It is for setting up another stream, not a command to change the input for an event already underway. The cited YouTube instructions do not promise that a replacement stream keeps the same viewer URL, so treat it as a separate event workflow. See Manage live stream settings.

Ending the current event and creating another one is also a separate workflow. If retaining the current event link is the goal, keep that event active while its connected encoder sends the new source.
Troubleshoot a failed source change
- Black or frozen preview: Confirm that the intended source is selected in the encoder and that it is providing a signal. If possible, switch back to the last working source while you investigate.
- Wrong picture or framing: Check which scene or input is active, then verify framing in the Live Control Room preview before continuing.
- No audio or unexpected audio: Check the audio source or routing in the encoder and listen to the preview or monitoring output available in your setup.
- Encoder connection error: Check that the encoder is using the intended event’s stream URL and key. YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting guidance specifically recommends checking the stream key for third-party encoder start errors.
- The key no longer works: If an authorized channel owner or manager reset it, copy the current key from Live Control Room into the encoder. YouTube says channel owners or managers can reset a key; editors and viewers do not have that permission. Details are in Manage live stream settings.
- Preparing for a scheduled event: Connect the encoder to the intended scheduled stream and verify the preview before going live. YouTube describes the scheduled encoder workflow in its encoder setup instructions.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is for keeping a YouTube channel live with uploaded videos; it is not a camera or live-input switcher. If your goal is an always-on stream of pre-recorded material, the steps are: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. StreamNeo loops the video from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. It streams the uploaded video as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; it can automatically recover if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly: $9.99 per month.
