Save the new details and confirm that they appear on the account. If Netflix is billed through Apple, a telecom company, cable provider, or another partner, that provider may control billing instead.
Netflix’s labels and available options can vary by country, account, device, and billing arrangement. These steps reflect Netflix’s guidance current to August 18, 2026.

Before you start
- Have the replacement card or payment details available.
- Make sure the billing address and, in the United States, ZIP code match the information held by your bank.
- Know whether Netflix bills you directly or through Apple, a mobile carrier, cable company, internet provider, or another package partner.
- If the old card is expired or compromised, add the replacement before trying to remove the old method. Netflix does not allow the only stored payment method to be removed.
To check who bills you, open your Netflix Account page and inspect Membership or Membership and Billing.
Change your Netflix payment method in a browser
- Sign in to Netflix at Netflix.com using the account owner’s profile credentials.
- Open the profile menu and select Account.
- Under payment details, select Manage payment info. Netflix may display similar wording such as Manage payment method.
- Select Update beside the current card or payment method, or choose Add Payment Method / Change payment method.
- Enter the requested card number, expiration date, security code, billing address, ZIP code, or other details.
- Save the change.
- Return to the payment page and confirm that the new method is listed.
When Netflix displays a payment error, Netflix.com/payment may take you directly to the relevant payment page, although the controls shown can differ by account.

Change it on a phone or tablet
The normal Netflix app does not provide payment-management controls. Open Netflix.com in Safari, Chrome, or another mobile browser, sign in, open Account, and follow Manage payment info.
The documented exception is the Netflix app downloaded from the Samsung Galaxy Store. Even there, the browser route is the most reliable option if the payment controls are missing.
Replace an expired or compromised card
If only the expiration date, billing address, or security code changed, use Update beside the existing method. If the card number changed or the card may have been compromised, use Add Payment Method or Change payment method to save the replacement.
For a compromised card, contact the card issuer first to lock or replace it. Then:

Add a second payment method and choose the preferred card
Netflix supports multiple payment methods in some countries, but this feature is not available everywhere and not every method can be used as a backup.
After adding another method:
- Open Account → Manage payment info.
- Select the three-dot menu beside the desired method.
- Choose Make Preferred.
The preferred method is normally the one Netflix attempts first. An eligible backup method may be charged if the preferred method is declined. If your account has a Netflix gift-card balance, Netflix says that balance is used before the preferred payment method when applicable.
Remove an old payment method
- Open Account → Manage payment info.
- Select the three-dot menu beside the old method.
- Choose Remove.
You must add another payment method before removing the sole stored method. Some third-party payment methods cannot be removed from Netflix directly. Partner-billed accounts may also require the provider or Netflix support, depending on the arrangement. Netflix’s guidance explains that support cannot ordinarily remove one specific method, although it may be able to remove all methods in certain circumstances.

Add the replacement before the current billing period ends if uninterrupted service matters. Removing a method prevents Netflix from charging it unless it is added again; it does not by itself change your billing date.
If Netflix bills you through Apple
Do not assume that editing a card on Netflix will switch an Apple-billed subscription. Check the Membership and Billing section of your Netflix Account page to see whether Apple is the billing provider.
Netflix billing through Apple is unavailable to most new or rejoining members, while some existing Apple-billed members in select countries may be asked to add another payment method. Depending on the account and country, you may need to:
- Follow Netflix’s instructions to add a new payment method.
- Cancel the Netflix subscription through Apple to prevent future Apple charges.
- Wait until the current billing period ends.
- Rejoin Netflix directly with the new payment method if Netflix instructs you to do so.

If Netflix is included with a phone, cable, or internet package
For a partner-billed account, the provider may control the card, billing date, and subscription status. Open Netflix Account and check Membership or Membership and Billing for the provider’s name.
- Sign in to the partner’s website or app.
- Update the payment details with that provider.
- If the package was canceled, paused, or disconnected, resolve the provider issue and relink Netflix when instructed.
- If you want to leave the package, follow the provider’s cancellation rules and rejoin Netflix directly with a new payment method if appropriate.
Third-party billing dates and payment handling can differ from Netflix’s normal billing process. Comcast/Xfinity accounts, for example, can direct users to Netflix’s payment page for some changes while still requiring the provider for account or billing issues. Netflix provides specific Comcast/Xfinity guidance and general third-party billing information.

A new card can be valid and still fail for reasons unrelated to the card number. Netflix lists insufficient funds, expired or invalid cards, bank declines, mismatched billing information, U.S. ZIP-code mismatches, blocked recurring or e-commerce payments, and international-transaction or security restrictions among possible causes.
Use this recovery checklist:
- Recheck the card number, expiration date, security code, billing address, and ZIP code.
- Confirm that sufficient available funds are present, including room for pending authorizations.
- Ask the bank whether recurring payments and e-commerce transactions are enabled.
- Ask whether the bank blocked an international or security-sensitive transaction.
- Save the corrected details or try another accepted payment method.
- If the error remains, select Back or refresh Netflix before trying again.
- Retry the payment on Netflix.com.
Netflix may automatically retry a failed payment during the billing cycle, but correcting the problem and retrying is usually more useful than waiting. See Netflix’s payment-error and account-hold guidance.

If your Netflix account is on hold
When Netflix says the account is on hold because of a problem with the last payment, open the payment-management page and select Update to correct the existing method or Change payment method to add another one. Refresh or go back after saving if the warning remains. If the charge still fails, contact the financial institution or use another accepted payment option.
Does changing the payment method cancel Netflix?
For a Netflix-billed account, replacing the payment method does not itself cancel the subscription. However, an invalid method can put the account on hold. Apple-billed subscriptions may require a separate cancellation through Apple, and canceling a phone, cable, or internet package can affect Netflix access unless another billing arrangement is established.
Does changing the payment method change the billing date?
Normally, changing payment details changes how Netflix attempts to collect the subscription fee—not the billing date. Netflix generally bills monthly on the date the membership began, but time zones, months without that calendar date, plan changes, price changes, and third-party billing can affect when a charge appears. A partner may use a different schedule.
If you cannot access the Netflix account
Use Netflix’s login-recovery instructions if you forgot the account email address or phone number. For some card-paid accounts, recovery can use the first name, last name, and payment-card details. Third-party billing arrangements may require different recovery steps or customer service.
