How to Change the Playlist on an Always-On YouTube Stream Hosted in the Cloud

The playlist feeding an always-on YouTube live stream is controlled by the cloud host or encoder that sends its video feed. Learn what to change and how to verify it.

If you mean the videos playing inside a continuous YouTube live stream, change the source playlist in the cloud service or encoder that creates and sends the video feed—not in YouTube’s viewer-facing broadcast controls. The exact steps, and whether the change interrupts playback, depend on your host. After editing, confirm the host is still sending video and check the stream’s status and health in YouTube.

First, identify which playlist you mean

“Playlist” can mean either a YouTube playlist page that organizes saved videos or the playback queue feeding an always-on live stream. These are different tasks. This guide covers the source-media queue that determines what viewers see during the live broadcast.

YouTube’s API distinguishes the incoming feed from the event viewers watch: a stream identifies the audio-video content communicated to YouTube, while a broadcast represents an event that can be watched as it happens (YouTube Live Streaming API reference). If you only want to reorder videos on a YouTube playlist page, edit that playlist in YouTube; it will not, by itself, change the media queue feeding a separate live stream.

Change the source playlist in the cloud host

Find the cloud encoder, player, or streaming provider that assembles the video feed and sends it to YouTube. YouTube’s broadcast and stream resources do not provide a general editor for an unspecified third-party provider’s source playlist. The sequence is therefore normally controlled upstream, in the system producing the feed.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
  1. Open the host’s active stream or session. Make sure you are editing the channel and output currently connected to your YouTube live stream, not a saved playlist or an inactive draft.
  2. Find the attached playlist or media queue. Depending on the provider, it may be labelled playlist, schedule, queue, media, or playback. The label and location are provider-specific.
  3. Make the intended change. Reorder items, add or remove a video, or replace the queue only if the host supports editing it while the stream is running. Check the host’s own instructions first: the available evidence does not establish that every host supports in-place edits, or whether an edit restarts playback.
  4. Save or apply the edit if required. Some hosts may apply changes immediately; others may require a separate save, publish, or restart action. Follow the controls for your provider rather than assuming the change is live.
  5. Check the host’s output status. Verify that its encoder or pipeline is still producing and sending video to YouTube. If output has stopped, use the host’s documented recovery controls.

Verify the stream in YouTube

After changing the queue, check YouTube’s status and health information for the incoming stream, and compare it with the host’s output status. YouTube documents stream status and health fields, including configuration issues, in its LiveStreams API reference. A healthy-looking playlist in the host is not a substitute for confirming that the feed is reaching YouTube.

If the broadcast changes state or the feed stops, use the provider’s recovery procedure. YouTube’s API documents broadcast state transitions and transient states while a transition completes; it also advises checking that the bound stream is active before transitioning (LiveBroadcasts API reference). These lifecycle controls are separate from editing the media queue.

Playlist edits are not stream-setting changes

Changing which video plays next is not the same as changing delivery settings such as ingestion type, resolution, or frame rate. YouTube says some stream properties cannot be changed after a stream is created; for those documented properties, a new stream with the proper settings may be needed (LiveStreams update documentation). That restriction should not be treated as evidence that an ordinary playlist reorder requires a new broadcast.

Automatic broadcast start or stop behavior is another separate setting. YouTube documents options that relate broadcast lifecycle to whether video is being sent on the bound stream; those options do not explain how a third-party provider’s playlist is edited.

If you are choosing a cloud host

Google Cloud’s Live Stream API is one documented managed-cloud architecture: it transcodes live linear video and provides channels and pipeline operations (Live Stream API documentation; APIs and reference). That documentation does not establish that Google Cloud provides a particular playlist-edit control or that it is the service currently hosting your stream. Before choosing any host, check whether it supports in-place queue edits, whether edits interrupt or restart output, what health information it exposes, how it handles recovery, and how it connects to YouTube’s ingestion endpoint.
